If I get bored, I can always stir up some excitement by making a
crazy call to another area. I start off with the phrase "Yeah, who's
the clown in charge over there" and usually end with "Oh yeah? This is
XXXX from the warehouse, and I'm coming down to straighten you out,
tough guy". Then just sit back and watch the fun. You all should try
that sometime - call a supervisor you don't really like and enjoy the
    fireworks.

                        ESCAPE (THE PINA COLADA SONG)
                            Rupert Holmes 1979

I was tired of my lady,
We've been together too long.
Like a worn-out recording,
Of a favorite song.
So while she lay there sleeping,
I read the paper in bed.
And in the personals column,
There was this letter I read:

"If you like Pina Coladas,
And getting caught in the rain.
If you're not into yoga,
If you have half-a-brain.
If you like making love at midnight,
In the dunes of the cape.
I'm the lady you've looked for,
Write to me, and escape."

I didn't think about my lady,
I know that sounds kind of mean.
But me and my old lady,
Have fallen into the same old dull routine.
So I wrote to the paper,
Took out a personal ad.
And though I'm nobody's poet,
I thought it wasn't half-bad.

"Yes, I like Pina Coladas,
And getting caught in the rain.
I'm not much into health food,
I am into champagne.
I've got to meet you by tomorrow noon,
And cut through all this red tape.
At a bar called O'Malley's,
Where we'll plan our escape."

So I waited with high hopes,
Then she walked in the place.
I knew her smile in an instant,
I knew the curve of her face.
It was my own lovely lady,
And she said, "Oh, it's you."
And we laughed for a moment,
And I said, "I never knew..

That you liked Pina Coladas,
And getting caught in the rain.
And the feel of the ocean,
And the taste of champagne.
If you like making love at midnight,
In the dunes of the cape.
You're the love that I've looked for,
Come with me, and escape."

"If you like Pina Coladas,
And getting caught in the rain.
If you're not into yoga,
If you have half-a-brain.
If you like making love at midnight,
In the dunes of the cape.
I'm the lady you've looked for,
Write to me, and escape."

Safety Dance [we can dance]
Men Without Hats

We can dance if we want to, we can leave your friends behind
Cause your friends don't dance and if they don't dance
Well they're no friends of mine
(I say) We can go where we want to,
There's a place they'll never find
And we can act like we come from out of this world
Leave the real one far behind,
and we can dance.

Ah we can go when we want to, the night is young and so am I
And we can dress real neat from our hats to our feet
and surprise 'em with the victory cry
(I say) We can act if want to, if we don't nobody will
And you can act real rude and totally removed
And I can act like an imbecile

I say, we can dance, we can dance everything's out control [we can dance]
We can dance, we can dance we're doing it wall to wall
We can dance, we can dance everybody look at your hands
We can dance, we can dance everybody's takin' the chance
Safety dance
Oh well the safety dance...

We can dance if we want to, we've got all your life and mine
As long as we abuse it, never gonna lose it
Everything'll work out right
I say, we can dance if we want to we can leave your friends behind
Cause your friends don't dance and if they don't dance
Well they're are no friends of mine

I say, we can dance, we can dance everything out control
We can dance, we can dance we're doing it wall to wall
We can dance, we can dance everybody look at your hands
We can dance, we can dance everybody's takin' the chance Oh Well the safety
dance...

    rendition of "Tainted Love"...
768.33ACISS2::LEECHWed Aug 07 1996 14:3014
And if that tune is stuck in your head, try this one...it'll drown out

It's a small world after all,
It's a small world after all,
It's a small world after all,
    It's a small, small world.

Of course, the downside is that it is nearly impossible to get out of
your head. In fact, it is likely to challenge your sanity after only
short while. And after long periods of time, well, it isn't pretty.

This note is called R U bored. Well I'm bored so I'm searching for
someone to talk(write) to. Yesterday I saw the American elections
on TV and in tehe Netherlands we don't understand the way it's going.
Is it true that you have to be rich or have a sponsor before you can
    join the elections?

else in the free world. Next question?

In the Netherlands isn't it like that; here you don't have any
commercials on TV. Every politic party get's TV-time for free. You
don't need any money to become prime minister; your campagne will
be paid by the party you stand for. They got the money from the
members. I think you are not allowed, they certainly don't like it
here, if you are sponsered by a private company. I think the whole
campagne will cost about 5 million(guilders, about 3 million dollar)
Oh, so far as I know it is like the Netherlands in the most European
    countries.

768.117JGO::DIEBELSThu Aug 15 1996 04:3136

I will try to help you all.

First our healthcare; I pay about 30 dollars a month for that,
only people who earn more then 40.000 a year have to pay more.
That 30 dollar includes every thing you can imagine, your psychiatrist,
    your dentist, you name it.

    We don't have 9 weeks; only teachers have. I have 37 days a year;
    about 7 weeks.

Most of our taxes are for social security, we have a law for
everything. When you are sick, unemployed, or your husband(or wife)
dies or when you are unable to work. Our dikes just costs a few
miliard a year, not such a big deal.

I will make a nice list with our drugs prices:

    weed: about 6$ a gram
    hash: about 8$ a gram
    cocaine: about 60$ a gram
    heroine: about 80$ a gram
    XTC: about 10$ a piece
    speed: about 20$
crack isn't a populair drug here; almost not for sale.

Yes, it is true. You can buy weed and hash around the corner but
all the other drugs are forbidden. You may use them but not sell
them. you are allowed to have 30 grams 'softdrugs'(weed & hash)
and 1.5 grams of 'harddrugs' (all the others). It isn't clear how
much XTC is allowed but don't worry, users are never prosecuted.

I think I've answered all your questions. See you around later.

    Karem.

How long have the majority of drugs been legal in your Country, and what is the
crime rate like there.
768.119I like our country !!JGO::DIEBELSThu Aug 15 1996 05:378
Drugs are (half)legal for about 20 years now. We have the lowest
addict rate in Europe(and I believe in the world) and fewest
drug kills again in Europe and I believe in the world. Our crime
rate too is one og the best in Europe. People who are addicted
will not be prosecuted but they get help and morfine to help
    them get off the drugs.

    Karem.
768.120I like our country !!JGO::DIEBELSThu Aug 15 1996 05:436
I've been thinking; in Europe the crime rate should be less
in Switzerland(Suisse), Austria, Norway, Finland and Sweden but
they have all more people who are addicted then our country (in %)

What is the drinking age there? and is there a probem with alcoholism?

768.122I like our country !!JGO::DIEBELSThu Aug 15 1996 05:587
The drinking age is 16 years but people get drunk when they
are 14 or 15 years old. You can buy(it isn't allowed) alcohol
from that age too. Ofcourse we have got alcoholism but less
then(again) most European countries. I think because of the
support we have(for free) for all kind of addictions. If you
need help there is always someone around who wants to help.

768.123FABSIX::P_OHALLORANGo mbeanfaigh Dia sibhThu Aug 15 1996 06:3610
In some European cultures there is no drinking age and these are the
cultures that have the least amount of alcoholism. e.g. Italy, alcohol
is introduced at a young age. Wine is a beverage that is included
during many meals and drinking is considered a custom. Although
abuse/intoxication is frowned upon. I believe another factor is because
it's introduced at such a young age and there are no "glorifications"
about drinking there is no need for youths to feel they have to drink
    to become socially accepted.

768.124SMURF::WALTERSThu Aug 15 1996 09:328

I read that the prison population in the Netherlands was only about
8000. Some people only go to jail on the weekends and are let out to
work their normal jobs during the week. Apparently they hate this even
more and the recidivism rate is lower than other countries.

What's the thing with euthanasia? it's dicscussed in a few papers, but
the law seems odd - doctors get charged and then automatically acquitted?
768.125I love our country !!JGO::DIEBELSThu Aug 15 1996 10:2118

I think you read it wrong. We've got much more people in jail.
It is possible you read something about a new project with prisoners
who are almost finished. They can have a job(if they are intrested)
and will be supported to avoid they are going to live the same live
again. Most of the time somebody does it wrong again because he(she)
has no(a poor) education, no job and the same(wrong) friends he had
before. Most people who gets a job and other friends will not make
    the same mistake again.

If the patient is incurable he can ask his doctor for euthanasia. The
docter have to ask for a second opinion by a collegue. When it is done
they get charged to see if they haven't break the rules. There are a
few doctors who have been prosecuted but they only get a heavy warning
they are not going to jail. Most of that cases are just routine and
they do it only to keep an eye on things.
