| The other day I was on my way home and I saw a car that was plastered
with bumper stickers.
What I read left me very confused. They had several stickers saying
things like "Racism Sucks", "Amnesty International", "Try Peace", "Save
The Whales" and others of that bent. Then next to all of these the had
one that said "My kid beat up your honor student"
Strange the mixed messages you can get from some people

| Yes, I like real food. In fact, I LOVE food in general. But it's got
to be really greasy and fattening. ;)
My ex-boyfriend had a nickname for my eating habits which is not
appropriate for me to repeat in this forum. 8) Hollow legs, bottomless
pit, things of that nature are what I'm used to...
I do like rabbit food on occasion as long as it's followed up with a
big fat juicy steak (well done).

At its very best, it is OK. Frequently it is not at its

Their chowder recipe is sub-par, they're not very creative,
and they're totally lost when it comes to Cajun grill.
I've had every bit as good a seafood meal in innumerable

was also the name of a writ which lay for the heir of age, to obtain
the possession of seisin of his lands at the king's hands. F. N. B.

I am sick and tired of people thinking big bad liberals are anti child,

say another party has the lock on that. Even the catholic Bishops
believe that the "reforms" directed at poor families is going to
increase the abortion rate in this country. while some people seem to
think this is a good thing, I believe forcing people to abort or starve
one of more children to be disgusting.
Remember, more than half of the kids in my kid's school are on reduced
or free lunches and breakfasts and for good reason. The wage base in
this town for semi-skilled workers sux rox on a good day. Many of
these families are two parent, two earner but still can't make ends

I'm sick and tired of the libs making the repubs out to be Atilla the

choices. It has to be done or the country's going to go bankrupt. Too
bad people can't see the forest through the trees. The government
can't solve our problems and people should stop looking towards it to
save them from themselves. It's easy to make this seem mean spirited,
but then again, you don't know what my family or other conservatives do
to help the poor and the less fortunate, so to say we don't care is
plain old ignorance. Take a look at France and what is going on over
there. That is what is in store for us if we don't get our affairs in
order.

| >I am sick and tired of people thinking big bad liberals are anti child,

They aren't anti-child. They are anti-responsibility. Don't want to
fornicate responsibily? Have an abortion. Don't want to have only the
children you can support? Get the government to pay for your kids.
They don't believe that people should be required to behave
responsibly. They do, however, believe that people who choose to behave
responsibly should be punished by being forced to pay for those who
elect not to. How much easier would it be for the poor to claw their
way out of poverty (like my family did) if we didn't have the burden of
paying for those who don't want to be responsible?
>Even the catholic Bishops
>believe that the "reforms" directed at poor families is going to
>increase the abortion rate in this country.
Ah, yes, the much hated and vilified Catholic bishops. Yup, when they
support increased spending for social programs, they're to be listened
to. When they oppose abortion rights, why they're to be reviled.
Nothing like having it both ways, eh, Meg? Must be the liberal in you.
Force of habit, you know.
>I believe forcing people to abort or starve one of more children to
>be disgusting.
I believe forcing people to elect not to have more kids because they
are being forced to pay for people who won't support their own kids is
far more disgusting. YMOV.
>The wage base in
>this town for semi-skilled workers sux rox on a good day.
Too bad you are unable to make the connection that this is related to
government overspending, particularly on the biggest parts of the
government pie- social services. You refuse to make the connection
because it would cause you to admit that the irresponsibility
encouraged by the current system is the root of the problem.

Indeed. The choices they're making are so tough because they have to
tread a careful line between actually doing something substantive and
pissing off voters who might re-elect them. The Congress of today is
like every other Congress since this nation was founded -- the object
of every single Congresscritter is to get re-elected, and who gives a

Well, we certainly have the democrats and the current administration
opposing substantive change at every single turn, don't we? Even
substantive change promised by candidate Clinton and repeated by
President Clinton as late as this past summer. Suddenly, faced with the
prospect of delivering (and hence allowing republicans to make good on
their promises, possibly even leading to republican reelections) the
politics of obstruction suddenly have taken on a new urgency.
Not that the republicans are 100% right about everything (nor _should_
this need to be said.) But currently the two parties are at the 90%-10%
level. Currently the republicans are 90% right and 10% wrong, and the
democrats are 90% wrong and 10% right. One thing the republicans ought
to be doing is taking money from "welfare" and other entitlements and
moving it to educational assistance, in effect, starting a new series
of programs called "empowerments." That, along with balancing the
budget and paying down the debt, would be the right thing to do. And
stop with such silliness as censoring the internet. Let parents be
responsible for monitoring their kids.

I hate to have to point this out again, but most legislators, despite
their primary desire to be re-elected, actually work to create laws
that they believe are right. Hence, the Right thinks we're at the
90-10 level with the Right being right, and the LEft thinks we're at
the 90-10 level with the Left being right. But only the Right has
vowed not to compromise. DO SOMETHING, EVEN IF IT'S WRONG. Standing
on their little self-righteous pedestals isn't doing ANYONE any good.

this 90-10 demonizing, in which NOTHING gets done. Grow up, won't you?

| >Hence, the Right thinks we're at the
>90-10 level with the Right being right, and the LEft thinks we're at
>the 90-10 level with the Left being right.
The difference is the left has failed over the last 40 years to
deliver improvements to society. Indeed, by many measures, society has
declined as a direct or secondary result of the imposition of liberal
policies. Tried and failed is still failed. Taking ipecac for a
headache doesn't work. It's in the "tried and failed" pile. Liberals
are now clinging to the "well, maybe 50% ipecac and 50% ibuprofin is a
good compromise.' Compromise? Why cling so sullenly to the tried and
failed just because it was your side's idea? Talk about being stupidly
stubborn.
>But only the Right has vowed not to compromise.
That's inaccurate, but it makes for a handy mantra. They said they
were not going to compromise their ideals, but they have always been
open to honest negotiation. Of course, it's the honest part that's so
offputting to Janus Clinton. He's the one who's dug his heels into the
ground and refused to compromise, even after promising to negotiate
given certain conditions he claimed were what he wanted all along.
>DO SOMETHING, EVEN IF IT'S WRONG.
Some things may prove to be wrong over the long term, some over the
short term. Some may prove to be right. The democrats are behaving in a
conservative way by opposing change even where policies are clearly and
plainly broken. The republicans deserve a chance to reverse some of the
damage. Will they make mistakes? Undoubtedly. But one thing is certain.
The democrats HAVE made mistakes, and it's WAY PAST TIME to address
these issues. And leaving half the crap in your chicken sandwich in the
name of compromise is idiocy, plain and simple. It's time for HONEST
debate of the issues as policy is formulated, not half solutions so the
democrats can claim compromise and thus be reelected. Compromise is
neither always good nor always bad. It is neither always necessary nor
always to be avoided. Compromise should occur where it makes sense to
occur, and should not occur where it makes no sense. You seem to
support compromise without regard to merit, a most perplexing position
for you to take.
>In your never-humble opinion.
Oh, like you should talk! Pot to kettle: "you're awful black!!!!" This
kettle is giggling at the accusation, Dick. Really. Read what you write
on occasion. Not to mention the fact that never-humble is wrong. Rarely
humble? Yeah, I'll concede that. But never-humble is simply wrong. My
notes here and elsewhere prove that.
>Grow up, won't you?

As for the Right's being open to "compromise" on honest negotiation,
that's YOUR handy mantra. The current government shutdown is proof
that it's a lie - whether you believe it or not, the Dims think they
are being honest. They are negotiating in good faith, the principle of
negitiation being give and take, and the Repubs are saying "eff you,

ballsy move, even if it is borne solely out of a desire for reelection.

Perhaps you would explain Mr. McCurry's comment yesterday that now that
the polls have started to turn against Clinton he is more willing to
actually work on this budget. The entire time that the polls showed
him making political hay out of this budget deal, he remained
uncompromising, despite his comments to the the contrary.
Remember, this is the same liar who said he would provide a 7 year
balanced budget in order to get the government open. Now he has done
no such thing, and you have the unmitiagted gall to take the
Republicans to task!!!! Also, this is the same guy who porposed larger
cuts in Medicxxx and now titles the Republican smaller cuts as
terrible.
Stop complaining about the lack of compromise on the part of
Republicans when your guy can't even get the simplest of statements

Slick should sign what the Congress, which was elected by more than 43%
of the citizenry, has presented to him. It's what we want. That's why
they're there.
It's not just the handful of conservatives and Republicans in the 'box

Er, um, my "43%" reference was to the segment of the voters that put Slick
on PA Ave, Meg - had nothing to do with the COA. But, thanks for pointing
out that the 43% of the voters actually was 17% of the _eligible_ voters
in the country.

Actually, Dick, I think it's what the majority of the country, which elected
the current congress, wants. A larger "some" than you'd care to admit. I'd
be happy to see figures proving otherwise, but I doubt that they exist.

Well, Jack, I hate to be the one to remind you that we live in a
republic, not a democracy. Our system of government was designed
specifically to prevent mob rule, which is what we'd get if we had a
simple democracy. Frankly, I'm rather glad the founders had the
foresight to forestall your sort of tyranny.

Are you now going to try and convince us that that idiot from Little Rock

The majority of the country wants what the 104th has proposed. Period.
And the country is entitled to it. And Slick, sooner or later, provided
that the Congress stands its ground, is going to have to succomb to that
wish - republic/democracy/tyranny be damned.

nothing to do with the numbers which elected this congress, but referred to
Slick's constituency. I am quite confident that the numbers which elected
the current congress, in total, are far higher than 43%. While I have no
idea what the numbers actually are, when all states' appointments/elections
are taken into account regarding congressional votes, that's not the issue
under discussion.

is not, is when the "mob" wants to push for something that is not
constitutional.
Of course, this is quite irrelevant today. What is and what isn't

climate and who loads SCOTUS in their favor.

This notesfile ain't for the faint of heart. It's somewhat of a
freeforall. That said, if you can thicken your skin a few layers you
will learn some things and get some good information. You will also
find that the people of this file are some of the nicest folks around
who would go out of their way to do something for others. You will
also see the camaraderie that exists as well.

If you take anything that is directed at you in this file personally,
you are overreacting. Note, "overreacting" is one word, not two.
If you decide to invest in an elephant's hide or, failing that, a good
set of full body armor, you could learn to like it here. And, as
Wannamonkey said, there is a cameraderie in this file that I have found
in very few other places. People here are real people, they are mostly
highly intelligent (except for Wannamonkey), and most of them would go
far out of their way to help a fellow boxer.

That fantasy , if real, is way off base. Conservatives of my

There are too many people who are classified under the homophobia
umbrella that really aren't. They are just ignorant. And being ignorant is not
a put down, it just means they do not know about, or the truth about gays and
lesbians.
Someone could say that all gays get together wearing dresses for one
massive orgy, and not be homophobic. The remark is a homophobic type remark,
but it doesn't mean they are homophobic.
To *me*, homophobia is someone who fears the b/g/l/t community, and
because of that, they could lash out at, or lie about gays. Some of these
people are gay themselves. I was one of them. So afraid of becoming one, I
would do whatever I could to put them in their place. Well, where I thought
their place was. The typical lower than human place. I was VERY homophobic.
When I did finally accept who I was, I still had the same fears. So
even though I was gay, I was still homophobic. It came down to realizing that
being effeminate is not something that is bad, having a lisp does not make
someone a lesser human being, gay men don't sleep with anything that moves,
lesbians aren't going to beat me up, things like that. And as these things were
going on, it ate away at the homophobia. Mainly because I went out and found
out what the truth was.
So now you have a better understanding of why I talk about the b/g/l/t
community. I don't want others to end up like me.

Transexuals make up part of it, but not all. Transvestites is another
piece of the pie.
In any of the T groups, you will have some who are b/g/l's, and some
who are not. A crossdresser, transsexual, or transvestite could be straight, or
not. It really depends on the person.
