Agreed! I went outside and sat on the front lawn of ZKO3.
Put my coat up against a rock, leaned against it and read
for class tonite. Stopped at one point to lean my head back
and FINALLY feel that beautiful warm sun on my face.

It may have been nice at lunch (58 F and the sun even came out), but
spring is not yet here. It's too early to open up this topic, I say.
We're not supposed to get a hard freeze during Springtime. Highs in
Springtime are not supposed to be limited to the 30's; no, that is
WINTER IMO. In Springtime, you do not have wind-chills below 0 (low of
22, aggrivated by 35 MPH winds).

Therefore, logically, it is still WINTER, even though the calendar may
show something else. You won't see me back in this topic again until
SPRING actually arrives. It is my way of protesting such dreadful
weather during this so-called Spring thaw.

Please note that the scorecard in Ohio shows the following (in my
    area):

"Spring", day 1: 8" of snow, windy
day 2: more snow, colder, more wind
              day 3: cold, windy
day 4: not quite as cold, but still windy
              day 5: first Spring-like day...a tease
day 6: warm and wet in the AM, gale-force winds, hard freeze
                     overnight with windchill below 0
day 7: projected high of 38
day 8: projected high of 45

No, we won't see anything resembling spring until the weekend (other
than a nice, but very windy, day yesterday), and that is likely to
change- in fact, I'm willing to bet on it.

My conclusion: Even though the calendar may point to it being Spring,
it is not. We are being taunted; a cruel trick is being played on us by
old man winter and his near-sighted rodent side-kick. Spring won't
start for another week or so.
690.10BUSY::SLABOUNTYSlugmania ... catch it!!Mon Mar 25 1996 15:136

    	You're in denial, Steve.

    	nonetheless.

Spring arrived the Friday before St. Patrick's day. On that day, I put
on my spring jacket and walked down Mass Ave from Arlington Heights
to Berkely, then over to the Common. (Armed with a semi-automatic
    umbrella.)

It doesn't matter if it gets below freezing again. My winter coat is
    away.

Afternoon light, unexpected flowers, (this is the third spring in our
old house, and we still are surprised at where people planted in years
gone by), after dinner walks to the center and back, near bursting buds
    on trees.

Other than summer, fall and winter, this is my favorite season.

Spring?!? There's a blizzard going on outside right now. I saw
three accidents on my way to work. It's less than twenty degrees out,
and the snow is starting to freeze on the roads. Lord help me when I
have to drive home at midnight, since I live right across the street from
Pike's Peak. I gain more than fifteen hundred feet in elevation in less
than four miles. Highway 24 is the highway of death in a blizzard,

It has rained for the last two day's and it was trying to snow when I
was walking home to-night, according to the forcast we are going to get
more, cool, wet days, at least until the week-end.
The only way I have been able to look at the crocus and violet flowers
in the back yard, is through field glasses.

The golf course down the road have a sign up saying they will open this
week, I do hope they move the family of ducks who are swimming in the sand
trap by the sixth hole first.

Since it is now Spring, I decided to leave my upstairs windows open last
night to air out the house (and it was warm upstairs). Turns out that this
was not such a wonderful idea...it was a might nippy when I woke up at
5 this morning (I HATE waking up before the alarm goes off), especially
since I had a fan running in my room.

Luckily, I did not leave them wide open, but only cracked (though there
was a rather brisk wind last night, so plenty of air was circulating).

I am still anxiously awaiting true Springdom to arrive. It is very shy
this year. Tonight, the low is going to dip down even cooler than it
did last night- down near FREEZING. ICK! Enough's enough already.

It has been a really weird year for weather.

> Today is the first day of summer.

    Groan.  I hate summer.  Hot; sticky; heavy hard-to-breathe air;
oppressive; horrendous creatures with six, eight, or more legs
running or flying around, some with painful stingers; creatures
emerging from the woods digging holes in my yard for me to step
    in and twist my ankle; bike riders and joggers for me to dodge;
grass to mow, a pointless activity if there ever was one (at
least snow shoveling has a practical purpose); sunburns...

I'll think of more later, no doubt. Hey, I had to listen to all
of you gripe about last winter for the eight or nine months that
    it lasted, so fair's fair.

That's soda, not sodas, and if you put scotch in soda it is quite
appropriate for consumption at that hour.

What, about summer? Nope, can't wait for it to be over.

What, in general? Sure, I like most things, actually, but it's
more fun to talk about what we don't like, especially in here.
Here are some things that I especially like: (Maestro, music,

    Kids
    Most people
    Baseball
    Soccer
    Beatles
    Jazz
    Guitars
    Jazz with Guitars
Old TV shows (esp. sci-fi, sitcoms, and game shows)
Most things about the 50's and 60's
    Computer stuff, sometimes
    Exercising (har :-))
    Spicy food
Low humor and other seedy underbelly-of-life stuff
Our new minivan which I hardly ever get to drive

Summertime. I love the smell of summertime. Everything's growing.
Windows are open- fresh air. It's time for the beach- beach volleyball,
brewskis, the various eye-watering sights. Fishing. Rollerblading.
Gardening. Prime grilling time. Warmth. Sun. Long days with plenty of
daylight. People are actually outside as opposed to being holed up in
    their houses. Basketball. Frisbee.

For once we had a decent spring. Though, in order to delay the hot and
humid weather that normally approaches nary a millisecond after winter
is over, we had to put up with gargantuan rainfalls.

Of course, all this water has added a bit of ambiance to the upcoming
summer...in the way of mosquitos and humidity. Oh, these things are a
normal part of summer in these parts, but they are likely to be
displayed in epic proportions for most the summer. The other day, it
was a mere 85 F, yet I managed to break into a hideous sweat in just a
few seconds. Very pleasant, that. Nothing like a humidity in excess
of 90% in the boiling sun.

In any case, since I whined so much about our 7 month long winter, you
will not hear a peep of whining (at least not obvious whining 8^) )
about the upcoming hot and humidness of summer (actually, it started a
    few days ago).

Tomorrow we hit the 90's for the second time this week, which will be
accompanied by a high moisture content in the air. O joy. But I can
honestly say that after such a long and nasty winter, it is a large
    improvement.

At least we had a record long spring season here. We had about 3 weeks
of spring-like weather (though it was raining 95% of the time), of
temperatures in the 70's in the day and upper 50's at night. We are
not likely to see a span of nice temperatures this long for another 100
    years or so.
