Yesterday I happened upon something in a CD based encyclopedia that got
me to thinking about the movie "2001". Last night at dinner, my son
and I get to talking about "2001". I get home last night, turn on the
 tube and it was on!

I watched it. And after this year's big celebration of his birth I was
surprised to discover that we've all been wrong. HAL was *not* born on
January 12, 1997, at least not in the film. He might have been, in the
book; I never could stomach Clarke's writing.) In the film he says, "I
became operational at the H-A-L plant in Urbana, Illinois, on the
    twelfth of January, nineteen ninety-two."

I was listening for that part as well, and was somewhat befuddled what with
 all the fol-de-rol recently.

I've seen that movie about a 100 times and I still don't understand it.

Supposedly the book has the date 1997, the movie 1992. Hardly the only
change (Saturn vs. Jupiter etc.)

If I remember correctly there was a note in either SOAPBOX or TRIVIA entered
on the 1992 date that mentioned that "today is HAL's birthday".

.150 appears to be no more than 80 columns wide ... I just checked it
out from VMS and it's all visible.

And, like Gerald said, if it's so uninteresting, does it matter if
you can read it or not?
