29.2 | Album title anyone? | 8775::REICHEL | | Tue May 17 1988 15:52 | 9 |
| Speaking of Judas Priest, could anyone tell me what album
the song "You Got Another Thing Comin'" is on. I actually
saw them when they toured the album (and they ARE the priests
of heavy metal!!) but for the life of me, I can't remember
the name of the album.
Thanks

The song is on 'Screaming for Vengeance' (1982 or 1983).
If you're looking for it, you should be able to find it
almost anywhere.
Other good ones from the same:
Riding on the Wind
The Hellion/Electric Eye
Take these Chains Off
Fever
This is subjective, of course ... just offering an opinion.

Yes, I believe it was Columbia. It's either the 3rd or
4th album or so, with all the early 'greatest hits' on
it.
Another one I just remembered is 'Hero Hero', but I don't
remember whether it's old greatest hits or recent greatest
hits - but it's one of those.

First I heard the high-pitched scream - which I quickly
recognized. Then the unmistakable sound of the guitars
winding up. The bass and drums followed.
The new Judas Priest song ... 'Ram It On', I believe it's
called. Or 'Ram It In', but I think I would have remembered
if it was that. 8^)
K.K. has been practicing ... he can actually PLAY that thing
he's been trying so hard to play for the last 10 years or so.
Not a Glenn Tipton yet, but give him time.
Rob Halford is still sounding fantastic, and his ability to
hit the high notes hasn't left him.
This song is the title track, so look for 'Ram It On' in your
favorite record store.

Wow, JP, one of my all-time favorites!! I have been disapointed in
their lastest albums, IMO Screaming was the last good Priest album. Turbo was
a major disapointment. Some favs are -
Cheater - Rock-rola
??? - Sad Wings of Destiny, I can't remember the name put there is
a part where the guitars just go back in forth, great stero tune.
I'll look it up on the ride home.
Diamnds and Rust - Sad Wings ??
Hell Bent for Leather - Hell bent for leather
Favorite Album - Sad Wings or Unleashed in the East can't decide
Has JP always consisted of the same members??

I agree about the last 2 albums (to an extent), but 'Defenders
of the Faith' is my favorite by these guys (Love Bites makes
me WILD!!). After that, I don't know what happened ... they
added the synth-guitars (which sound OK, but take a little
kick out of the guitars - in a way, they add to them).
One of my favorite JP songs is "Hot Rockin'", followed by
"Green Manalishi" (live version kicks some SERTIOUS butt!!).
Personnel ... I believe they've gone through 3 drummers since
the beginning of the band, and maybe 1 other bassist, but as
far as I know, the rest is the same. I don't have the records
(Rocka Rolla, Sad WIngs of Destiny, Sin After Sin) to check
it out, but if no one beats me to it I'll take a trek over to
a friend's house and look.

| Hello there.
It seems that you guys are a little behind on whats happening with
Priest!
They have just released a new album titled "Ram it down" (not "Ram
it in or up " as some-one suggested )
I must say that it blows any other "metal" album away. Halfords
voice is better than ever, Tipton and K.K. Downing's dueling guitars
sound fiercer (with some use of synth guitars),and the songs are
even more powerfull.
It was rumoured that Snot, Aching and Waterwing were to produce
the album, but this thankfully didnt happen.
I have also just seen them live and it was great!!!!!!!
Any way I must be off, so,

I didn't like Turbo in the beginning but it grew on me and I think
it's pretty good now. As for RAM IT DOWN! I think its a great
improvement over Turbo. I was afraid Priest was heading down the
Motley Crue or Cinderella route after Turbo. Ram it down changed
my mind. I didn't get to see Priest at the Centrum but I did manage
to get to see 'em in Providence. They Kicked ASS!!! I don't know

they used burnt hair on my arms and I was in sec 211. The volume

I read this whole note, and didn't see any mention of
`Deliverin the Goods' from `Hell Bent for Leather'. Now
that song just grabbed me the first time I listened to it
and although it may not `throw me across the room', it
sure can get my blood boilin' ! :^)
The song that someone mentioned back a while ago from
`Sad Wings of Destiny' with the duelin' guitars, may be
`Dreamer Deceiver', although I can't be sure. Definately
a good stereo song to listen to.
Another kicker off of `Screamin for Vengeance' would
have to be `Devils Child' ! Those that listen to it will
know what I mean ! :^)
`British Steel' had another called `The Rage' that I
though was a good slow motion kick in the a$$ song.
`Point of Entry' - Definately has to be `Desert Plains'
I like the mix and the drums just kinda' stick with you.
Jeeze, I could probably go on and on, but I have to attempt
some work today. :^)

Personally speaking here. His social / personal life doesn't
interest me, so I don't care if he's gay or not. His musical
talent interests me. I'm a Priest freak from WAY back, and will
continue to be. (Hell, I own all by two of their albums)
Why does it seem that someone who's in the spotlight gets
raked over the coals more than just an everyday human being ?
Does his being gay have anything to do with the fact that he's a
screamin', kick-a$$ singer ? I don't think so.
I'm not saying `Value Differences' here, cause I don't like
to talk shop in an `Employee Interests' notes conference, but I
will say that every person has their OWN interests/preferences

| Before anyone gets the idea that I hate gays or I'm a homophobe,
I want to say a few things. It's true that I don't agree with the
homosexual point of view. The way I was brought up I find that
the act of homosexual sex is immoral. This is due to religious
and my own ethical values. I know that his sexual preference makes
really no difference in his music. Some of my interpretations
of some of their songs may change, but that doesn't mean I won't
still love Priest's sound. I still think Halford is cool. I just
disagree with his prefrences. I don't like aspects of some of my
friends but I still think of them as friends and don't treat them
diffrently. The reason I brought it up in the first place, is that
I was just curious on the truth to the rumors I heard.
The Sentinel
(BTW Please don't try and tell me how I shouldn't think homosexuality
is Immoral. I have a right to my own feelings, and it does have
to do with certain religious beliefs. It's just my opinion.)

environment. While I don't feel that I am prejudiced against people
which are homosexual, I still don't condone it because of my own
beliefs.
In specific reference to Rob Halford. It doesn't make me stop
enjoying his music. But it ain't for me, that's for sure.

| I've been too busy the past few days to read this conference, so
I'm gonna ignore Greg's request ;^)...
I believe Adolph Hitler was a Fascist not a Communist -- this
relates to a reply back a ways.
I have a friend who I've known a LONG time who recently "came
out of the closet" and expressed the fact that he was gay. As far
as I know, I'm the only one (out of a good sized group of friends)
who knows about it). I'm not going to get into his interpretation
of why he is the way he is, because it's irrelevant. He became
a born-again christian a few years ago and this has caused him a
great deal of pain in dealing with his sexuality. He feels so
guilty, and lives in such a great deal of emotional pain, because
of his religious beliefs, that he stifles his feelings and is caught
in a living hell.
I've told him that it doesn't matter if he's gay or not, that he'll
always be my friend, that he can't live in this way or he'll go
crazy. How should I deal with this situation?
As far as Rob Halford being gay...who gives a sh*t? I feel sorry
for people who are so bigoted and closed minded that they can't
accept people for what they are. Don't even mention the AIDS issue
in this context or I'm liable to reach through the Net and grab
you by the throat!!!

I think this is a fantastic attitude to have. Growing up in Boston
then working in retail for a couple years expsed me to alot of gay
and bisexual men and women. I never had any fears or hated them
and never ever even considered it. I have had some very excellent
friends who were gay and what they do in the privacy of their bedroom
is their preference. I never went around telling them my intimate
stories and never cared to hear their's. Its doesn't make a person
bad just different and I can repect them even if I don't understand
it.

re: .99
I believe that your point (it's the music, not his sexual preferance)
was what most of us actually SAID. Anyway, as .100 already pointed
out, if you check the dates on the previous replies they indicate
that nobody has said anything here for about a month.
There are many notes which have interesting little tidbits about the
people in the bands, not just the music. A lot of people are
interested in this. I think that's how the discussion on Halford
began.
<mild flaming flicker>
If you don't want further discussion on a subject, DON'T BRING IT UP!
That's the surest way of starting it all over again. If you want to
change the direction of a discussion, the best way to do it is to bring
up something else interesting to talk about. Complaining about the
current direction is grossly INEFFECTIVE.

I've been a Priest fan since 1984, I was 12 back then, and I feel
that their music has definitely helped me through life. The music
since "Defenders" was a little off-beat, but it was really cool.
I don't see why they should take crap for being the only ones with
enough b*lls to experiment with new ideas.
"Ram IT Down", which came out about a year ago, is probably my

amazing as well as musically.

Good bad or otherwise, there's no mistaking the

at my apartment, it was about 8:00 AM and I was trying to sleep. These
little brats were running up and down the hall outside my door
screaming there heads off. Needless to say the little rug rats woke me
up. I got pissed off and threw in the SFV tape and cranked up THE

still prefer listening to the raw sound of "British Steel" better then
either one. Hey, it's not complex music, but it hits me hard. I also
liked "Point of Entry" which a lot of people seem to slam.
Their early music is also really cool, but to me it's like listening to
a different band. Like "Rock-a-rolla", "Sin After Sin", or "Sad Wings

`SFV' *is* the gnads, but I didn't say it was the
best ! You can't really put that title to any of
the Priest albums, cause like GH said, their
older stuff is like listening to a totally
different band. (i.e. - `Sin After Sin' & `Sad
Wings of Destiny')
Priest has grown through the years and have
changed styles with the times, BUT they haven't
lost that raw edge through any of their albums.
The edge may have gotten a little dull during the
past coupla' albums, but it's still there. Now
all we (as loyal Priest fans) need to do, is
write them and tell them to go back to the HARDER
and SHARPER edge they had for `SFV', `Hell Bent
For Leather' (Also a gnads album) and `Point of
Entry'. (Just to name a couple. :^)) Maybe we
can turn the tides and make METALhistory by
getting Priest to go back in time to that raw
era. :^)

I'm sure that they are all partially Deaf due to all their extream

Now that they decided to change I don't think they will be going
back to that extra sharp "British Steel" rasor edge. Ram turned

found a ground that they are comfortable with.

The report then goes on to quote how great Glen and the others think

I like em all. Anybody like Unleashed In The East? I remember when
British Steel came out. There was no such thing as Heavy Metal or
Thrash back then as far as a label for this type of music. Priest
was considered Hard Rock. They were realitivly unknown. There was no
MTV and Heavy Metal wasn't the commercialized crap that it is today.
Priest was practically an underground band. Judas Priest and Iron
Maiden were the start of an avalance of real hard core Heavy Metal
bands that haven't stopped flooding the market since the early 80's.
There was also another British band that started a new type of "Hard
rock". Even though they were never really accepted in the states,
Motorhead was extremely popular in England by combining Heavy Metal
with Punk. At first it was called "Speed Metal" now it's known as
"Thrash". One of Metallica's main influences was Motorhead. It's
apparent in the way they play.
Anyway, these bands paid their dues in the 80's and paved way for the
all these new bands that are out today. Most of the new bands use MTV
or the radio to get famous. Back when Britsh Steel came out it was alot
different than it is now. I liked how Heavy Metal was hard to come by
back then. Those were good times.
Rocka Rolla is a milestone in the story of Metal. It is the first album
from Judas Priest. The Grandfathers of Heavy Metal.

that I don't like. They all have descent tunes
on them, and being a dedicated Priest fan, cannot
think of an album that I don't like. Even `Sin
After Sin' (which was said in an interview with
Rob Halford that I saw back when `Turbo' was
released) wasn't one of their greatest works, it
still had the style and power of Priest.
No matter what, they're all good, although I

You can't really count "Unleashed ..." when picking their

`Breaking The Law'
`Don't Go'
`Heading Out To The Highway'
`Hot Rockin''
`You've Got Another Thing Coming'

`Love Bites'

Not bad in my opinion. It's 38 minutes long and
there's only one or two of the video's that are
concert footage. (Mimicked or actual, I'm not

They also had a `Priest - Live' compilation for

Can't even think of how they could EVER be a poseur band.
They aren't OVER-played on the radio stations, (in fact, just
the opposite) or on MTV, or plastered on the cover of
poseur-style magazines. (i.e. - Metal Edge, RIP, etc. . .)
Very interesting question though, although I'd personally
have to say that anyone THINKING that JP is a poseur group
has to either have `hard water brain damage' or has done some
serious mind-altering substances.

lot of the faster SfV stuff. Only thing I don't like is the very
end of the song. I think they could have ended it much better,
with Rob keeping his mouth shut.

| Judas Priest Says They Were Scapegoats in Unnecessary Trial
by ANNE M. PETERSON
Associated Press Writer
NEW YORK (AP) - Members of the heavy metal band Judas Priest
would like to put the recent past behind them, but they're not
about to change their tune.
The band is recovering from a recent Nevada court battle, which
questioned whether subliminal messages exist on their 1978 album,
``Stained Class,'' and ultimately prompted two young men to enter a
suicide pact.
Lead singer Rob Halford and guitarist Glenn Tipton said their
court victory, clearing them of deliberately placing the subliminal
messages on the album, was bittersweet. But they're not about to
quit making the music they've been driven to make for the past 16
years.
``We won't back down to that kind of legal terrorism,'' said
Tipton. The Priest's new hard-driving album, ``Painkiller,'' and
upcoming tour demonstrate their tenacity.
The band was cleared on Aug. 24 by Washoe County District Court
Judge Jerry Carr, who ruled the plaintiffs' alleged subliminal
message ``do it'' on the song ``Better by You, Better Than Me,''
was an unintentional exhalation of breath and a drum beat.
``We were fighting a case on an issue based on something that
doesn't exist. We had to sit in court while they were discussing
Freudian theories on subconscious levels and whether the
subconscious mind could pick up sub-audible signals and act upon
it,'' said Tipton. ``We had to sit through that when all the time
we wanted to just stand up and say, `But there are no messages!' ''
Raymond Belknap, 18, died from a self-inflicted shotgun blast to
the face on Dec. 23, 1985. James Vance, then 20, shot himself also.
He lived but suffered horrible facial disfigurement, and died in
1988 of complications from his injuries and a reaction to
medications. Both had listened to ``Stained Class'' before making
the suicide pact.
Their families sued Judas Priest and CBS Records for $6.2
million in damages, claiming the subliminal messages were on the
album and influenced their sons' actions.
Defense lawyers, however, countered that the youths came from
troubled homes and had been drinking and smoking marijuana that
day.
The judge did order CBS Records to pay the plaintiffs $40,000
for refusing to comply with discovery orders involving the original
master tape of the album.
Both Halford and Tipton, recently in New York before three weeks
of rest in England and Spain, said they were sorry the young men
died, but the band was the unnecessary scapegoat for the tragedy.
``People try and shoulder the burden of guilt on any one else's
shoulders. They should look a little closer to home for the real
issues and the real reasons that cause incidents like this,''
Tipton said.
Halford added that it was ridiculous to place the blame on the
band or the music. He said at times during the court battle he felt
it was heavy metal on trial, not just Judas Priest.
``There's absolutely never been, and never will ever be, any
scientific proof evidential that heavy metal music, or any kind of
music, can physically make somebody to do something, or change, or
be someone else.''
So-called ``backward-masking,'' or conveying a subliminal
message by recording it backward, also became a well-publicized
issue in the trial.
Halford testified on the stand he had put a backward message on
one Judas Priest song, but it was not on the album or song cited by
the plaintiffs. And he disagreed that backward messages are
``masked'' to influence behavior.
``No, it's not backward-masking. And that's the confusing issue
about that. When I made that statement in court, the prosecution
was jumping up and down in glee, because they thought they won the
trial,'' Halford said.
``The fact is, it's just a sound effect. It's been going on
since Jimi Hendrix and before him. It's a simple operation of
recording an instrument - a cymbal, a guitar, a voice - backwards
to create a sound effect. It's been going on for 30 or 40 years,''
he added.
Tipton agreed, saying it was impossible to prove whether
backward messages are effective.
``In the whole history of there world there is not one instance
that's been proven that anybody can interpret anything backwards,
particularly something below audible level,'' he said.
Halford, 39, wearing a T-shirt imprinted with the words ``Free
Speech'' formed from the American flag, is the group's primary
lyricist.
He said that although Judas Priest is known for
``no-holds-barred'' heavy metal, he's never written lyrics that are
obscene, or advocate satanism or violence.
``That's what's so ludicrous about the whole controversy
supposedly surrounding this band,'' Halford said.
Tipton agreed: ``We've never condoned the use of drugs or
alcohol or doing bad things.''
Although the band does use words such as ``hell'' and ``damn''
on the new-release ``Painkiller,'' the words are not used in a
violent manner.
``It depends on how these words are used. We don't say `Take
these babies down into hell and kill them.' It's like `Hell's a hot
place.' The word hell is used, but its not used in what I would
consider a bad or influential way,'' Tipton said.
Judas Priest, which includes Halford, Tipton, K.K. Downing, Ian
Hill and Scott Travis, will go on the road in October with their
new album. The worldwide tour starts in Canada, moves into the
United States in November, and ends up in Europe next year.
Judas Priest is one of the founding fathers of modern-day heavy
metal. Known for cultivating the leather, studs and motorcycle look
in heavy metal, the band has cut 14 albums.
Although Judas Priest has been around longer than many in its
genre, Halford says competition with younger groups is no longer an
issue with the band.
``What I've noticed in the past few years, particularly in heavy
metal, is that the substance is the most important issue now. It's
not how much hair you've got and how pretty you look. It's the
validity of your work,'' he said.

I got into Judas Priest in late 1983, or maybe early 1984
when "Defenders ..." came out ... that was the first H_M
album I'd ever bought, and I was very impressed. At first
I thought they were the best guitar team, until I started
to listen to the songs and follow the "lead break" notes
that JP supplies with their albums.
Glenn does all the major fingering, and KK does the wimpy
stuff. They go good together, but Glenn stands out by a
mile or so.
BUT, I seem to remember that on "Ram It Down", KK was get-
ting better ... and I had a harder time figuring out who
was playing on some songs. So he's on his way to being a
contender.

| Saw the Judas Priest/suicide story on PBS tonight... thanks to whoever
mentioned that it was being re-broadcast!
Like has already been said... the kids came from dysfunctional
families. The parents tried to blame their failure on the music. One
of the kid's sisters tried to commit suicide and she didn't even listen
to metal!
It said at the end that the one survivor admitted himself back into the
hospital and later died of an overdose of medication. Reasons unknown.
Not complications of the injuries as you thought, Shawn.
Maybe it was another (sucessful) attempt at suicide.

| Another point to note is that one of the lawyers or someone was quoting
lyrics from another one of the songs off Stained Class. He said that
Judas Priest sang "The father, son, and holy ghost. Electric ecstacy"
And went on to say that Priest were combining phrases in such a way as
to merge the holyness of the bible with something_or_other, I can't
remember what.
But I put on Stained Class on the way to work today, and heard that
line in the song Exciter. They don't say "and holy ghost", it's
something else which I can't make out, but it rhymes with "son".
It's definately not holy ghost. So they didn't even have the lyrics
right! (Unless it's sung somewhere else too... I didn't hear it)

No! I would say not!!! Eeesh!
His nose looked like it was about twice the normal size (or more).
I'm surprised he still had both his eyes! Considering there was a
nasty looking and bloody crack in his forehead! Ouch!
They showed the scene too, where his friend lay dead on the ground by
the merry-go-round thingy. I'm surprised they showed that. Couldn't
really see a whole lot anyway though.
It was great to see Rob Halford play a boombox for the judge on his
desk! Also, when the Vance boy's mother was telling the jury what kind
of music *she* listened to, (country western), KK Downing started to
smirk! Tipton managed to keep a straight face however.
I wish I had taped it. Is it going to be on again?!

I disagree, I thought Ram It Down had some great cuts on it,
especially Blood Red Sky. Painkiller was great, new life for the
Priest on that one! Some of Halfords vocals I don't care for as far
as the way he was singing them, but I thought it was a great CD.
I also have heard the song that Halford did for the movie Buffy The
Vampire Slayer. The song really cranked! I have almost bought the
CD for that one cut, but I thought I'd wait and see if Fight put
out a release with that song on it. I'd love to hear more Priest,

Shane, listen to more of their stuff ... I think you'll like
a bunch of it.
And does anyone have any info on the upcoming tribute album
that was mentioned in some other note? Does anyone know who
will be doing which songs?

"Light Comes Out of Black" was released as a CD single, if you
don't want to buy the entire "Buffy ..." soundtrack. And, of
course, if you can find it.

It is a good one tho.

| A Tribute To Judas Priest
Legends Of Metal, Vol 1.
Another boring tribute album?
Another quick cash-in?
Certainly not! Actually, this is what every true Metal fan has been waiting
for:
A tribute to the gods by bands that have established a name in Metal
(no make that M.E.T.A.L.!) for themselves,
or are clearly influenced by the mighty PRIEST.
Bands that are similar in attitude
and will appeal to every PRIEST maniac.
And there is still a lot of us around
- no matter if Metal is the fashion of the day or not.
JUDAS PRIEST have recorded 12 stunning studio albums so far
- and few bands have written so many timeless classics in their careers.
Some of these anthems you'll find on this album,
some will be featured on Vol. II,
and some may come as a complete surprise.
But you'll enjoy them all and find yourself crawling on the floor
after re-living these LEGENDS OF METAL!
So turn up your stereo, grab that old air guitar - and remember:
You've got another thing comin'!
- Gtz Khnemund
(Rock Hard magazine)
These words from the sleeve of the album says it all. It is an album that
will keep you rocking for at least 59 minutes and probably much longer. All
bands make excellent performances with guitar work and arrangements which
sometimes are so much like the original that it's hard to distinguish
between them. In some parts I miss Halford's vocals, but it's probably just
a matter of getting used to it.
The cover artwork is made by Axel Hermann and shows a typical
Priest-monster, apparently mutated from The Metallion from the cover of
"Defenders Of The Faith", The Hellion from "Screaming For Vengeance" and
The Painkiller. Only the right part of the monster is visible from outside,
the left part is on the back inside (under the CD). The cover also has a
slightly modified version of the standard Priest logo in a gold/yellowish
color and a listing of all the bands in what seems to be a
most-famous-first order: Helloween, Saxon, Gamma Ray, U.D.O., Testament,
Rage, Mercyful Fate, Devin Townsend, Fates Warning, Lions Share, Doom Squad
and Radakka.
All the lyrics are printed in the sleeve and helped me to fix some mistakes
in "Saints In Hell" (two lines in French, no wonder I couldn't figure it
out!), "Sinner", "Metal Gods", "Burinin' Up", "Rapid Fire" and "Victim Of
Changes".
About the songs...
Helloween - The Hellion/Electric Eye (4.04)
Classic Helloween sound with a touch of Priest. Good guitar work.
Fates Warning - Saints In Hell (5.03)
A song from the 70's with sound from the 90's. Ray Alder's voice is
really magnificent in this song.
Gamma Ray - Victims Of Changes (7.19)
A bit heavier than the original but same arrangements. A true classic
piece!
Devin Townsend - Sinner (7.40)
Clearly inspired from the version on "Unleashed In The East". It even
has the audience roars. Heavier than the original and a real rocker.
Mercyful Fate - The Ripper (2.50)
Probably the track where I miss Rob the most. King Diamond's voice is
not perfect for this song, but it's still a good performance.
Rage - Jawbreaker (3.26)
A slightly more rocking version of this (in my mind) classic Priest
song.
Radakka - Night Crawler (5.49)
A creative version with some voices deep from the grave in between.
Doom Squad - Burnin' Up (3.55)
Pretty much like the original...
Lions Share - A Touch Of Evil (5.37)
Very good version with a special interlude in the middle. Andy
Engberg's vocals reaches every note. And he even has the same haircut
as Rob.
Testament - Rapid Fire (3.40)
The least Priest-ish track on the album. This is classic Testament
sound, with heavy guitars and deep vocals which make out the
speed/death metal sound of this song.
U.D.O. - Metal Gods (4.07)
We're all familiar with Udo's voice (if you're not, I suggest that you
go out and get some U.D.O. or old Accept albums right now!) and it
wouldn't fit in all Priest songs, but "Metal Gods" sounds almost like
it was written for Udo.
Saxon - You've Got Another Thing Comin' (5.29)
Final track on this album just as on several others. Not quite the
grab-you-by-the-guts feeling from the original but it still rocks.
Where to find it...
In Europe it shouldn't be any problems. Any decent record shop would have
it or at least be able to order it for you. In the worst case you can
contact the distributors:
Germany: SPV
Benelux: Rough Trade
Sweden: House Of Kicks
UK: Plastic Head
France: WMD
Austria: NSM Records
Switzerland: Disctrade
Italy: Flying Records
Spain: Donosti Rock
Portugal: Musica Alternativa
Poland: MMP
Czech Republic: Globus, Ma. Bona
Greece: Rock City
Norway: Voices Of Wonder
Finland: Spinefarm
Denmark: Nordic Metal
The record should be available from Century Media's mail order service in
the USA.

The new vocalist in Priest has now been selected. It is Tim Owens, a 28
year old singer from Akron, Ohio. He sang earlier in U.S. Metal and for the
last year he's been in a band called Seattle, a cover band doing Pearl Jam
and other grunge bands music. More information on Tim is available here.
This information came from Jayne Andrews, personal assistant to Judas
Priest:
"The Waiting's Over--
After being inundated with thousands of applicants from all corners of the
planet and finding many possible contenders -- Judas Priest now have their
new man -- he is 28 year old U.S. vocalist (Ripper) Owens. With Scott
Travis on drums, they are currently recording their new album scheduled for
release later this year.
It's harder and heavier than anything before -- so get ready for the
onslaught..... THE PRIEST ARE BACK.. "

| This information was provided by Robert J. Louth and all opinions are his
own. Questions regarding Tim Owens can be sent to me and I will forward
them to Robert.
General Info
Name: Tim (Ripper) Owens
Age: 28
From: Kenmore, Ohio (a suburb of Akron, Ohio not Canton, Ohio as is
published on some sites)
Description: Approx. 6 ft. tall w/brown short hair (close to Halford's hair
length when performing in local bands).
Talents: Vocals, and some limited guitar, excellent stage presence.
Previous Bands
* U.S. Metal - Northern Ohio club circuit Heavy Metal cover band.
* British Steel - Judas Priest tribute band touring Northern and Central
Ohio area including Akron, Canton, Cleveland, and Columbus areas.
* Seattle - Seattle Sound/Grunge cover band performing music from bands
such as: Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, Nirvana, Stone
Temple Pilots, Queensryche, etc.
Tim is not well known simply because he is a local guy in the Northern Ohio
(USA) area and has been in a few local area bands, but has not broken into
the National or International scene and until now, was largely
undiscovered. He can sing with power, he can scream, wail, or he can have a
very gruff, growling or scratchy sound to his voice or he can sing in
harmony or in a melody. He is very versatile and should be able to "Deliver
the Goods" and do anything he is asked to do by other members of Priest.
I have seen Tim perform live with both British Steel and Seattle. He seemed
to have no trouble performing/sounding remarkably similar to Rob Halford,
and did an admirable job performing material from all of the Seattle bands
as well. (Performances with British Steel actually included all appropriate
Leather and Chrome accessories!) He has a tremendous vocal range (Similar
to that of Halford) and will be able to accurately perform most old Priest
songs live. Ofcourse there is only one Rob Halford in this world, and I am
not implying that Tim Owens will replace him, I simply mean to say that for
all of us traditional die hard Priest fans, he will be able to do justice
to all of the old Priest material in concert. And you'll be amazed how much
he looks and moves like Halford on stage!!
On Vinyl?
To my knowledge, Tim has not appeared on vinyl (or CD) anywhere before.

What's the skinny on Priest's new singer, "Ripper" Owens (some
sh#t like that..)? I was reading in one of the geeter-mags that
they listened to 1000+ tapes and held countless auditions. And
according to Glen Tipton, this guy had the gig from the very first
line of "Victim Of Changes" (probably my favorite JP tune ever).
I guess he's from somewhere in the midwest...don't know what's up
here. Anyone?

I just got it last week. I was a bit hesitant because it received
mixed reviews, but when I saw Cozy Powell featured I just *had*
to get it.
The verdict: very good album. The only thing I can't get used
to is Glenn's singing. I guess it's no coincidence that my
favourite track is an (almost) instrumental. The final track
"Left For Dead" is an awesome ballad, and Glenn's cover of the
Rolling Stones song "Paint it Black" is very good too. Kind of
like Priest's cover of "Johnny B. Goode".
Get it.
