1321.0. "wanting to do it all" by MROA::SULLIVAN_S () Thu Mar 13 1997 09:32

Well, it hasn't even been a month yet, and I'm already missing
    the weights.... :(

Part of me was thinking I could workout twice a week. I'm
just not sure where I should squeeze it in. If I do squeeze
it in, I'm afraid it will put me over the top on overtraining.
As it is, I'm sure I'm already pushing it.
If I was to add lifting back to my schedule, where do you think
would be the best place to fit it in?
Then again, maybe I shouldn't get back into it until I'm ready
to cut down on something else......
    Here's my schedule:

    Monday - 5:45a.m. teach aerobics
    Tues - 5:45a.m. teach, 7:30pm karate
    Wed - 5:45a.m. teach, 5:45pm teach
    Thurs - same as Tues
    Fri - same as Mon
    Sat & Sun - Nothing

When I'm teaching, I can do as little or as much of the workout as
I want (I mainly just keep my feet moving regardless of what I'm
    doing).

I think you are doing to much teachng. I don't know anyone who teaches
aerobis every day, most of the teachers I know teach it 3-4 times a week.
Your boby must rest, even if you don't do the whole routine, you still need a
break.

 Monday - 5:45a.m. teach aerobics
 Tues - 7:30pm karate
 Wed - 5:45am teach
 Thurs - 7:30 Karate
 Fri - 5:45a.m. teach aerobics
 Sat & Sun - Nothing

But if you relly wanted to do weight trainig as well, you could try this, but
i still think it would be much.

Monday - 5:45a.m. teach aerobics - after work weight training
 Tues - 5:15am weight training - 7:30pm karate
 Wed - 5:45am teach
 Thurs - 5:15am weight traning - 7:30 Karate
 Fri - 5:45a.m. teach aerobics
 Sat & Sun - Nothing

If you wanted a 3rd day of weight training, you could add it to a Saturday.

I keep saying your overtraining. Millenium is too much jarring top
that with Karate and your going to end up with joint problems, you know
    impact injuries.

Holy Frig Holy Shannon! Your schedule is mental! I too suggest ya
maybe cut back on that evening aerobics teaching thingy.

How are your lunchs for workin' out? If it's an hour, ya might be able
to squeez in a good pump in that time frame? Kinda tough to get
changed and showered and a work out in under an hour eh? And maybe one
work out on the weekend. Try to save at least one of those days for
    rest.

All I know is that you must be an animal! [^;=

Ok-Ok,,, Lets try this... :) How about if I was to take
out 1 or 2 teaching classes?

Maybe, take out Monday's class (I hate Monday's anyways), and-and-umm.....
Geeez, this is like asking the child to throw away some of his
toys... But I want to keep them all,,, head down, eyes looking
    up,,,, do I hafta?

I know it's good for me....

Question is, how many workouts should I put into one day?

1321.7Depends on what you are kciking and punchingHOTLNE::CORMIERThu Mar 13 1997 13:5712
    Shannon,
If your Kikk-boxxing is limited to instruction only (i.e. an
occassional jab or front kick on the bag) then you probably aren't
killing yourself with aerobics as much as some might think. You could
theoretically do one body part and opposer each day, in combination
with instruction-only kb and still not be overtraining.
Generally combining a heavy aero workout and a moderate to heavy weight
workout in the same day is a recipe for overtraining.
But to get the best benefit, you need to split them up so you can
really focus on the weight lifting without needing to conserve energy
    for the aero stuff.

    I agree Sarah

So 3 days of lifting and two days of aerobics and 2 days of rest.
Sounds like a good thing to me.

Brian who hates the aerobic part of his workout so is no unbiased
    person.

    PS

Shan, if I know you, you don't just watch the mill stuff you do as any
good leader does, you lead your class by example.

1321.9MROA::SULLIVAN_SThu Mar 13 1997 16:2114
Gasp! Two days of aerobics! One thing nice about the aerobics
is it "pays", unlike lifting. :)

Yes Sarah, I have had days that I only do an occassional punch
or kick. Those are normally the days that I'm teaching two
classes, or if I have karate that night. It mainly depends on how
I feel that morning. But like I said in an earlier note, I tend
to keep my feet moving (slow/fast running). If I'm not doing much
of the workout, I'll move around the room more and check on people.
When I'm doing the workout, I still keep an eye on everyone, and will
go over and help anyone that looks like they need some help.
For the most part, I enjoy doing the workout with everyone. That
way I get a better feel for how hard the workout is.

Don't know if this is above or below your level, but as I was stumbling
about the internet this weekend I found this article on overtraining,
    fwiw.

1321.11Still doing it all?HOTLNE::CORMIERTue May 27 1997 17:375
    Shannon,
How are you doing with 'doing it all'? Curious if you have altered your
schedule at all, or if you are feeling OK (not too tired, still enough
    energy, etc.)?

Still hanging in there... I dropped my Monday morning class and
I'm not teaching Wednesday nights anymore either.
My schedule now is teaching tues-fri in the morning, and karate
    two nights a week.
Dropping the two classes helped. I was starting to get run
down. I'm also not doing alot of the bag work out in the morning.
So I guess you could say I've slowed myself down.
I am about to add something new to my schedule though... I'm
going to be leasing a horse! :)
I talked to Doug at Millennium the other day and we were talking
about having the 5:45a.m. class 3x's a week instead of 5 days
a week. That would work out good. It doesn't take much to
get burnt out from alot of aerobic activity. I think teaching
3x's a week will be a refreshing change for me.
