    I saw Geraldo's Special last night and I swear I was waiting for
    last nights Show,to be todays HM topic.
    The Show "SATANISM" the problem...Mysterious Deaths,Suicides,Torture
    all evidence which leads to the ocult.
    Blame...Yes they did carry a little much on Heavy_metal,But as you
    saw..King Dimond,he did admit "He was a satanist",but he said he
    does not preach his belief on stage,
    Thats fine I think as Geraldo put it "This show is to make you aware
    of what is going on with this belief and how this is or could be
    related in child disapearnce,and how many questions could be answered,
      I personally found the show to be quite interesting,but still
    I had questions on the music part...........
    Bands to look out for ..."from Geraldo"
    (1)  Megadeth, (2) Slayer (3) King Dimond (4) Iron Maiden etc.
       Ozzy Osbourne was on the show and he even said "Geraldo I
    dont take years to think of how devilish my songs are going to be,
    I sing what I feel, Although yes,I have written songs about Satan
    in the past, Its not my style" I SO MANY WORDS,
         *BUT YES TO ANSWER THE QUESTION....They should not have put
    the music down as much as they did..."Words from on of the youngest
    Murderers on Death row.."what made you do it".."Satan"....The Alcohol,
    & Music told me,.But the drugs didnt help..............

    	Yea..what's the story on that suicide case vs. Ozzy.  They 
    claim that the kid comitted suicide cause of Ozzy's tune "Suicide
    Solution"...anyone with .0002 of a brain can see that it's a warning
    about the dangers of Alcholism...and not promoting suicide.

    I know what you mean.. I was getting the wierdest looks this morning
    by other DEC employes..and didn't know why till I turned on the
    radio.  Anyone that knows what I look like can understand why. 
    Long hair in 3 piece suit area looks wierd enough but thanks to
    Geraldo.. I'll never get hired!  I already had an arguement with
    my boss and a forecaster over that show and the "slop" I listen

    There are kids that should be mature, but are actually moronic

    There are people that take anything that's said about a subject
    they're interested in, and take from it what they want to hear,
    (thus believing that all HM is bad, no matter how many
    disclaimers Geraldo may have said)

    	Yeah, I know exactly what ya'  mean !  There was this group of
    people  talking  about the  show  last night, and `how HEAVY METAL
    influences the young'.  Well....I  got a little upset and told `em
    that I am a METALhead, and I don't  think  that  I'm going to kill
    myself or others because of METAL.  I told them  that  it's all in
    the way they perceive the music.  It's a piece  of  art created by 
    a musician and not a directive from that  artist  for  those to go
    out and kill or maime.  If someone is  LOOKING  for  evil, they're
    bound to find it in anything they see, hear or listen to.  There's
    a church up here in South Burlington, VT that says Shakespeare was
    a satanic writer.  BULLka-ka !
    
    	Well...after listening to the discussion  a  little  longer, I
    got up from the table and said, `You people know me  and  what I'm
    like.  If my being a METALhead changes your opinions, then  so  be
    it, but that would be a damn low thing to  do.  Think  before  you
    condemn anyone.'  I didn't hear what  was  said  after that, cause
    I left.  I'm sure it was juicy  though. :^)  Hey,  at  least  they
    weren't talking about someone else. heh heh heh !

    Has anybody heard about the incident involving Judas Priest music?
    Apparently a couple of kids who were drinking and getting stoned
    and listening to Priests' "Stained Class" decided to go to a 
    cemetary with a shotgun and kill themselves. One kid did and the
    other only managed to blow half his face off.  When later questioned
    he said that the music hypnotized them into thinking death was the
    answer to life. So now the parents are suing JP, and say they have
    evidence that there were subliminal messages on the album.
    
    When is this S*^t gonna stop?  When are parents gonna realize that
    their kids are screwed up to begin with, or that maybe even its
    their fault the kids are like that?  This is just an easy way to
    pass the blame on to someone else for their shortcomings.
    
    I've had people coming up to me today telling me about the show
    too.  If anybody is being brainwashed by heavy metal, it's
    the people who listen to some asshole like Tipper Gore or Geraldo,
    telling them that their kids are gonna kill themselves or someone
    else because of the music they listen to. RUBBISH!
    It's a good thing I wasn't in the studio, because I would have killed
    him, and blamed it on his mindless TV show.  Yeah that's it. I'll
    say his show somehow made me lose my mind and turned me into a 
    homicidal maniac. That's the ticket.

    When are people going to realize that drugs warp your sense of judgment
    and your perception of things and start placing the blame for these
    things on the real source instead of some music that these people
    happened to be listening to at the time. 
    
    In every one of these 'suicide because of heavy metal' stories I've
    heard, the people which killed themselves were heavily involved with
    drugs.  So what's the pattern?  Was it due to mind altering substances
    or the music they were listening to?  Why don't these people WAKE UP

    I resonse to the 295.0--  WAAF play hard rock and Heavy Metal. 
    I suggest you to listen to the other side of life on the weekends.
    They play the "Stuff" you like at night.  The station is hard rock
    station.  Some of the DJ override company policy.  About 2am (Wed.)
    in the morning, the play Iron Maiden.  You sterio-type the whole
    station because of Drew and Karen.  You can tell they don't hate
    nor love it.  Their bosses are in early.  You will notice they can't
    get away with swearing nor HM.  The night time work force swears
    every chance they get and DO play HM because their boss is sound
    asleep.......
    
    I've been around sice the WAAF giraffe.  They're the only station
    that plays REAL music.  I WILL stand up for them.....

    Most people can't begin to understand most of these "Satanic" deaths
    cause how can we/they start to understand what was/is going through
    their minds (at least what's left of them).  Sure HM (not the monkey)
    has had been given a bad name due to a those instances, but
    alot of the blame has to go to the parents for not showing the child
    what is right or wrong, and if they did then the child wasn't to
    tightly wound and probably could of been given some profesional
    help.  We as sane rational people know we enjoy the music and know
    we are not going to go out and chop up babies into a million bits
    and drink their blood.   With any type of music there are messages
    in the songs and it should be taken as just that a message and not
    a commandment.
    
    There is going to be a show about the son of sam (or something like
    that) on Unsolved Mysteries (Next Wednesday 8:00 NBC).

    The way I see it, most HM bands that are into the Satanic sh*t are
    more like actors.  The crowd for some reason wants it - they give
    it to 'em.  I don't see anybody getting thier panties in a dark
    spot over Friday the billionth and all that stuff, that's fake it's
    just a movie right ?  But put it on vinyl and it's a message straight
    from 'ol Lucifer himself.
    
    The teaching should start at home, by knowledgeable, open-minded
    parents.  If you we're going to teach your child anything else you

    I haven't seen the Geraldo special, although the next note I will
    look at will be the next one to see if anybody has it on tape. 
    But from what I've heard in this note, I know just what it is he
    said and implied.  Haven't we heard this a million times already?
    When will somebody wake up and show America the real picture of
    whats happening in todays society?  Maybe Morton Downey Jr. will
    come out and show everyone that Heavy Metal isn't really like that.
    He seems to be someone who would defend it, rather than put it down
    (then again, I could be wrong.  The man has balls enough to do it,
    though, no one else in the media does.)
    
    In defense of Ozzy, although, like I said, I haven't seen the special
    yet, remember one thing.  Ozzy could have said alot more in defense
    of H_M, but it was Geraldo who decided what would go on the air,
    and if Ozzy said something like "Geraldo, I think you s*ck cow pud,
    leave our music alone, it's not the reason drugged senseless kids
    are killing themselves." it wouldn't have ever reached the airwaves.
    
    I understand what it is that is making people believe that Heavy
    Metal is killing thier kids.  Plain and simple, it is what they
    want to believe.  They don't want to think that their kids killed
    themselves because they were stoned mindless or extremely depressed
    or both.  If that were true, they might be partially responsible
    for their kid's death, which is not only even more painful, but
    not necessarily fair, either.  The rest of America hears this sh*t
    about our music, and takes a reverend Jerry Falwell over it, after
    all, if Geraldo & Jerry say thats what it was, thats what it must
    be, right?
    
    There is no one to defend our cause.
    
    Besides the artists who stand up for themselves (and even when they
    do, they don't own TV networks for air time).  The only one I know
    of who will stand up for us and who has the intellect to be effective
    behind his words is Frank Zappa, who I have second thoughts about
    sometimes myself.  
    
    Saturday Night Live once ran a skit which ridiculed Geraldo-types.
    It was a riot.  It had the guy who always dresses up in the devil
    outfit stnding behind Beetoven and telling him what to write.
    
    "Yeah, Ludwig, how about, err, DUMM DUMM DUMM DUMMMMMMM....
    HA!  Yeah, I like that, yeah, heh heh...  That should get my point
    across, heh heh!!!"  
    
    Then later on he wanted more satanic lyrics, so he says to the crowd,
    
    "How about this, umm, reeal devilish, err, WE ARE THE WORLD, YEAH!!
    Thats it!  HA heh heh HA HA heh heh heh heh!!!"
    
    My friend Dean was really heavy into H_M.  Unfortunately for him,
    he was also heavy into foriegn substances, because thats what one
    way or another, ended his life.  He didn't die by his own hand,
    but still, if anyone said that his music had anything to do with
    it, I would've dropped the pri** right then without hesitation.
    
    All I can say is just stick to your guns in trying times, and don't
    let the blue haired ladies get to you.  It is not fair how the media
    is portraying this subject.  F*** 'em.  I don't think that we can
    change the way that they think, but we can make a strong case to
    show that we are not what they concieve us to be.  If we have long
    hair and wear leather and do things that they wouldn't dream of
    doing, well, thats our business, and none of theirs.  Just don't
    stereotype us as something we are not because of it.
    
    Its time they started taking responsibility for some of the things
    that happen in todays world rather that blame them on somebody

    	Does it reall matter how it started..??  The whole point is that
    it's ridiculous.  The sub-messages on the tele or in the theatre
    were proved to be effective.  One way of finding them was to look
    at the film.  Every 10th (??) frame was cut out and an advertisment
    was put in.  How would they find the messages on the analog tape??
    And why would a band...whose livelyhood was it's fans want to kill
    them??  It's all ludicrous...if you ask me.  And I firmly believe
    that no one in their right mind would kill them selves after listining
    to an album for a certain period of time.  I think that the two
    that did had much bigger probs that the parents were either to stupid
    to see or choose to ignore it, and call it a teenaged phase.

    my personal feeling is that hm music does contain some satanist
    lyrics. however not all of it does. i have listened to some of the
    lyrics and still seem to  be o.k. i also think that most people are
    frustrated over not being able to control the drug problems that
    the kids may have. so when the kids commit suicide the first thing
    the parents do is deny that their child would do drugs and instead
    blame the music.  music  is easier to censor, easier to point
    a finger at someone, and a scapegoat for the parents.

    I saw the replay on TV.  It was great watching Geraldo he hit.
    
    This Black guy jumped up and started on the Skin Head (I would have
    done the same thing to that racist bastard) and then an all out

    	Just got back from lunch...and just finished watching the Geraldo
    show....interesting program...(had my brother tape it for me) 
    I can't believe that to this day there are some people that are still 
    so ignorant. It was incredible..but I don't think he got anything 
    accomplished
    
    	And now for the highlights....you should have seen Geraldo fight...
    holy sh*t.. I thought he might have played pro hockey.  The dude
    that hit him with the chair was sorry I'll bet.  He threw that chair
    belted Gerry with it then went across the back fo the stage....Gerry
    saw him jumped on him...got him in a front face lock and started
    hammering away... I was impressed.  Geraldo didn't cower or run
    for the body guards like most talkshow hosts would have done...(ex
    Phil Donahue...or...Joe Franklin...or Johnny Carson..)  The 5 min
    fight made the show worth watching...even though the probs that
    the show was trying to straighten out were only complicated more.

    	   Look, people.  Geraldo doesn't know squat about Satanism
    	or Heavy Metal.  I've been reading up on the subject lately
    	(Satanism, not Heavy Metal), and I can tell you that he has
    	only exposed one aspect of Satanism (and demon worship in
    	general).  The links between Satanism, violence and Heavy
    	Metal (or any form of music, for that matter) are tenuous
    	at best, and are always on an artist by artist basis.  That
    	some satanists are attracted to rock music is hardly 
    	surprising.  What is surprising is the level of hysteria
    	the American public swallows in the name of 'news'.
    
    	   This show was a farce.  If you want to learn the facts
    	you have to turn your TV off and read a few books (or notes
    	conferences).
    
    	   When you have done so, you will know what trash they
    	broadcast and will be unable to swallow it from that point
    	forward.

	I saw the following in the editorial section of the January issue
	of Guitar Player Magazine.  Reprinted here without their permission,
	but I don't think they'll mind.  It really hit home with me, especially
	when you consider that GP has a very broad base of readership.  I
	think we need more of this sort of sentiment in the national press.

		"It was as trashy a piece of sensationalism as I've ever seen
	on television.  I'm referring to last October's Geraldo Rivera special
	that purported to be an investigative look into Satanism in America.
	We were treated to the usual horror stories of what some people possibly
	do in some instances for some reason perhaps having something to do
	with the devil.
		Since Guitar Player is a magazine about music, I'll refrain from
	dissecting the program's electronic yellow journalism, Mr. Rivera's
	pace-for-paces's-sake approach to interviewing, and the show's simp-
	listic answer to complex societal problems.  Maybe the devil made them
	do it.
		I would, though, like to challenge the program's (Rivera's?)
	prominent thesis that there is some proven link between heavy metal
	music and hacking up one's mother with a pen knife.  Heavy metal has 
	been a very popular musical style for more than a decade; there must
	be tens of thousands of metal albums that have been recorded through-
	out the world since then, and with hundreds of thousands of songs in-
	troduced, I venture to guess that the demonic side of life (a fas-
	cinating topic of the arts ever since cave dwellers put charcoal to
	wall) has been the subject of a small minority of metal compositions.
		It was implied that heavy metal music has the power to turn
	choir boys into baby peelers, which is akin to saying that Gregorian
	chants can draw the malevolent into priesthood.  Now, I'm not asser-
	ting that some axe murderers weren't all-night fans of one or more of
	the world's thousands of metal bands, but it's safe to say that even
	greater numbers of major do-badders throughout time have been manic
	Bible-readers hearing "messages from God."
		My point is that the Bible isn't any more responsible for
	shocking mayhem than is heavy metal music.  Life and personality
	behavior are a little more complex than that.  Let's leave the witch
	hunts, simplistic generalizations, and ratings-at-all-costs mentality
	where they belong -- in the trash rather than in our living rooms.

    well!  And figure, that's coming from someone not partial to heavy
    metal.  Finally someone with the sense to see through the

    for the "supposed" relationship between heavy metal music
    and devil worship.  The only one I found is almost a year
    old so I decided to just start a new one.  I am cross-posting
    the following from another file.  It is quite lengthy.  But I
    thought it might be of interest to us because of some of the
    usual comparisons of heavy metal music and satanism.  Also because
    it is centered around the Maynard/Acton/Chelmsford area.  Which

Subject: Satan in the Suburbs
 
Living here in Northern Massachusetts, home of the supposedly
open minded folk of the East coast and spending my spare time
running a Pagan BBS, I thought we were comfortably far off from
the recent media blitzs of National tv, the Christian Networks
and the recent controversey in CA with the OTO. Then I opened
up the local sales-flyer paper we get each week, The Minuteman
Chronicle Sunday, circulation of 101,672 in the Lowell/Billerica
region, to a blood Dripping headline:
 
        Satan in The Suburbs
 
To one side was the green blobed quote:
 
       "Look at me, Satan's Child. Born
        of evil, thus defiled. Brought to
        Life through satanic birth. Come
        look at me and I'll show you
        things that will open your eyes...."
          Fron the song 'Possesed' by the group Venom.
 
Blazened in spectacular four color newsink, were a listing of
Symbols:
    An Anhk (labeled as Egyptian ANCH Cross, and with a
           sidelabeling of 'The Cross of Satan represents Life')
    A Peace Symbol (labeled as The Cross Of Neri, and with a
           sidelabeling of 'Cross upside down with the arms
           broken')
    A Dagger, upright (labeled as 'The Sword of power' and a
           sidelabeling of 'Aggressive force used in Satanic
           rituals')
 
This in a local shoppers flyer, distributed for free to all the
homes in the area (Oct. 29th, 1989 date on issue) that usually
has local town meeting results, real estate ads and the weeks
grocery coupons - in otherwords no real hard news or 'bad news'!
Mouth agape I read on... 2 full pages of the paper's worth of
print (in a paper of only 36 pages, 22 of which are fully ads)
claiming expose, local devil worshipers suspected, how to id a
devil worshiper etc...My stomache turned at their misinformation
and obvious madness of all this.
   THis area supports an ADF proto-Grove, a Wiccan Group, the
college is about to allow the formation of a Pagan STudents Group
and two very visbile (media wise) Masonic Temples, and a population
that is less than 50% Christian (We have in the area a large
immigrant population from the Orient which sport their own beliefs
and places of worship). This sort of 'reporting' should not even
begin to be visible here...
   I want people here, and thru the Nets, to see the sort of
material thats showing up, and see why we must start pulling our
groups and selves together into a true feeling of community and
protect ourselves before we are all destroyed seperatley or
forced to do as was done before and slip back into the shadows
to hide from these fanatics....My next few posts will be from
this paper, which is published by Beacon Communications, 20 Main
ST., Acton MA 01720, editor Bill Lindsay. If anyone wants to help
sway them by writing to the editorial department, they insist you
send them full address info and a phone number you can be reached
thru. Perhaps a flood of letters from us each time the media does
this sort of thing will help bring some changes....

       SATAN IN THE SUBURBS

Alchol and drug abuse is no surprise in area high schools, but
police are now confronted with troublesome evidence of satanism
in some suburban communities.
   Dead animals in Acton, graffiti in Maynard, heavy metal music
blaring themse of Satan and the occult - all these are evidence
of cults and devil worship, say area police.
   But, there are signs parents can look for, and some teens are
more susceptible than others to the rituals of satanic worship,
according to Wesley Simons, director of Burlington's Community
Life Center, a teen counseling center.
   Teenagers most prone to satanism, Simmons said in a recent
interview, are those who have no close relationship with either
family members or friends. And, he added, "These are angry kids."
   Anger and isolation are the two characteristics, Simons stated,
"that predispose an association withh angry acts."
   Another sign, SImmons warned, is involvement with "Overtly
satanic acts" such as the use of symbols, rituals, animal killings,
reading occult books, listening to heavy metal music, and 
sometimes, playing the fantasy game "Dungeons and Dragons."
   "Emotional factors feed this behhavior," Simmons stressed. If
the emotional problems are not present, he added, teenagers may
just "dabble" with the symbolism of satanism such as the satanic
alphabet, heavy metal music, or related games.
   Even with strong close relationships heavy involvement could
happen, Simmons said, but "most likely it won't happen."
   Cult practices and satanism are not limited too teenagers,
police say. Because satanic acts are performed in secrecy police
often lack concrete evidence of criminal acts. However, police
now say that abducted childeren or runaways may be victims of
satanic rituals used as a guise for sexually abusing children.
   One case, reported last March by Lowell police, involved a
cult of local 13 and 14 year-olds. Two members reportedly drove
two recruits to a New York town where they were subjected to 
satanic rituals involving bloodletting and animal sacrifices.
   In other suburban communities police report evidence of satanic
worship ranging from graffiti on buildings depicting satanic
symbols to shrines in wooded areas, to animal mutilations. While
most incidents go no further than graffiti and are perceived as
harmless, there are enough isolated incidents of more serious
activities to concern police in some towns.
   "Its here," said Inspector Ken Duane, Chelmsfords juvenile
officer, simply said "We have no actual documented facts, but we've
found little shrines in the woods with rocks and candles." There
was also one isolated incident of a mutilated dog he said.
   Duane reports dealing with teenagers involved in satanic
activites, but extreme involvement does not take place "to a huge
degree. Police," he added "definately see a connection between
drug use and satanic worship. Anyone on drugs is capable of
anyuthing."

   Recently, there was "talk" of organizing a satanic group
between Chelmsford and Tyngsboro teens, Duane said. But police
managed to break up the groups and "get some of the leaders
off the streets."
   "We also see a connection between Heavy metal music and
drugs," he stated. "These kids wear black T-shirts with Satanic
symbols," Duane said.
   In Chelmsford, as in many other suburban communities, satanic
graffiti is evident throughout the town. Police, Duane said, do
not know id it should be taken seriously, or if teens"are just
fooling around."
   Acton police also report signs of satnaic activity. Suspicions
began when animals began disappearing and mutilated animals were
discovered. But none of this, police say, could be directly
related to satanic activity.
   Again, while no direct proof exists, graffiti is presently
located at ACton-Boxborough Regional Hhigh School depicting the
numbers 666, the sign of Satan. In other areas of town, police
have located upside down crosses.
   In Burlington, Simmons reports counseling two local teens
involved in satanism. While he believs neither was seriously
involved, one was "into" "Dungeons and Dragons".
   There are also reports of suspicious graffiti in Billerica,
Lexington and Maynard.
   The Rev. Gary Heikkila of Maynard's Mission Evangelical Church
began investigating satanism after receiving a "strange letter".
This letter, he said, "talked about finding a mutilated animal
in the Gardner area and otehr things that seemed far out, but
worthy oof investigation."
   Convinced that many Christians are ignorant of Satanic worship.
Heikkila spoke with cult experts in preperation for a speech
which he would later deliver to the Maynard Community.
   Through his research, Heikkila said he learned "that Satanism
is much more than Halloween. These people have violent impulses
that prey upon angry, powerless people who lead secret lives and
are attracted to heavy metal music," he said.
   "I'm convinced that satanisim is linked to pornography, child
abuse and murder," Heikkila stressed.
   Further study of satanic worship put Heikkila in touch with a
cult expert in Dallas. "Various types of satanism are on a 
meteoric rise," he was told. "Satanism is predicted to be the
cult of the 90's," he added.
   THrough his church, Heikkila said a local woman came to him
and said she found paraphernalia involved in satanic worship in her
grand-daughter's closet. And, he learned of covens meeting in
Boxboro.
   "There are definately telltale signs," Heikkila continued.
Teenagers involved in satanism report keeping a "Book of Shadows".
These he explained contain suicide notes.
   Some young people, Heikkila cnotinued, are preoccupied with
death, while others have satanic symbols either tattoed or cut into
their skin with razors.
   Particularly troubling to Heikkila is the influence of the Church
of Satan, organized in California in 1966 by Anton Lavey, also
known as the Black Pope. This church, Heikkila said, "is amazing -
its almost like science fiction - but its very real."

Laveys teachings are "absolutely contrary to everything Christins
would accept." he continued. "(Lavey) teaches Satan is the best
friend the church has ever had."
   And, according to Heikkila, bookstores report Lavey's Satanic
Bible sells out shortly after shipments are received.
   Taking his research to Gardner, Heikkila made contact with a
musician from a heavy metal or black metal band. The band, he
said is involved in satanism and the music reflects it.
   Because Heikkila was disturbed by what he learned was 
happening in his own and surrounding communities, he delivered a 
speech about satanic worship. Shortly after, he reports, someone
attempted to burn down his church. During their investigation,
police found gasoline and matches next to the church building.
   While there is no proof that satanists were involved in the
arson attempt, Heikkila also reports receiving threatening 
letters.
   "I recieved some unsigned letters saying some terrible things
would happen," Heikkila said. "I would shudder to think about
them happening."
   Police urge anyone, whether a parent or concerned citizen, to
report signs of possibl satanic worship. In response to what is
seen as a growing national problem, an organization called BADD
(Bothered About Dungeons & Dragons) was founded in 1983 by Pat
Pauling, whose son killed himself after becoming involved in the
Fantasy game.
   The organization provides a reading and resource list as well
as information about preventive programs in "teen devil worship"

   Theres more folks - this was just the largest of the articles,
all done up by the same reporter and the same sources of info as
mentioned herein....agains, maybe a real letter writing campaign
might help, not only to the paper, but to the organizations they
are plugging so they understand that we aren't satanists! Any other
suggestions are welcome too! I'll try to post a few more from this
batch of misinformed and unsubstantiated articles (with lots of
photos too - all of Graffitti for various rock groups including
Aerosmith! can't include these here,but they're not much to look

SIGNS, SYMBOLS and SIGNIFICANT DATES

   As a tool in recogniziong and identifying possible satanic
behavior, a chart depicting satanic signs and symbols is available
from BADD INC or the National Coalition on Tv Violence.
   Also available is a list of satanic holidays and magic colors.
 
   According to these organizations signs of Satan include a
horned hand - the satanic salute - the numbers 666, the letters
FFF,or a lightning bolt. And Satan is sometimes written backwards
in "ancient writing" where 'A's are written as triangles.
   The traditional "peace sign" in satanism is the symbol of the
Cross of Neri. An upside down cross, often associated with Heavy
metal music, symbolizes a denial of Christianity.
   Another "common" symbol is a five pointed star. Two points
represent devil horns and the remaining three symbolize the denial
of the Christian Trinity.
   For members of covens, simple lines and arrows, often painted on
traffic signs, point the way to secret meetings. One area police
officer reports seeing such directional signals and several
suburban towns.
   Particularly appealing to some teenagers, are satanic alphabets
derived from the ancient runes. Using these alphabets, satanic
worships can communicate in secret.
   In satanism the most meaningful holiday is ones own birthday.
THis date is revered by other cult members.
   In order of importance other significant holidays are : 
Halloween (Oct 31) May Eve (April 30) the Summer Solstice (June 22)
and the Winter Solstice (Dec 22). One tehse days, police report
using extra surveillance for signs of satanic worship and rituals.
   Colors are also found to play a role in the occult. Black, often
the color of ceremonial robes, means darkness, sorrow, evil or the
devil. Red, symbolizing blood, can also mean energy, or physical
life. Green is a soothing color, depicting nature and vegitation.

with this drivel legally? Its obnoxious, stirs the people up
against the wrong folk and is about as far off as they can get
from what satanists believe...

                Reminds me of what my Mom and I were just talking
                about tonight.
                
                My cousin and her family are Jehovah's Witnesses.
                When I was listening  to  `Blue  Oyster Cult' she
                said in a very cold  voice,  `Turn  that  satanic
                crap off !' I asked her what she had against BOC,
                and  her  reply  was  that it was  satanic.    On
                inquiry  of  why she thought it was satanic,  she
                replied that it was because their name had `Cult'
                in it.  
                
                Okay, I'm a Christian and I'm not afraid to admit
                it,  but  I don't see a connection between HM and
                satanism.  Most  of the bands, use this stuff for
                `graphical' purposes, although I'm sure there may
                be some that use it  for  other purposes as well.
                Most  of  these  kids  that  use  this  stuff  in
                grafitti, use it for the same reason.  Graphics !
                They  know  how  people  look  at this stuff  and
                cringe,  but it's the sublime and radical side of
                the music industry.  Alot of  times,  that's  why
                it's used.  It's radical !
                
                Personally,  I think  these  `holy  rollers'  and
                `soul  savers' are going  over  board.    They're
                seeing the wrong side of  the  spectrum here, and
                completely avoiding the other side.  It's  closed
                minds that cause problems. . .plain and simple !
                
                I have my beliefs, but I also have an open mind !

I would like to have some of these reporters to check out my old-roomate's
collection of tapes, sheet music and musical tastes.  He loves MAIDEN!  He 
also likes Priest, Ozzy, Metallica, Zeppelin, Aerosmith, and lots of
other hard rock/heavy metal bands.  He is no different from you and me, except 
for the fact that he is now in a seminary studying to be a Roman Catholic 
Priest.  Even the folks in the seminary don't mind his tastes in music.
I also have considered that line of work, and I am seriously considering 
doing missionary work in underdeveloped countries.  


All because of Heavy Metal I suppose....

    Slam, thanks for that input.  I bet a lot of youngsters learn the hard
    way in finding out that the devil doesn't play fair.
    
    To some it is a gimmick, but don't be so naive to think that none of
    the rock groups really believe in what they are doing.
    
    I personally know some of the Christian rockers that use to be fairly
    successful in the secular music world.  One of them used to open up for
    such notables as the Stones, Who, Beatles, and Black Sabbath.  This guy
    has personally witnessed Black Mass ceremonies backstage before the
    shows would start, complete with human & animal sacrifices.  This does
    not mean all of the above are involved in Satanism, just be aware that
    some are involved.

            This subject is worn out. I listen to Heavy metal, I wear
           slayer T-shirts and have Motley Crue symbols in my bedroom,
           I don't feel the urge to sacrafice dogs and other barnyard
           animals in the name of satan. I love Iron Maiden, and the
           song "Number of the Beast". Before you know it, we'll be
           saying heavy metal hipnotizes teenagers into believing this.
           I defend Heavy metal to my parents, and I'll defend it on
           it on this conference..

    I've followed this topic rather intently for the last few years
    and since you are incapable of producing ANY kind of proof, like
    a newspaper article listing your body count, or anything, then
    based on what I'VE been exposed to, it's a crock, and your 
    accusations are by far the most exaggerated I've heard yet.
    	And what your friend told is just what I said it was, hearsay,
    and nothing else. You mean to tell me that all these people knew
    about this, and the authorities were NEVER called. Where did the
    bodies go, where did they get the bodies? ETc. etc. etc. just think
    about the whole thing, you have to admit it's very far-fetched.
    As if this satanic band would allow other people to witness this,
    or tell people about it, or actually do it back-stage and no one

    No one here ever said that this doesn't go on period, neither did
    we ask for a body count of the major american cities either.  All
    we said was that we don't believe that this ever happened backstage
    at a HM concert.  Just because your "friend" said that it happened
    and he was there doesn't mean cr*p, why didn't he stop it or get
    someone who could, or was he in on it to I suppose.  I had someone
    tell me right to my face once that he was at a Kiss concert and
    Gene Sommons whipped out his **** and started masterbating in front

    Mr. Ed...this is exactly how rumours get started and out of hand,

    few things.  
    
    Something I'd be interested in knowing:  Do the groups that blatantly
    utilize satanic symbolism or lyrics affect you in any way?
    
    Is there anyone out there that considers themselves a follower of
    Lucifer?

    Boy !  Seems like I opened Pandora's box Friday didn't I !  Seems
    like with all the anti-religious press flying around these days
    (Bakker - Swaggart - Roberts) that people in the religious spotlight,
    like Stryper, wouldn't be so bold.  I'm sure they party like any
    other red-blooded American males, that's NOT my point.  Bragging
    about nursing a hangover isw NOT good press for a band suppopsedly
    spreading the gospel.  They seem like they try to paint a squeaky
    clean image while at the same time playing metal, 2 opposite ends
    of the spectrum.  They try to show another side of metal besides
    a "Motley Crue" stereotype.  They slipped a few notches during that
    interview, that's all.

    Scary, are you saying then that HM is at the opposite end of the
    spectrum and thus inherently evil?
    
    If so, I disagree.  I've had many arguments with fellow Christians over
    this.  Gospel music over the ages is responsible for influencing or
    starting many musical styles.  I believe HM is just a natural
    progression of the electric instrument age and Christians are entitled
    to that form as much as anyone.
    
    Contrary to the viewpoints of many Christians, there is no such thing
    as evil music or "Power Chords from Hell"!  God created everything and
    said it was good.  What makes something evil is the attitude or
    influence behind the heart of the artist (i.e., lyrics).  Music alone 
    should never be part of this argument.
