| Did'nt have much time for them on record but live they were great
fun. I remember seeing them at the Reading Rock Festival in '82.
Dee Snider introduced "Shoot em down"(?) with the help of a sub
machine gun, dedicating the song to the British pilots who'd
fought in the Falklands War.
They also did a blinding version of "It's only Rock n Roll" with
Pete Way and Fast Eddie as guests ( remember them?). Dee Snider was a
brilliant frontman, front being the operative word as he challenged
all the idiot bottle-throwers to meet him at the side of the stage
afterwards. Needless to say, no-one turned up. I mean, would you
argue with that guy?

Yeah, they are pretty good live. I saw them open up for DIO at
the Boston Garden and Dee got extremely p*ssed about someone through
something at him. Needless to say he jumped out in the audience
climbing over people 'till he reached this guy about 8 rows back.
A little circle formed and he beat the sh*t out of the guy! The
band kept playing until he got back onstage and then he told them
to stop, he bitched the guy out, then they proceeded like nothing
happened. I was amazed. This guy was hurtin'! Dee isn't exactly
a small guy.

| Did I ever tell you my Twisted Sister story????
I played a gig with them at a place called Zaffy's in Piscataway, NJ
(remember Joe Piscapo's "NJ guy" character from Sat Night Live - he
was from Piscataway).
At the time, I remember us thinking this was BY FAR the very worst
band we EVER EVER saw in the clubs, thus (jokingly) they'll be big
some day. They were real proud of this tune (I remember it like
it was yesterday) called "Chinatown Rock" (did they ever record it?)
which was based on the cliche "chinese riff" based on fourths:
A A A A G - G - E - E - G
E E E E D D B B E
In fact, we were so unimpressed that if we saw another band we though
sucked we'd always say "Well, they ain't no Twisted Sister".
Anyway, I moved out of Joizey and basically never even thought of them
again.
Then one day, about 8 years ago, I was looking thru my T-shirts and
found a "Twisted Sister" shirt. Now, I *KNEW* that I didn't buy this
and that it wasn't mine, but I couldn't imagine how the shirt got
there. I thought I was only one of about 6 people, including the
band, that would likely even remember them.
Turns out they had just started to hit it big, and one of the girls
living in the house with us had this brother that was into them and
it was his shirt that ended up in closet.
Actually, I think they got a LOT better, and I will never EVER forget
Dee Snider's testimony in the "Record Labelling Hearings" that congress
held a few years ago. I thought he was going to come across as a drug
crazed asshole and an example of the best reason why kids shouldn't
be exposed, and instead he came across as a very intelligent articulate
guy who hit the nail on the head.
