Currently I'm having two so called "braindead" DECconcentrator 900MX's and have no idea how to cure this. This braindead phenomena shows up when executing the selftest: it does not pass and the poweron led is lit - at the same time the network led gives short flashes of 1Hz. The unit does not respond to anything comming from the outside world whateversetup I try (DEChub900 or onehub MX ,via the etherent port (?) or the FDDI port in front of the unit). Upgrading the a 900MX that is OK with new FW is no problem this works fine. I tried the use of the special manufacturing switches aswel in a reworked DEChub 900 and in a onehub MX to get it up and running again but no luck. I also used the "normal" approach: put the unit in a HUB 900 and let it do a bootp but the unit does not send anything onto the ehternet nor the FDDI ring (I monitored that using the units HW address). This unit worked OK fine until we deliberately removed the power when it was upgrading it's SW in order to create such a braindead unit (this worked great! :*( ).And it realy is BRAINDEAD! Now I ran out of options to cure this problem so any suggestions would be welcome. Thanks - Cees

When the concentrator is in the hub, does the hub's LCD display show it as "program load needed" for that slot? It should. If so, you can just use hub-assisted load. Choose the "downline upgrade" choice on the hub's menu, inputting the concentrator's slot and filename, and the address of your favorite TFTP server. The concentrators do not do BOOTP. You cannot load it in a onehub-mx. It must be in a hub using hub-assisted load. The 1-Hz blinking you see is traffic between the MAM and the concentrator. -Mike | |||||

Mike, thanks for the info. I'm going to try this approach today. Yes the Hub's display shows the "program load need" line for that slot so that's OK. Regards - Cees |
