405.0. "Bob needs a new pname" by NOTIME::SACKS (Gerald Sacks ZKO2-3/N30 DTN:381-2085) Wed May 03 1995 15:58

Bob Palmer has entered a note into HUMANE::DIGITAL. Unfortunately, his
personal name is the unimaginative "BOB PALMER" (all caps). Let's help
him come up with a snappier personal name.

Actually, this DEC propensity for using the personal name field for all
sorts of snappy sayings causes havoc on the Internet, where many mail
and news readers list the personal name rather than the Email address
in Directory listings, headings, and other places.

    By default, you don't have any PN, so he must have set it.

    Of course, fancy slogans are impossible for a CEO, using the name is
    just o.k. - so the question is, why didn't he use "Bob Palmer" but
    "BOB PALMER instead.

    I think it's a tribute to the old-time DECcies, techies and SW staff,
    to remember the times when everything was written in all capitals
    (like DEC, e.g.). See - I'm not a sharp dressed, sales-oriented
    suit-wearer, I am a techie-freak at heart.

    well either way, he needs a new p_name. I gave him two suggestions, but
    I don't think he will use either one. Oh well, maybe we could sponsor
    a contest, and best p_name wins. For a prize you get a personal memo
    from Bob, thanking you for your efforts.
