217.0. "NCAA Tourney Points/Player Contest" by TNPUBS::NAZZARO (UMass to the Final Four!) Mon Mar 13 1995 10:48

OK - here it is! The 5th annual pick-some-guys-and-follow-them
NCAA Basketball Tournament contest. With our reduced numbers at
Digital, I'm cross-posting this in the ::CELTICS file and here, but
I'll maintain one master list of entries.

    Here are the rules:

    1) You pick eight players: a starting five of two forwards, a center,
and two guards, plus three subs that can play any position.

    2) You can choose only two players from teams seeded #1, two players
from teams seeded #1, one player from teams seeded #3, and one player
from teams seded #4 as a maximum. That means you have to have at least
two players from teams seeded #5 and beyond. Of course, if you want to
pick all eight of your players from teams seeded lower than #4, that's
    perfectly OK.

    3) You can only pick one player per team!

    4) Respond either in here or send me mail at TNPUBS::NAZZARO; entries
will be accepted until Thursday at 12:00 noon EST.

    5) I will track how these players perform over the first weekend, and
list results in here, and give updates throughout the tourney.

    Good luck to everyone!

IN an answer to a question, yes, you can pick two guys from teams rated
#3 if you only pick one guy from teams rated #2. The maximum from the
    top four seeds is six.

No, I'm *NOT* volunteering (don't even have time to note these days).

I've been waiting to see if Ttom pokes his nose in but we could have
people post their picks on hbahba::pool_94 if nothing else.

We need someone to format it something like Tcm did in 14.127 or (even
easier just take one of the forms off the net. Then put the numbers
in for the five brackets and TTom and I could probably manage.

But I can't speak for him because he may be in Oshkosh or Schenectady
    for alls I know.

    Hey NAZZ,
I mis-typed one of the names in my entry.
What I meant to type was McDyess, not Stoudamire.
Simple mistake, both from 5 seeds starting with "A"...

It'd be a pretty dull contest with most of the best players not allowed. :^)
Most contestants won't have anyone still alive come Final Four time.

I know a couple of guys on Iowa - Settles and Kingsbury. Settles is
the small forward who works his butt off, and Kingsbury is the 3-point
shooter with unlimited range. They've got a couple of other really
good players, too, but as usual Dr. Tom has underachieved.

The on-line USA Today has team rosters for all Division I teams. I believe
team stats are there as well.

I'll try to compile a list; as teams are added to the eligible list, I'll try
to keep the list updated (no guarantees).
