245.27"You Do It"ASDG::ACITOBill Acito W1PAMon Mar 17 1997 23:2912
        Have passed "you do it" Electronics a few times on 95 (Needham?),
        but I've never been in it. Is this a surplus place, or can I go
        in and find packaged parts on the wall?

        I need some mica caps, and would rather not wait for mail order.

        Any other places in the MA Metrowest, southern NH region? What
        happened to Active?

245.28A phone call could save some timeSUBSYS::DONADTTue Mar 18 1997 07:478
    Active is still alive and well, but only in Woburn. I believe the other
    sites have been closed.

    Only been in You Do It once or twice. It is not a surplus store. They
    sell new parts. Not sure how extensive their inventory is, but worth a
    look, or phone call.

245.29A little more about YouDoIt25421::FALKOFTue Mar 18 1997 08:3415
    YDI sells lots of parts as new, and they are a wholesale distributor
    also. Many books about computers, TV, radio (also ARRL and TAB books).
    Upstairs, they sell consumer and commercial audio and video equipment.
    I have found their prices are never great, but their inventory is quite
    good. They also have many sizes of cable and cabinets.

    I had to special order a switch for a TV (about $4), for which I was
    placed on their commercial customers list. We 'special' customers
    received a mailing that gave us $20 off our next purchase of more than
    $50, so my next purchase came to $51 (true!) and I walked out spending
    only $31.

    Good store if you know what you want, but getting help can take a while
    (even for the pushy customers). It's worth taking a look before you
    think you'll need to go there.
245.30Making your own circuit boards?DEVMKO::ROSCHFri Apr 11 1997 13:079
    I'd like to learn on how to make my own circuit boards. I'm looking at
    an article which states that they can be made at home.
    Any pointers on where to get some info on how this is done? Apparently
    from what I've read you copy the board layout with a dry copier and
    somehow you can etch it onto a copper plate. True?

    Can you point me to any monograph, article, www-page description,
    supplier or whatever so I can try this at home and not ruin my
    plumbing?
