160.1 | Zakk is wild !! | SUBURB::DALLISON | may your chickens grow lips | Tue Jul 26 1988 07:54 | 19 |
|
I read somewhere that Zakk is *just* like Randy. Ozzy has to hold
him back cos he just wants to get out there and play. Sounds like
he's got his head screwed on right to me.
Ozzy played a gig over here recently - at H.M.P. Wormworth Scrubs.
The only Ozz albums I've got is Tribute and The Ultimate Sin, which
are both real good.
Tony Iommi, IMO, is fizzled out. He will *NEVER* recreate the power
that Sabbath used to have.
Ozzys new support band is to be JAGGED EDGE - a real good British
band, fronted by a 19 year old whiz-kid guitarist - (watch out Paul
Gilbert, he's coming for ya !!! :-) )
Any help ??

| Iommi may be more tricks than licks then. Tricks to me as
a stringsmith aren't that impressive. Show me style with speed
when fitting and you get my attention. IMO, if you've heard one
of his lead passages, you've heard 'em all. Now if you like his
style, you're in luck (like I like Lynch's) if not, you're like
me, and throw on some Dokken ! Just an opinion, not fact carved
in granite.

Whoaaaa..... Hey Cookster, I'm not questioning the talent of these
musicians, just the c*** stuff that they are putting out.
Iommi is still a good guitarist, but when I say "fizzled out" I
mean his new material is trash and he's run out of original ideas.
I bought "Eternal Idol" and played to to death, trying to get into
it. I've heard the riffs A THOUSAND times before, and as someone
said, if you've heard one Iommi solo, you've heard 'em all. I still
think its trash and its gathering dust in my record collection, and
classics like AC/DC's Back In Black are doing the job PROPERLY !!!!

This what my sister's boyfreind said he was flicking threw the stations
when he came across the ORAL ROBERTS show and he decided for kicks
he'd watch it, then Iommi came walking out in front of the camera
and ORAL ROBERTS announced that he was from a band called Black
Sabbath, he said at first Tony was talking about when he was into
drugs and alcohol and praising the DEVEL and all that sh-t, and
then he went on to say " THEN JEASUS CAME DOWN AND SAVED ME FROM
ALL THAT " this is what he told it kinda blew my mind, so i decided
to share this with eveyone else and try to find out if anyone else
heard the same thing, maybe he needs OZZY to put him back on the

I also don't care what he believes in. I just wish that he
would live on his own morales. It should be the Tony Iommi Band
not Black Sabbath. He is the only member left. Seventh Star is a
fine sort of blues and metal album. He's a fine guitarist. Just
ask Dio. He admitted that he was better than V.Campbell.
Ozzy is doing on his own. Let's see Tony do it on his own.
Ozzy has Geezer back on board he has more right to use B.S than
Iommi does.
I'm really looking forward to the new Ozzy album with Geezer
and Zak Wylde. Ozzy is always doing something different....

*)Bob Daisley and the ? drummer originally played in the
latter version of Uriah Heep. Bob Daisley played also in Rainbow
on the Long Live R & R album and tour. He is a good friend of Ozzys
and helps him out with writing. He is more or less a session musician
and also recorded and toured with Gary Moore.
*)Don Airey is just like Bob. He was originally in Collesium
II with Gary Moore a progressive band. He was on Rainbows Down from
Earth Album which included Graham Bonnet as well as Difficult to
Cure. He also played with Gary Moore and went back and forth from
Ozzy and Gary. I don't know what he's doing now.
*)Carmen Appice was only in the band for a short time. He
joined ozzy for the B.A.T.M. tour and then fought with the OZZ and
was kicked out. He is starting some new band after King Kobra broke
up. Carmen started off in the Vanilla Fudge and played with numerous
guitarists including Rick Derringer and Ted Nugent.
Ozzy's present line up for tour is---
Vocals-Ozzy
Guitar-Zak Wyldd
Bass-Terry Geezer Butler
Drums-Randy Castillo

I was flipping through the channels on TV last night and
imagine my surprise at seeing none other than Ozzwald himself
being interviewed on MTV. He was the guest on their mouth to
mouth show. They showed clips from a number of his vids including
one to be released later this week. The interview was very
entertaining...
Highlights included:
Bashing Geraldo and the PMRC... He complained of not having adequate
response time to Geraldo's questions and stated he felt that he was
a particularly easy target for the PMRC.
Him explicitly stating that 'Suicide Solution' was about the dangers
of Alcohol. That's the first time I've heard him say so...
Discussion of Randy Rhoads' death and a comparison of Zakk to Randy:
"Zakk plays Randy's stuff better than anyone I've had to date"
Anthrax was also on the show but they didn't really talk to them for
very long.

shows I've seen him in. Gez was awesome... Zakk is another story...
IMO... He did Randy Justice unlike Jake E Lee who had too much of
an ego...(IMO). Zakk did most of Randy fills to the note..with
little varience.. his sole was good although after the first couple
of times I knew his git had a good sustain and he didnt need to
keep showing that point for another 5 minutes.. but as a whole he
is good and if he stays with Ozzy we can see a lot more of the good
stuff comming from Ozzy. Hopefully Gez and Randy C will stick around..

| I was at the show also- but i expected some better stuff from him
i guess. Sure it was the second time in the buildings history to
allow some pyro but he did not use it effectively like VH did in
OCT. I wish he could of sang some of the choruses to the songs instead
of letting the audience try and sing ALL the songs. He did play
a lot of his so called "hits". Since I have the pleasure of setting
up and tearing down the stage I learned some things about him. He
may be a reformed alcky but he sure was on something that nite.
He does not know the words to all the songs or should I say any
since the songs were written on the floor of the stage. He was very
sick that nite with the doctor backstage looking at him a few times
thus the longer solos for the others. But he does know how to pick
the opening act- Anthrax was awesome!!!!
P.s. - How many times did he say the word " CrAzY "??????

He did them as close as possible cause the tunes..for Zakk are cover
tunes..and they became hits on their own. The tunes dont need to
be re-written cause a git player thinks that he can do a better job. Jake

I think Jake changed the songs.. cause he was bored with them..or
they werent good enough for him. Zakk knows that the songs are
famous on their own and dont need to be re-written. There is nothing
wrong with throwing in your own little fills...but I feel that Jake
threw in too many.... He's excellent at what he does.. and I cant
wait for his band to put out an album... but I think Zakk is meant
for Ozzy... I can see a lot of Randy in Zakk.... young.. energetic..
no ego... it should be great.

'DEATH THREAT' OZZY SENT TO BOOZE CLINIC
Wild rocker Ozzy Osbourne was told to live in a drying out booze
clinic yesterday when he apeared in court accused of threatening
to kill his wife Sharon.
Ozzy, 40, was ordered NOT to return home and NOT to contact 37-year-old
Sharon.
He was allowed bail only on the condition that he stays at the newly
opened Huntercombe Manor rehabiitation centre near Taplow, Bucks.
Ozzy, looking tired and shaken, was driven straight there in a police
van after the hearing at Beaconsfield Magistrates' Court.
The millionaire, former leader of the heavy metal group Black Sabbath
will pay 3000 pounds for a minimum 6 week stay at the clinic.
Ozzy, dressed in black, shook in the dock and looked dazed as the
charge was put to him that he threatened to kill Sharon "intending
her to fear that the threat would be carried out".
The couple had been celebrating their daughter Aimee's sixth birthday
at a restaurant last Saturday.
Ozzy - charged under his full name John Michael Osbourne - was arrested
later that night at their home, Beel House in Little Chalfont, Bucks.
Mr Roger Whittaker, prosecuting, said stringent bail conditions
were sought because it was feared Osbourne might otherwise commit
further offences.
Mr Chris Fairweather, defending, said the star had just returned
from "an arduous, lengthy and expensive" world tour which has saken
a personal toll on him. He added Ozzy had booked himself into
Huntercombe Manor to help him recover from a drinking problem.
Magistrate Keith Hillyer agreed Osbourne WOULD be allowed to keep
contact with his children, Aimee, Kelly, aged four, and Jack, three,
through their nanny.
He remanded the case to September 25.

Note 658.0 OZZY ARESTED FOR ATTEMPTED MURDER SAT. 4 replies

Ozzy was arrested for trying to kill his wife. I guess he
was bombed and he went nuts. She passed out and then later he came
to his senses. When he was arrainged, he asked them if he let him
go, he would go straight to the Re-hab clinic and check in until
the court date. A restraining order was placed on him to not go
near his wife. If he wanted to see the kids, someone would have
to be present at all times.....

Unless something else happened between now and when I read the
Ozzy story, I believe he was arrested for THREATENING to
kill his wife....like saying "I'm going to kill you, you
b!tch!" But the story I read didn't say he actually
ATTEMPTED to kill her....
But, I didn't read the paper today...perhaps after he
threatened her he actually TRIED to? He was already under a
restraining order to leave her alone

Now why didn't you shove this in the Ozzy topics? This is the third
one started up for him! Sheesh! If you bother to look in the original
note you'll see that I've already told this story....he THREATENED
to kill his wife whilst he was at a restaurant, celebrating his
daughter's birthday. He now has to spend six weeks in an alcoholics
clinic. The case has been remanded until later this year. He is
NOT allowed to go home, see his wife or his kids (_even_, and I
want to make this absolutely clear, _even_ if accompanied) but may

Hahahahaha !!
When Jake was with Ozzy he was too much of a speed demon whereas
Ozzys new album seems to get back to basics - not spouting tons of
clich fills or full of 200mph runs.
I got the greatest respect for jake E Lee as a musician, but he's
a bit to much flash for my liking. Having said that, he goes back to
basic on the new Badlands album and I'm too keen on that !!

OH COME ON...!.!.!!.
You think Killer of Giants is speedy.... So tired is
speedy???..Waiting for Darkness.... Shot in the Dark...???
It was a diff style that what Jake does on Badlands..but if
you've read interviews w/Jake..for example Git for the prac Music
has a great interview w/Jake...you'll see that Jake would have done
a badlands style on Ozzy's albums..but the Ozz wouldnt have it...
even Zakk says Ozz severly limits what he (Zakk) wants to try...
even Sharon O get's invloved...telling Zakk to write more stuff
along the Bloodbath in paradise side.. (musically speaking)
Jake and Zakk are Both great.... Jake is more Classically
influenced wheras Zakk is more C&W (YES HE ADMITS IT HIMSELF!!!)
Ya cant say one is better than the other...just diff. I've
never heard Jake play country based riffs..and Zakk has yet to do
a classically influenced riff (although he admits he wants to try)
So you see Tony....ya cant say one is better...they both are
the gnadz...

I didn't mean to say "Zakk is better than Jake", is just prefer
Zakk. I do like jake playing, I just prefer the new album to
"Ultimate.." or "Bark..".
Yeah, I know that Zakk is influenced by C&W. I think its great that
he's willing to branch into different areas or let other styles
influence his style.

Oh ok.... I agree too... I think Ozzy was too restricting for
Jake but he loosened up a bit with Zakk... The newer album is MUCH
better than his last efforts...Zakk and Oz click better...not that
Zakk is a better musician....they just get along better...and Oz
is a little looser...(sp?)
I think that out of all the Different giutar players that Oz
has had Zakk does Randy's songs the best. He plays the solos note
for note because (This is what I've always said....you can even
look it up in old notes too (^8)..,"They're great the way they
are..they are popular because of how they're written..why change
it??" Zakk said that in an interview...or something real close
to that.

No, the .123 Ozzy ep is not a bootleg, it was issued by JET records as

there were a couple old Sabbath tunes and a couple new ones. I don't think
there was anything from the pre-Zakk Ozzy albums.

| Maybe I can help here. I have in front of me the latest (ie, released
yesterday) issue of Metal Hammer UK which includes an interview with
Ozzy, and details of the EP. So here's some info culled from these
items that may help.
Please also bear in mind that this information is reproduced without
permission from the relevant magazine. I'm simply passing on info.
Now, down to the nitty gritty.
The interview with Ozzy ranges far an wide but mainly concentrates on
his booze problem.
But in the middle he states that he intends to continue making albums
with his band. In particular he wants to work with Geezer again (who
was the main lyricist in the Sabbath days). He also wants to do work
with other people. He cites the Lita Ford project as an example.
The bottom line is that he wants to slow down and not have to spend
13mths at a stretch on the road. He wants to spend time with his
family, friends, etc.
So don't get disconsolate. The Oz will be about.
About the EP. It was released in the UK on March 1st. It's called "Just
say Ozzy" and contains:
Miracle man
Bloodbath in Paradise
Shot in the Dark
Sweet Leaf
War Pigs
It was recorded live at the Brixton Academy in Novemeber 1989 (during
the recent tour of the UK). It features Zakk Wylde, Randy Costillo,
Geezer, and the man himself.
I've heard the two Sabbath tracks from it and I reckon it's great. I
reckon I'll buy it (and this is a man who usually buys albums only).
Hope this helps.
Keef.

Subject: Judge questions motive for subliminal messages
RENO, Nev. (UPI) -- A judge Friday questioned what possible motive
the heavy metal band Judas Priest would have for putting subliminal
messages on an album blamed for driving two young men to suicide.
District Judge Jerry Whitehead, who earlier sat through repeated
playings of the album ``Stained Class'' with a poker face, raised
questions Friday about therecord's so-called ``do it'' subliminal
message.
Whitehead, who is hearing the trial without a jury, asked audio
engineer William Nickloff Jr. if there were people looking for
subliminal messages in 1978 when the record was made. Nickloff responded
he did not think so. Whitehead then asked why Judas Priest and others
``would go to so much trouble'' to hide the messages. Nickloff replied,
``I don't know.''
Nickloff, a self-taught engineer, was hired by the families of the
two young men suing the band and others involved in making the record.
Nickloff testified the phrases were ``cleverly disguised'' and it
took him ``hundreds of hours'' listening to the record to convince him
they were the words ``do it.''
Nickloff said he was not able to examine the original of the
24-track record but he had access to a backup of the original from CBS
Records. Listening to the tracks individually, he said he did not hear
the words ``do it.'' But he said when he combined 7-8 tracks, the ``do
it'' phrase came through. They are masked under a drum beat, he said.
Gail Edwin, attorney for CBS Records, said Whitehead's questions
``were telling.'' She noted he sat through the record playing Thursday
``expressionless.''
Edwin said the whole case against CBS and Judas Priest is built on
the theory of a mass conspiracy involving the band, engineers, producers
and CBS, a separate company in England and the one in the United States.
Parents of Raymond Belknap and James Vance claim the subliminal
messages prompted the youths to shoot themselves with a shotgun in
December 1985 after smoking marijuana, drinking beer and listening to
the music for several hours. Belknap, than 18, died instantly and Vance,
than 20, died three years later.
Under cross-examination Friday, Nickloff of Sacramento, Calif.,
agreed that the subliminal phrases appear in the same place where the
singer on the record is exhaling. But he maintained these were the
places where the ``punched in'' messages were placed.
Judas Priest members say the so-called ``do it'' messages are
simply the breath sounds of the the singer.
There was wide disagreement among those in the courtroom Thursday
after the repeated playing of the record ``Better By You, Better Than
Me,'' whether those present could make out any subliminal messages. The
records were played forwards, backwards, speeded up and with loud and soft.
***********************************************************************
In at least three previous cases -- in California, Georgia and New
Jersey -- fans of heavy metal have killed themselves after listening to
the album ``Suicide Solution'' by the rock singer Ozzy Ozbourne, another
artist who has recorded for CBS
The California case was dismissed before coming to trial when a
court ruled that song lyrics were protected by the free speech
provisions of the First Amendment. The Georgia case is pending, and
heavy metal is no longer a factor in the New Jersey case.
************************************************************************
In the Judas Priest case, however, lawyers for the plaintiffs argue
that the young men were driven to shoot themselves by the alleged
subliminal messages. Although he has yet to decide whether the
recordings contain such material, Judge Jerry Carr Whitehead has ruled
that such subliminal messages were not a form of speech and therefore
were not covered by First Amendment protections.

Mike, I want you to read these lyrics by Ozzy and tell me what you
think; It says it all about Ozzy and Sabbath as far as I'm concerned.
After Forever by Black Sabbath from the album "Master of Reality"
Have you ever thought about your soul-
can it be saved?
Or perhaps you think that when you are dead
you just lay in your grave.
Is God just a thought within your head or is
He a part of you?
Is Christ just a name you read in a book
when you were in school?
When you think about death do you lose
your breath or do you keep your cool?
Would you like to see the Pope on the end
of a rope - do you think he's a fool?
Well I have seen the truth. Yes, I have seen
the light and I've changed my ways.
And I'll be prepared when you're lonely
and scared at the end of our days.
Could it be you're afraid of what your
friends might say
If they knew you believe in God above?
They should realise before they critisise
That God is the only way to love.
Is your mind so small that you have to fall
in with the pack wherever they run?
Will you still sneer when death is near
And say you may as well worship the sun.
I think it was true it was people like you
that crucified Christ.
I think it is sad the opinion you had was the
only one voiced.
Will you be so sure when your day is near -
say you don't believe?
You had the chance but you turned it down
now you can't retrieve.
Perhaps you'll think before you say that
God is dead and gone
Open your eyes, just realize that He is the one.
The only one who can save us now from
all this sin and hate.
Or will you still jeer at all you hear?
Yes! I think it is too late.

Why?
The lead singer/guitarist is one of THE best voices around.
He's a VERY good guitarist too, not to mention the rest of
the band. I think they're one of the most talented bands
around, even if I don't like some of their material. I've
seen them twice live and I was totally amazed!

| Re: -1
Pete, I don't mean that as a knock on Stryper. I know they're
talented. The point is that Stryper is the only group you guys have
heard because they're on a mainstream label. There are much better
Christian bands out there that make Stryper sound like Pop Metal. The
sad fact is that they record on a Christian label so you'll probably
never hear them, unless you go to a Christian bookstore and try a few
tapes/CDs.
The only other alternative is to have some of them strike a mainstream
deal ala Amy Grant. In her case, Myrrh records has a mainstream deal
with A&M records. The problem here is that its a numbers game and not
a talent game. She sells well so A&M is banking on her selling well in
their market. Christian Metal doesn't sell well so I don't you'll see
such a deal with Whitecross or REZ.

anything by any of the bands with the exception of Stryper, which
I've listened to like twice.
I think you'd be better off just saying that you prefer not
to listen to Ozzy's lyrics because of the "demonic" (as you put it)
lyrics in some of his songs. Because you consider them demonic,
doesn't mean they're any more or less "good" or intelligent than
any or all Christian bands.
Religion has nothing to do with it at all for me. If I find
what I consider to be offensive Christian or offensive Satanic
messages in the music I'm listening to (if they're strong enough
to make me ignore the music) then I'll avoid it.

Mike, I never referenced intelligence because I don't think it applies.
I've already "labeled" some of Ozzy's lyrics with the "D" word, as you
said. I'll let it lie from there.
Bottomline: I may be "close-minded" in some things, but not in music.
I'll listen to anything once. Ozzy didn't earn a second chance in

The heiroglyphics on DOAM... Hmmm... I only have the tape so I'm not
sure what those are. You definately don't mean the ones on Speak of
the Devil do you? Those were Tolkein rules. I deciphered those myself
and basically they said 'This album is a tribute to Randy Rhoads who I
will never forget, etc'
I'll translate them again if those are the ones you are referring to.

Mike, from your side, it could be platypus flesh if that's what
you wanted it to look like. To me, it looks like Smucker's.
What if Crowley wanted Satanism to be accepted? Like you said,
we could debate for hours, you could say what you think Satanism
is, someone else could say you were wrong, both sides could back
it up. Basically, even if the songs said "worship the devil"
they wouldn't offend me, just as if a HM song said "become Jewish!"
I wouldn't be offended.
I see your point, I find some lyrics of some bands offensive,
probably because of my Catholic upbringing, but I don't find Ozzy's
to be overly Satanic or negative, and even if they were, they
probably wouldn't prevent me from listening to his music, which I
like.

Public views, I understand, have swayed in that everyone thinks that
preachers in general are money grubbing tv evangelists but they all are
not. My father, untill his death in 1981, worked his butt of trying to
preach, hold down a full time job, and be a husband and a father, and I
remember him also holding down another part time job because preachers
DON'T MAKE SH*T! I know, he was a college grad and also a very
intelligent man but he did what he had to do. Also the pressures that
the community puts on a preacher and his family( always perfect, never
can make a mistake, must always be the picture of Christian living,
ALWAYS BE PERFECT WITH NO ROOM FOR ERROR OR GET BLASTED BY EVERYONE IN
TOWN ) is the reason I like Ozzy's music because I relate to his lyrics
because they are the lyrics of a man who is anti-social, half crazy,
hates so-called Christian people and hypocracy. My life as a peachers
kid has caused myself to be the same way. To each his own, but
appreciate all types of music if only for the perticular people who
find pleasure and understanding in it. To say that there is no room for
a perticular type of music or lyrical style is also making you a prime
canidate to become a close-minded book burner. Is'nt America great!

staggering thought when you stop and think about it, hard to imagine,
but something to look forward to. I'm just pissed that Ozzy is hanging
it up but I can't say I blame him, you do get a little punch drunk if
you get pounded on enough. Correction, the track is I Don't Want To
CHANGE The World.

| HELP! HELP! I'M BEING REPRESSED!
No, I'm not saying that Lee isn't one hell of a player, my opinion is
that "The Ultimate Sin" success was due to Lee. The sound totally
seperates that album from the rest and I listen "Bark At The Moon"
every week. I'm just saying that I would like to hear the next album
because of the event of 'being set loose' and I know that there are a
few people that think that Zack isn't too hot but think about
this; at age 19, I think I was flipping burgers. Give Lee credit but
hey, give Zack time to get out of his diapers and mature musically a
little. Agreed is that Badlands kix but Jake E. Lee is the group and
when your the one in control you tend to go that extra mile. Same
dicussion-same answer, each is great in what they do.

160.255 | I don't think so ... | RAVEN1::JERRYWHITE | Real men don't need whammies ! | Tue Mar 26 1991 05:17 | 25 |
| I don't think Zakk will ever get a chance to go all out on an Ozzy
album. See, any album from here on out has the potential of being
Ozzy's "farewell" vinyl - would someone of Ozzy's status be willing to
let his guitar player shine like a diamond OVER him on his LAST album -
this kid thinks nay. I'd look for his next album to be similar to "The
Ultimate Sin", in that it's got more dimension rather than being just
another rock and roll album. All the releases with Randy Rhodes, to
me, seemed real moody - I don't feel that on "No Rest For The
Overweight" ... 8^)
I'd look for more acoustic stuff concerning global issues and politics,
and I would NOT look for any stuff with direct ties to Satan or the
Occult - that ain't cool in the 90's, even Slayer's getting above that.
IMHO, the next album will me great, but Zakk won't be in the spotlight.
Besides, on Dokken's last studio album (Back For The Attack, I think
...), it was supposed to be George Lynch's shining moment - a "guitar
player's" album. And that it was, mega-leads on every cut. I loved it
at first, but looking back on it now, it didn't compare to "Tooth And
Nail" which was a well-rounded effort by the group, yeilding better
music, as opposed to a guitar show (can't believe I'm saying this ...).
We'll see ..... 8^)

| Unfortunately, awesome guitar players (Like Zakk, Lee, Lynch,
Malmsteen) are a dime a dozen. Zakk will have to be in a
successfull *band* instead of being a GREAT guitar player in a generic
band. I figured George Lynch would be like that, but after listening
to Lynch Mob, he's just another player, great, but lost in the shuffle.
Thanks to Ozzy, Zakk's made a name for himself - he'll be around for
awhile.

The guitar riffs seem heavier than before, and Zakk Wylde is one of the

that's reason enough.

The main issuses such as "suicide", the bat, the dove, the Alamo, and

RE: Zakk leaving the band
Albeit quite late when I was watching it, I thought he (Ozzy)
had said that he'll "probably leave the band" but I didn't
hear anything definite being said. He did mention though
that Zakk was more into a country-rock than hard rock.
I couldn't even believe that it was Ozzy sitting there. He's
lost a lot of weight (again) and has actually gotten into
shape as well. Didn't even look like the same person.
They played some clips from songs on the new album and on
first hearing them, I'm not quite sure I like it. Guess
I'll have to add the album to my Christmas list, too. (8
He's certainly changed his outlook (?) and appearance...
Hope it's the right move for him.

the same tendencies but in a better controlled manner. Has he calmed

I guess thats what having kids will do for you.
He must have one hell of a wife (Sharon) because he said that she never
told him she would leave him if he didn't stop drinking. Most of his
veiws remain the same. If you want to do it, go for it. I especially
liked his comment on the bat after talking about all the shots he had
to take because of the incident. "If you wanna be a d*ck, try it."
Hopefully this new attitude on health will enable him to put out a few
more albums. maybe

| Well I must say..... this is THE BEST video I think I've ever seen! I
couldn't believe how informative it was... all the candid talk about
Ozzy by Lars Ulrich, Joe Elliott, Bill Ward, Lemmy, and the others!
The only thing is... I hate to say it.... but I think Ozzy lied when he
said he didn't sing anything about "gun" in the Suicide solution song.
I listened very carefully, and I definately hear "Get the guns out!"
right before it goes "soot soot soot soot soot". He doesn't say
"shoot" he says "soot". I still think it's ridiculous that it caused
that guy to kill himself though.
FWIW I bought a videotape of Ozzy W/ Randy Roads at a flea market for a
whopping $25. It's the performance that the clips in "Don't Blame Me"
are from!

How could 22.19 be in response to your .20? I entered .19 as fyi

Well, first of all, let's re-read the note you posted asking about the show
to begin with:
(From Note 22.20:)
> I hear there are two shows now instead of one...are any tix still available??
Looks to me like you already knew about the two shows, and were just looking
for info on ticket availability! Since I didn't know about that, I didn't
answer! (And I assume that's why Wayne, or anyone else, didn't respond also.)
Also, even if you were asking about the shows - why should I take the time
to look through Note #22 to find about a show for you, if you won't even
take the time to look for yourself??? Hell, there are only 20 or so replies
there, and *two* of them (.3, .9) specifically state the dates of the
Ozzy shows! How long would it have taken you to type in:
Notes> search ozzy /notes=22.*
and find the note about the Ozzy shows? Not nearly as much time as you
spend inserting .69 replies everywhere! (OK, that was an uncalled for
low blow, but you know that's always a pet peeve of mine! 8^)
Anyways, I just didn't like the insinuation that it was *my* fault that
you didn't have Ozzy tickets, and felt the need to respond. These notes
will all self-destruct before the weekend is out....

Subject: OZZY OSBOURNE/PRONG
Summary: 1/22/92, Albany
Show Review:
Ozzy Osbourne / Prong
1/22/92 (originally 12/10/91)
Palace Theater, Albany NY
PRONG: Why is it that Ozzy (or whomever decides) picks opening bands that
wind up showing him a thing or two. Remember Metallica in '86? How
about Anthrax in '88? Although not on the same magnitude as the above
two bands, Prong definitely gets a major push through this tour.
Overall, they were very well recieved. Since they're trying to promote
themselves through this tour, they stuck to playing their more
easily recognizable songs, and did a great job with them.
set list: (somewhat in order)
Beg to Differ
Pointless
Right to Nothing
Prime Cut
For Dear Life
Unconditional
Prove You Wrong
(and one or two others i may have forgotten)
for those of you who liked Prong, and dont have their albums, they
handed out Prong promo cassette-singles after the show which had
Unconditional and Beg to Differ.
OZZY: Once again, Ozzy rises above and puts on a high-energy show. And what
a show it was. The production was phenomenal, from the moment the
lights went down, and the raindrops fell and the opeing notes of Ozzy's
first ever song (Black Sabbath) blared througout the theater, it became
an event to behold. In front of the stage curtain was a projection
screen which showed a short 5-10 video documentary (sounds familiar,
doesn't it?) Yeah, just like metallica, only better, as they showed
footage of Ozzy doing bits of songs from every album from 1970-today.
A truly spectacular opening. The show itself was not unlike any of
the last few Ozzy tours except with major set list changes (see below).
There were also three large screens behind the stage which had various
images corresponding to whatever songs were playing (I wont go into
too much detail as some of it is pretty obvious, and some have to be
seen for yourselves). Usual Randy Castillo drum solo which was quite
good but not spectacular. Zakk Wylde's solo was basically the same
as the one he did on the last tour, except for the addition of some
country-music/slide guitar playing.
Set list is as follows: (prepare for some surprises)
Bark At The Moon
Desire
Mr. Crowley
Goodbye To Romance(yep, they really did play it)
I Don't Know
Snowblind(!!!)
Shot In The Dark
No More Tears
Miracle Man
I Don't Wanna Change The World
War Pigs(played in its entirety, unlike during the last tour)
Suicide Solution
Paranoid(that's right, before the encore)
Encore: Crazy Train
Video: Mama I'm Coming Home (shown after the band had left the stage)

| well last wednesday,Ozzy played In Edinburgh, which is 9 miles from chez
Staynz.I knew one of my friends was going,so I went along for something
to do.Let's face it,he can't sing,he looks buggered,he is the original
leaping lardball......
but what a f*cker of a show he put on.Absolutely superb.Two minor
downers were the elongated guitar solo and drum solo, other than that,
excellant. When he played Paranoid,2 guys leaped on stage and started to
freak out.As no security stopped them, another 40 jumped on stage too.
It was brilliant to see all these silly buggers having a croon a-long a
Ozzy. The band kept playing and managed to play another song or two
while there was a battle between security and mob.

Jake ok, Randy and Zakk are my favorite of Ozzy's guitarists.
His production, songwriting, and musicians have always been top notch.
It's no wonder he's managed to stay popular all this time.
Tony Iommi? He played some memorable stuff in early Sabbath, but his
more recent material has just gotten worse and worse (IMO). Besides, I
don't have any technical respect for any professional guitar player

Iommi roolz! But then again, it's not always technical merit that I
judge a guitarist on - it's how much I enjoy his music. Sure, Iommi's
riffs are usually very simple (yes, everybody's first electric guitar
playing started with bar-chording "Paranoid") but they're also very
memorable. I give new Ozzy a chance, but only until I go back and
listen to "The Wizard" or "Snowblind" or "The Warning" I realize how
unsurpassable Ozzy/Iommi were.
I lauged when Dave mentioned Jake being good on the whammy bar, geez,
I used to think that's *all* he could play: it tended to get
monotonous. Night Ranger was more suitable for that kind of hokiness
(not meant in a bad way), imo.
Zakk? Barf. He's what I hate about metal guitarists today. I won't
go into why, I already know that statement won't go over big, but where's
the beef?
Ozzy/Randy went together very well. Ozzy was still fiesty back then,
though... I wonder how much Ozzy changed becuase of losing Randy or
just because he wanted to change. I think his mellowing with age has
hurt him, musically speaking.

FWIW-Written without permission from The Gazzette Telegraph
by Todd Caudle.
OSBOURNE SAYS FAREWELL WITH A REPLAY OF PAST SHOWS
Denver concert promoter Barry Fey walked out onto the Red Rocks
Amphitheatre stage Tuesay to introduce the performer 10,000 kids had
filled every seat to see. He had introduced Black Sabbath at the Denver
Coliseum in 1971,he said, and this time he was ushering that band's
former lead singer,Ozzy Osbourne, to a Colorado stage for the last
time. Osbourne has dubbed his current tour "No More tours."
After waxing poetic about Osbourne, Fey yelled, "Let the madness
begin!"
Apparently oblivious to what had just been said onstage, Osbourne
staggered onto the stage and repeated, "Let the madness begin!"
It was that kind of night. The again, it was a typical Ozzy
Osbourne concert.
Osbourne came to Denver last November to play the 3,000 seat
Mammoth Events Center as party of a warm-up tour of small venues. One
would think, after seeing the smaller show, that something would be
different in the larger open-air setting of Red Rocks. Unfourtunately,
except for a few onstage video screens, the red Rocks show was
virtually the same as last year's. And the year before. And the year
before that.
Not much has changed for Osbourne. He still peppers his somgs with
out-of-place endearments to the audience---"I love each and every one
of you guys!" and "You're the greatest!" were the common themes---and
expletetives. He can still manage to mangle his way through his
songs, pushing his voice to extremes instead of concentrating
on any sort of control, and his shows are still filled with excessive
showboating by certain members of his band (Zakk Wylde is an excellent
guitarist, but wouldn't you rather hear another Ozzy or Black Sabbath
classic than an 11 minute guitar solo? I know I would.)
One uplifting aspect of the concert was Osbourne's fitness quest. Last
November, he sported a leaner, meaner physique, and he seems to have
maintained it. Not that it matters, since he's supposedly calling it
quits, but an equal amount of time spent maintaining his voice would do
wonders for his live shows. It can be done, since he proved how well he
could sing when he controlled his voice for a few of the slower songs,
like the encore of "Mama, I'm Coming Home."
The concert was packed with enough standard Ozzy hits and stage
shenanigans to satify his audience, however. He and the rocked through
"Shot In The Dark" while Osbourne emptied a five-gallon bucket of water
over his head , then sent another bucket into the front rows, promting
one female fan to counter by lifting her soaked shirt over her head and
baring her breasts to the band.
As with last year's show, the few Black Sabbath tunes Osbourne dusted
off were the show's highlight. "Paranoid" and "War Pigs" were so
solid, all I could think of was that it might be time for Warner Bros.
Records to consider releasing a box set of the classic metal band's
music.
Osbourne relayed a fitting tour epitaph towards the end of the
show when, looking back over his career, he said, "Thank you for
letting me be Ozzy Osbourne."
You're welcome.
Osbourne was the headlining of a triple bill that also included
Slaughter and improbable phenoms Ugly Kid Joe. It was Slaughter's
fourth time at Red Rocks, an impressive feat for such a young band. But
even though Slaughter is currently pushing its new album "The Wild
Life," nothing was very different this time, either. As for Ugly Kid
Joe, the band proved it has better material than that stupid hit
"Everything about you," but not good enough to give it more than a
slight notice.

Gawd, I love how these rumors get started! Plant's son died on the way to
the hospital, on the way from Plant's house. Crowley's ex-mansion had nothing
to do with it.
And Bonham also did not die in the Crowley mansion, he dies in one of Page's
other homes..... (Jimmy collected a lot of real estate in Britain).....

Don't blame the book (which I have right in front of me). The book clearly
states that Karac died in the way to the hospital, from Plant's home. AND
that Bonham died in Page's home in Windsor, no in the Crowley castle. So
I dunno where you got your info from, but it wasn't from 'Hammer Of The

Is there anybody who can write something about the song?

| It's called "Shake Your Head" and I think it's really a Was Not Was
single featuring that unlikely pairing. Apparently both vocals were
laid at different times which spared Miss Bassinger the experience
of bumping into the old bat-biter. I would'nt worry about your
English Guenter as it's a lot better than my German. 8^)

| "Shake Your Head" from the first Was (Not Was) album featured only
Ozzy (to my understanding). Maybe Don remixed it with some Kim
Basinger noises recently or something, but I have that album (vintage
about '84-'85) and I don't remember that song having any female vocals
at all. Definately had Ozzy though, but they lost his familiar vocal
effects, so he doesn't sound the way he does on his own albums.

I heard the song Friday Night. The Song is from Was not Was and
features Kim Basinger and Ozzy. It is "Shake your Head".
But it is not a Heavy Metal Song.
It is more like Dancefloormusic. Like C&C Music Factory or something

If you like Ozzy as a Heavy-Metal Singer you will hate this one.

I was going to reply "what Lemmy, Alice C, Ozzy tune?" When I decided
to do a search for 'Lemmy'.
You're probably referring to the videotape Ozzy came out with last year
that was somewhat a documentary on himself. Everything from the start
of Black Sabbath to now. Alice and Lemmy are a couple of the people
who comment on Ozzy. Very cool tape I thought. Can't remember the
name of it though... "Ultimate Ozzy" maybe?....

| Has anyone ever seen Ozzy's very first album he was ever on?
He was with a band in the early 60's called "The Magic Lanterns".
This is no joke, even though Ozzy looks hilarious on the cover
of this record. The music on this album is no less than horrible.
Ozzy is given credit on the record for playing bass and doing the
vocals but it does sound like they are taking place when he's half
asleep.
After one look and one listen to this terrible record one could
easily be convinced that he truly did sell his soul to the devil to
acheive the level of greatness that he aquired not long afterwords.
If you would care to check out The Magic Lanterns record there is
a copy of it at Recycle Records that has been there for many years.
One listen and you'll know why.
Ozzy went down to the crossroads to make a deal with the devil.

In the new "Guitar for the (occasionally) Practicing Metalhead", there
are a few lines about Zakk. It says:
No, that's not Gregg Allman you'll be hearing doing lead vocals on the
Stevie Wonder gem "I Wish", covered by CPR(Coven/Pitrelli/Riley) on
their forthcoming fall release. The voice belongs to none other than
Zakk Wylde (contributing some pretty smokin' guitar licks as well),
whose own solo demos are songs that show strong CCR/Allmans/Lynyrd
Skynyrd influence. Zakk reports that a new Ozzy Osbourne studio album
is in the works as well as another live Ozzy package.

are (to the best of my knowledge) the original lyrics to the
song s.i.n. from the 'no more tears' album. the recording i
got them from is dated may of 1990... it is a studio demo cut.
the instrumental follows the released song closely, it is only
the lyrics that are different..... sounds like oz decided to
scrap a tragic lost life song for one of paranoia and despair.
on the demo the song is entitled "won't be coming home(s.i.n)".
wonder if he was thinking of randy when he wrote this....

Dickie Betts, lead guitarist for the Allman Brothers, was arrrested over
the weekend (some kind of domestic dispute). Although the band bailed him
out of jail, he wanted to go home for a couple weeks to relax.
So what do the Allman's do without their lead guitarist? Cancel the show
at Great Woods last night? No way! Instead the bring in another guitarist
to take his place......
ZACK WYLDE!!!
Yup, it turns out that not only is Zack a total Allman's fan, but he even
used to play guitar in an Allman Brothers tribute band in LA before joining
Ozzy. So he came down yesterday, they had about 3 hours of rehearsals (some
Allman's *shows* go longer than that!), and away they went!
According the Boston Globe review this morning, Zack did a great job, and
it was a great show!

(I know, it couldn't be...). At any rate, this guy apparently

I picked it up. There are a couple tunes (a couple Osbourne-Butler-

connection that does absolutely nothing for me. Vocals all-in-all

dig in the long run. Certainly polished-up enough to become another

It's got to be the one. You can tell right off the bat...middle
eastern vibed-out sitar-sounding Vai-type noodling for the intro.
Other than the intro, it sounds like Zakk Wilde took what was

with the band mentioned in the liner.

Not as much as I would like to have seen. Like the S. Vai
collaboration, the sky's the limit and you know the talent's
all there when you want to fire it up.
Although there's certainly a decent amount of somewhat experimental-
sounding stuff on the new one, I would like to have seen even more
territory being blazed by Ozzy and co. in that vein.

Check this out: I picked up a rather rare bootleg of an Ozzy
show from '81 at the Montreal Forum. Yes, '81 means Randy was
there!! -Cool.
Interesting stuff here...pretty much the same songs from "Tribute",
but Randy is ALL over the place improvising, substituting rhythms,
fills-way more than what is on the "Tribute" CD. "Paranoid" at this
show RIPPED!! Randy pulls off a solo that is anything but what was
laid down on "Tribute". Makes we wonder... (considering the time
frame here..."Tribute" recorded in Canada late '81, this Montreal
show obvoiusly somewhat close in the timeframe)...if Randy simply
'made-up' a different solo for this number each night?
Other noteworthy tunes: "Crazy Train"- fills extrodinaire here!
"I Don't Know"- absolutely rockin' rhythms happening...great fills
not found on the other recording.
You can feel the high energy in Montreal that night. As for sound
quality: not bad at all; much better than some other stuff I've got.

Well, Dave, apparently not.
If you've already conditioned yourself not to like any other
Ozzy guitarist besides RR, then your mind is already made up
not to like this [or any other] Ozzy album without RR on the
guitar.
Zakk very well could be as good as RR, but I can't say that
he is, nor can I say that he isn't. All I know is that he's
a very good player, and that I like to listen to him play.

the tour was great, and Zakk really can rip it up!! He's probably the
BEST Randy "clone" of all ... he even looks and plays the part as well.
No More Tears was a great album ... Zakk had finally settled into some
decent song writing and playing.
I was unaware Zakk was still with Ozzy? I had heard that he was
"ousted" from his band for "new meat"?!? Guess not?!

as far as i know... zakk plays on ozzmosis but will not be
touring so he can go back into the studio for a follow up to
the first pride & glory lp... i though that i had heard this
way before ozzmosis was even talked about (spring '95?) but
i may be mistaken. i highly doubt that ozzy would kick zakk
out of the band for whatever reason... i've never heard anything
but praise come from ozzy about zakk's playing, he just doesn't
care for zakk's interests in the 'allman' sound of pride & glory.
that's all that i have heard... don't hold me to any of it... ;-)

Rick Wakeman.... Not sure what he sounds like or what's good or bad
playing for him. He certainly doesn't stand out on the album, except
for maybe the last song... A Ballad with lots of piano.
Anyone notice that Lemmy Kilmiester helped write the 5th track on
the album?
Anyone else notice that Ozzy sings to some family members on a couple
songs, with lyrics that indicate he feels me might not be alive
too much longer?

Could this be the reason why Zakk did the album.
Back a few someone said that Lemmy co-wrote track 5 on Ozmossis. He
also co-wrote a few tracks on No More Tears. Which is the best Ozzy
album since Diary of a Madman.

160.619 | Retirement sucks hits Scotland ! | IRNBRU::61541::MacAndie | | Tue Nov 21 1995 05:29 | 28 |
| The "Retirement sucks" tour hit Glasgow last night and was s**t hot !
It started with videos of Ozzy scaring the s**t out of with Forrest Gump,
appearing in drag in Madonna's Vogue video, with Elvis in the Vegas suit era,
rolling a joint for Bill Clinton, etc.
The whole audience was nearly p**sing themselves laughing, but that could be down
to the effects of the demon alcohol 8-)
The man himself was in top form and the band much tighter with Geezer and Randy
Castillo at the helm.
The set was much the same as the last tour, but with more Sabbath material,
including paranoid, sabbath bloody sabbath, iron man, sweet leaf, children of the
grave and war pigs.
All of the classics from Ozzy's own albums were there, but strangely nothing from
Ozzmosis.
Joe Holmes was awesome, sounding at times uncannily like Tony/Randy/Jake/Zakk,
especially on Crazy Train which was the best version I've heard post RR and I've
seen Ozzy many, many times man.
Verdict : 9/10 (lose 1 point for no new stuff)
Ian
BTW Re a few back, Ozzy says in an interview in one of the guitar mags that Zakk
was given an ultimatum to choose if he wanted to tour or join Guns n Roses
and was kicked out when he wouldn't make up his mind.

| The only evidence of any new stuff was on tape, a bit of "I just want you" on the
intro and "See you on the other side" at the end of the show.
It could be that the two guys who were not on the album, Joe and Randy, hadn't
got the new stuff down yet, but I find that hard to believe.
You never know, but by the time they reach the US you might get a few tracks.
Having Geezer in the band made a huge difference, there is definately something a
bit special between him and Ozzy.
I'm going to try to pick up the g/z/r album (Plastic Planet) at the weekend.

| I'm really surprised there's no critic's review of the Ozzy
show in Worcester this past saturday.
I spoke to a friend who said the show absolutely choked, and
the only redeeming value came from Geezer Butler.
He didn't like the guitar player at all, and the solo was
nothing but noise & feedback.
Ozzy's voice was cracking everywhere, nothing but screams
and losing it whenever trying to sing in upper range.
(upper range for Ozzy anyway)
But that was just one person's opinion...

Yah but you hear that even on his studio records. It's just part
of his Ozziness.
I'm not a great fan of his voice, but he always seems to find fabulous
guitar players and songwriting partners (Tommy, Randy, Jake, etc.)
Bottom line: I like the albums although the Randy years will always
be my absolute favorite.

Well, I went to Rochester to see Ozzy on Monday, and all's I
can say is, for a man of 48yrs, he still kicks major ass. This was
the first time I've seen the Oz, but what a great show he put on.
As stated earlier alot of old stuff, only one from the new CD (See
you on the other side) I think he said the Bassist was from Alice
in Chains(?) We got to meet the band (minus Ozzy) after at a party,
great-great time...
It was the first I'd heard of Korn, and was pretty impressed,
I was MORE impressed with Life of Agony (alot like Rage Against
the Machine) and will definately be pickin up their CD, and possibly
Korn's...
Bobby T -- PS that video of Ozzy before the show was hiliarious,
Ozzy singing with Elvis, Beatles, Madonna, smokin a
joint while Clinton did his speech, in the can with
Bevis and Butthead, on the Addams Family etc...I coulda
watched that all night...Great Show, and I can finally
say, "I"VE SEEN THE OZ"
