FOR SALE: Takamine EN-10C Acoustic/Electric Guitar

    I just had Richard Stanley do $250 worth of work on this guitar. It
has been completely refretted with wider fret wire (glued in). The entire
neck and fretboard has been trued to remove all traces of warp. It also
has non-PC ivory bridge saddles. This guitar sounds great especially when
its plugged in.

    I just bought this guitar back in May, but while it was in the shop,
I bought a Taylor 710. The Taylor cost twice as much, but it was well
worth the money.

    I paid $750 for the Takamine *before* putting any work into it, so I'd
like to get the same money back. The guitar is in as new condition. I only
had it for a few weeks before bringing it to Mr. Stanley and I just picked
it back up from him two weeks ago. He does incredible work!!

      Digitech GSP-2101 tube preamp/processor. All you have to do is read
    the latest magazines and catalogs for the scoop on this unit. This is
    an amazing sounding preamp in its own right even before getting to the
    effects. (I really didn't need anything besides the H & K ACCESS with
    all the other gear I have, so call this an equipment reduction on my
    part) Trust me - the ACCESS is better(and much more expensive), but not
    by a lot. I have the remote foot controller included with it (it alone
    runs $299 list!) Also sounds great through the stereo headphone jack.
    Asking price - $750 w/foot controller.
    
      Metaltronix/Perfect Connection power amp. 100 watt/channel stereo
    power amp for guitar. Single space and real powerful. Will work fine at
    four ohms. Probably the best LED metering of any guitar power amp (dual 
    sine waves). Admittedly the company is out of business, but then again 
    I have had no problems whatsoever with this power amp. The deal on
    this rarity - $250. 
    
      Take both for $950 and I'll even throw in a four space Unitech rack
    case worth $100. Keep in mind that that price gives you a full stereo
    rig with MIDI controller and case. All you need is speakers and a

    I checked this amp out at Andy's house last night. It has reverb,
    tremolo to "die" for. The tone on the whole was *excellent*!!!!
    
    Why didn't *I* buy it? For me, it didn't have enough clean "headroom".
    I know I know, you're probably saying, "but Fred, it's a 40 watt (RMS)
    amp...  what do you expect?" True, it sounded GREAT, but for my needs
    I need something with more clean power. After all, I have to compete 
    volume wise with db and Willy (whom I clocked at 110db...  all
    by himself...  alone...   just going around his acoustic drum kit...  
    without being miked!)

    I'll be happy to scan the local rags for your stuff, but below are some 
    pointers from having done this on a regular basis for some time now:

    Never seen anything like this used -- but I would say go for the Boogie
    Simul 290 -- seen a few bands play these recently and they seem to be
    pretty road worthy and have a great tone.

    Hmmm, about the only one which ever pops up from time to time is the
    PMC70, and that ain't cheap either.

    Again, I never see these used.  People tend to want to keep the good
    stuff, ya know?!

    A lot of people are using the Boogie cabs you mention above -- they
    seem to sound pretty good.  The Marshall cabs you would have to special
    order ... lots of used marshall cabs around these days, but with the
    higher wattage speakers mostly.

    I wouldn't recommend the PCM 70 as a guitar effects processor... unless
    you plan on redoing virtually every patch in the thing. They tend to be
    very studio oriented - with a lot of patches for vocals and drums. The
    LXP15 is a decent guitar FX processor, but I find it a bit noisy and
    extremely sensitive to input level... in other words, it only sounds
    good when the input level is *just right* and in a guitar rig, that's a
    bit of a bother...
    
    So, if you're really leaning toward Lexicon, and can go for a new unit,
    I would check out the PCM80. It's quite the box... expensive as hell,
    but worth every sonic nickle. And although it too leans heavily toward
    studio use (like the PCM70), it has all of Lexicon's newer real-time
    MIDI algorithms which are especially nice for guitar.
    
    Another opinion... the finest of the guitar processors is Eventide's
    H3000S. I think it beats anything by Lexicon as a guitar processor,
    and is cheaper than the PCM80. You can pick up an H3000S for about
    $1700 mail order (new).
    
    In the LXP15 price range, I think the Digitech mumble mumble (their
    newest preamp/FX box) is a better choice than the LXP15. And it
    gives you more features -- like a cabinet emulator and an additional
    preamp.

      I'd put in a vote for the Intellifex since it is very acoustically 
    transparent, glitch free when changing patches, and fairly easy to
    program. I'm still VERY satisfied with mine! Rocktron makes solid
    stuff.
    
      My three favorite rack purchases in the past :
    
    	1) H & K ACCESS
    	2) Rocktron Intellifex
    	3) Rocktron Velocity 300 power amp
    
      Whatever you choose, it looks like you've got a firm idea of where
    you want to go with this. Then again, you have a ton of experience
    building racks. (can't say the same for restraint!)

    Not that it matters, but I agree with Brian that a PCM-70 is totally
    wasted in a guitar rig.  I don't recall having ever seen anyone using
    one like that.  I have, however, seen a bunch of Eventide and TC
    Electronics units in guitar racks (of the stars), H3000s, 2290s.  Oh
    yeah, and some Lex Prime Times too.  
    
    Keep your eyes open, I see LXP-15s for sale on Usenet every once in
    awhile.  They seem to go pretty fast though, so I suspect the used
    prices are staying up there.

    back cover. Rack is covered in that rug type stuff and is in real good
    condition.

I've seen this type of ad from the other end so many times; now it's finally my
turn.

I'm "slimming down" and reorganizing my setup, and have two items to offer:

First is a MIDI foot controller, the Roland FC-100 Mark II. This was originally
designed to control the Roland guitar effects units (GP16 etc., as I recall)
*or* to be used as a MIDI controller with the RMC-1 adapter, which is how I
used it. This is a *very* solid piece, nice-looking black steel throughout, I
imagine it's impossible to break. (Not that I've tried, it's in showroom
condition.)

I'd like to sell *both* the FC-100 and the RMC-1 for $150 or BRO.

Second is a Casio VZ-10M rackmount synth. This unit has solid, "thick" sounds
reminiscent of analog machines; I like it a lot but find that I have the same
bases covered with other modules, so I've opted to get back the rack space (2U)
it represents. A steal at $220/BRO *with* a RAM card (stocked with additional
sounds).

Both units are like new, come with all factory manuals.

    Man, check out what they're asking for that National Tri-cone!
    And the Style 1 is the least ornate and desirable of the bunch.
    Tri-cone styles describe the amount and type of engraving
    on the body, and the more ornate ones have typically sold for
    double and more than the price of a I.
    
    Btw, I believe National has a Tri-cone re-issue out now that's
    endorsed as "good as the real thing" by Bob Brozman, who literally
    wrote the book on vintage Nationals.  At somewhere around $2k,

    Oberheim Drummer interactive drum pattern sequencer

    This is essentially a drum machine that doesn't sound like a machine
    (and doesn't have any sounds of it's own).  It varies patterns and fills,
    and can even follow your tempo and add fills when it notices you aren't
    doing anything (see caveat below).

    I was very impressed by this gizmo, but unfortunately it doesn't
    meet my needs.  I'm a guitar player, not a MIDI keyboard player, and
    some of the coolest features on this box really require MIDI input to 
    be useful (the tempo-following and auto-fills).  Also, while it's great
    at 4/4 rock, reggae, salsa, etc., it's kind of lacking in support for
    waltz time and slow ballads (both of which I do a lot of).

    These guys go new in the mail-order catalogs for $159.  I'm asking

    Due to a hideous holiday guitar accident, to which noone in my

    fixed...funeral services have been held for the guitar, now known

  RAMSA WR-S212 12 channel mixer - most suited for live performance.
Main/Monitor outs, 2 sub groups (L/R stereo). Two effects sends with 
extensive control/switching. 
  All channels have XLR/Line inputs, TRS insert points, three band EQ
with sweep mid-range. Nice long throw faders. PFL listen (solo).
  Control room output is multi-selectable. Extensive monitoring on 
both headphones and four LED ladder meters (two assignable). 
  
  This mixer is very quiet and solidly built using top quality components.

    I'd say slightly more than $50 if it's in good shape. A new one costs
    about $125. I sold one for $60 to a fellow Deccie a while back.
    
    BTW, I called the guy on the Harmony's. The red one is gone. I may
    be looking at the other one tonight. Even if it's beat, the DeArmond
    Pickups on these babies are easily worth the asking price. 
    
    BTW, I also checked out a Harmony bass at lunchtime. I may buy it
    but the price was kind of top dollar. This bass has a hollow-body
    just like a Rocket with 2 DeArmond Bass pickups and a Fender-style
    headstock. It's a cool bass, but there is a limit to how much I'll
    pay for one of these. It kind of takes the fun out of it if I have
    to pay too much.

    Although if I could afford "the" Hammond C-3... well... heck, yes I'd
    probably buy it and enshrine it.

    He was the guitarist of Journey, Bad English and played in
    Santana's band for a while too. He now plays with musicians
    from Santana's old group in a new band called "Abraxas"
    (without Carlos Santana).
    
    And yes, a 36 input Soundcraft mixing console costs that much.
    A new Sapphyre series console cost 3 times that much in a
    36 channel config...

    Four in/outs so the whole band can use it! $150 shipped to the
    Northeastern US, $160 for most other places in the US. 
    
      KittyHawk Patch Bayette 1 and MIDI foot controller - a combination
    that will allow you to switch your amp and stomps via MIDI. There are
    six switchable loops and two programmable relay switches. The foot
    controller is heavy duty and includes a 18 foot MIDI cable which uses
    an XLR connector on the foot control end. These were pretty expensive
    in their day, I'll let them go pretty cheap at $175 for both. 
    
      REXX 1602/601 three channel two space 150 watt (8 ohm min) guitar 
    system. Compact and powerful. All channels have EQ and the crunch and 
    lead channels have multiple gain controls. This is an great sounding

	Spring Cleaning Continues. I've added more items to the list and

1.  MXR Flanger/Doubler - 2-space rack mount unit. Classic metallic blue
    front panel. Has ins/outs on both front and rear panels. Front panel
    includes: power on/off sw, flanger/doubler sw,  level,  sweep width,
    sweep speed,  mix,  regen, invert,  in/out. Rear panel also has 1/4" 
    jacks for bypass, and voltage control input/output for  "expression 
    pedal"

    This is an older unit but it is in very good shape. It is missing one 
    knob and the flanger-doubler switch is missing a plastic cap. Other
    than that, all controls work fine and the unit is relatively quiet. 
    This unit is built like a truck and is cosmetically very good. I'm not 
    sure what the expression pedal jacks control....$50.
    
2.  Chandler PCP1 guitar compressor. Not a stomp box. Mounted in a small
    metal case which looks like a miniature rack-mount box. Front panel
    Has level, attack and compression controls, plus in/out switch. Rear
    panel has 1/4" ins and outs plus 1/4" foot switch jack. Runs off of 
    a wall-bug (included). Very similar in features and sound to a Boss
    CS3 compressor/sustainer.  Like new condition......$40.

3.  AKG D190E dynamic microphone - Low impedance dynamic microphone. Older 
    style mic with satin-silver finish. Includes mic clip and case. Performs 
    similar to a Shure SM57. $40.00

4.  Maccaferri Plastic flat-top guitar. Collectable guitar made in 1953. Neck
    has a unique tilt feature. For more details see the Maccaferri note.

      KittyHawk Patch Bayette 1 and MIDI foot controller - a combination
    that will allow you to switch your amp and stomps via MIDI. There are
    six switchable loops and two programmable relay switches. The foot
    controller is heavy duty and includes a 18 foot MIDI cable which uses
    an XLR connector on the foot control end. These were pretty expensive
    in their day, I'll let them go pretty cheap at $175 for both. 

      BC RICH ST-III strat style guitar. Thunder blue, one Dimarzio
    Humbucker in the bridge and two BC single coils. In decent condition,
    a couple small dings, but overall in very good shape. keep in mind this 
    is a USA made neck-thru guitar (not a NJ, platinum, or Rave cheapie 
    guitar). Brnd new it ran $1,280!! Seriously I have the receipt from
    East Coast Music. I'll sell it with the case for $400.

It probably depends on which mailrooms are involved, but there have been
many occurences in the past of DEC mailroom personell throwing out things
they deemed "personal mail".  I haven't heard of any in a long time,
though, so maybe they don't do that anymore.  Personally, I wouldn't take
the chance.

    Both guitars are black and waaaay cool! I use the Dano model for
    electric slide. The lipstick tube pickup is nice and gritty sounding,

   Yes, it's a "1-800" number (U.S. residents only?).  The "1" indicates that
you're calling outside of your local calling area; the "800" is an area code,
with the special meaning that the call will cost you nothing.

    	My stepson inhereted a sub-Cort species of a les paul copy
    electric. Somewhere along the line all the strings broke and the
    tailpiece dropped off into a black hole somewhere. I need to know when
    I can find a replacement tailpiece, for some random far-east les paul
    copy. I'd like to be able to just got there and buy it...
    
    	I'm even having trouble envisioning what part this is, come to
    think of it. Is the bridge and tailpiece all one item on an ordinary
    les paul?
    
    	Anyway, suggestions of what to do / where to go are welcome!

    Some Gibsons had stop tailpieces, which were bridge and tailpiece
    in one unit. Lots of cheaper model SG's were like this.

    Most LP's have a separate Tune-O-matic bridge and Stop bar tailpiece.
    Either of these is easy to find.
    
    The 1-piece bridge/tailpiece is another story. Not really easy to
    find a replacement for this type. 
    
    If what you need is a stop-bar tailpiece, I have a Schaller fine-tuning
    unit that fit's right onto a Gibson with no mods. Comes complete with 
    studs (if you need them) for $25.00.

    May I ask how much for ?  Here in the UK they started at around �500,
    dropped to �259 (when I bought mine) then disappeared altogether.  I've
    seen 2 second hand ones for figures in between.

    I'd like to build a "floor monitor" style guitar cabinet, but have
    forgotten everything I ever learned about woodworking.

    I would check with manufacturers like Joe's, Bag-End, etc. for
    a ready-made cabinet like you described. Don't expect it to be

Why don't you try one of those stands designed for holding a guitar
cabinet at an angle?  I'm sure I've seen them in several catalogs,
and they probably have them at your local music store.

Assuming you're responding to me, the stands I'm talking about look
something like this from a side view:

Those angles aren't exactly right.  They actually tilt the cabinet
or combo amp back at around 30 degrees or so.

    Inside of DEC, the DCU is a good way to do business.  Outside
    of DEC you have a couple of options, I'd guess:
    
    1.  COD (cash only) of the whole amount.
    
    2.  COD (cash only) for half the amount, and trust the person
        to send the dough after inspecting the contents.
    
    Oh, and option *3*:  Make *me* a deal on your strat.  :-)

    Do you have any family or friends in the Mass area that would 
    make a trip worthwhile?
    
    I like Coop's idea of using the Digital Credit Union. I would
    send the buyer a few good pictures of the instrument via mail
    and if he approves, have him transfer the money into your DCU

I tend to trust people myself, and they usually live up to it.  I do try
to have a lot of communication with the other party first, by email and 
phone.  If I get bad vibes about the person I back out of the deal.

No matter how you conduct the financial transaction, you should never even
consider mailing/shipping anything valuable without insuring it.  The
insurance is inexpensive, too, so there's no excuse for not doing it.

    My son plays lead guitar in a punk band, and needs an amp that will
    be loud enough to fill a moderate function room. I'm guessing that 100
    watts would fill this requirement. It would have to be something that
    was more than just "loud" for those times when he plays mellow.

Martin Twelve String Guitar	$750
This guitar is a 12 fret 1970's Martin D12-20 body with a Martin prototype 
1940's vintage neck with slotted head and "Martin" abalone inlay name on 
the headstock.  This guitar has been priced to reflect repair work done. 
The top and neck were replaced/repaired by Jack Obrien, an authorized 
Martin repair technician.  It is structurally in great shape with low action 
and full sound (though the repairs are visable).  This guitar stays in tune
which is testimone to Jacks work.  This would be a great guitar for someone
who want the sound and feel of a Martin but can't afford the price tag of
one in pristine condition.  with softshell case


Fender Strat Delux		$700
Pristine condition, very little play  Predominently black with red starlike
steaks flairing out from the center of the body.  Rolling nut, locking tuners,
Red blue and gold lace sensers with molded fender case, tags and strap.

     Mesa Boogie System and more! - Quad preamp ($650): rack mount unit 
     with two complete preamps in one unit, each has a rhythm and lead 
     channel, each channel also has a separate switchable EQ. Used with the 
     Rockman Midi Octopus (also for sale - $50) and Rockman MidiPedal 
     ($75), all channel switching can be done via MIDI, or use a computer 
     sequencer. Simul-Class 295 all-tube power amp ($800): rack mounted 95 
     watt/channel stereo power amp with Class A and Class B selectable. 
     This is a serious amp system for serious guitarists (sorry, no 
     speakers for sale). Add to it the ART SGE digital effects generator 
     ($125) and get a complete MIDI programmable tube amp system. Put it 
     all in a Mesa Boogie 12 space shock-mounted rack case ($300) with

    I am having my wife's 70-ish Fender Super Reverb repaired (new tubes,
    new reverb tank) and I have one little cosmetic problem to take care
    of: two of the knobs are non-Fender ones and look AWFUL.  Replacing
    these with authentic Fender knobs of that period would do wonders for
    the appearance.
    
    How about it?  Anyone got a couple Fender knobs they're willing to part
    with?  Has anyone seen 'em in a store (central New England area)?  Let
    me know, and thanks in advance - I'll come pick 'em up if they're not
    TOO far away!

    Frontline, the Fender Magazine. Can't see them beeing too much. Give
    your local dealer a call if you have no luck elsewhere. I'm sure they

    1996 Fender American Standard Strat, crimson-burst finish with maple
    board.  The crimson-burst finish, if you haven't seen it, is absolutely
    stunning; deep crimson red going from opaque on the edges to transparent
    in the middle, over a figured 2-piece body.  The effect is subtle and
    gorgeous.  I played every American Standard I could get my hands on for
    over a year before finding this one; it's an outstanding player.
    The guitar is in mint, nearly unplayed condition.  With ABS fitted
    hard case, tags, etc.

    For sale - 1990 Martin Custom 15 guitar, serial 498331.  This is a
    re-issue of the pre-war Herringbone D-28s.  It's an HD-28, but with
    the following modifications:

        Maple bridgeplate 
        Tortoise-shell pickguard (simulated, obviously...)
        Squared headstock
        Advanced X-bracing, 1" from soundhole
        "Diamonds and Squares" inlay on fretboard
        "V" neck

    The top is Sitka Spruce, back and sides are Indian Rosewood,
    fretboard and bridge are ebony.

    While the sound has "opened up", this guitar is in near mint
    condition, and is one of the loudest, best-sounding guitars
    anywhere.

    List price, before Martin stopped production, was somewhere
    between $3200 and $3600; street price was about $2400-$2600.  I'm

    The Custom 15 guitar has not been discontinued as much as it has been
    relaebled the HD-28VR.  Per Martin:
    
       The HD-28VR incorporates a number of the most popular vintage features
       into our standard "herringbone" D-28 design. 
    
       Old-style squared headstock, grained ivoroid bindings, forward-shifted
       "high X" scalloped bracing, V-shaped neck, tortoise pickguard and 
       diamond & squares fingerboard inlay are combined to make an 
       exceptional pre-war "bone" replica in tone and appearance.

    	1960's Cherry Red solidbody duo-tone SUPRO, ( with a
    		thunderbolt going through the word 'Supro' ).  
    	vintage guitar book value $600.  All the front, and neck are
    		in mint condition, but there is a slight crack in the
    		back.  It does, however, have a case - which also is in
    		near perfect condition.  Some ninny wrote their name on 
    		the back of the guitar in majic marker.  But... that 
    		could be taken off.
    
    	Anyways... I'd part with it for $450.00.  Or... a suitable
    		trade + cash.   Its a most exellent rhythm guitar
    		- a distinctively 60's sound.  ( Just don't ask me
    		to give up my Silvertone. )

    I decided to put my tascam 424 up for sale.  I bought it a couple 
    months before I took the 8 track plunge, and as a result, have never
    really used it.  My 424 has seen, at most, 6-8 hours of use.
    
    The 424 is a 4 track cassette deck with a built-in mixer.  You can
    record to all 4 tracks at once.  It has two speeds (normal and double),
    dbx noise reduction, effects loop...
    
    This is the older gray version of the 424, not the new 424 mkII.  I
    think the main difference is that the mkII has two XLR inputs. 
    Musician's friend has the 424 MkII for $530.  I'll sell my 424 for
    $350, and I'll throw in two dynamic mikes (an Audio Technica, and 
    a "cable up") and an el-cheapo Radio Shack reverb unit.

These are the Dean Markley electric/acoustic strings that were on sale
for their grand opening in Natick.

I couldn't mix guages, so I bought a case of lites (9-42) and regulars
(10-46)... so needless to say, I have a few spare sets of strings now
and don't expect to need to buy strings for a very long time...

If anyone is interested in picking up some of my extras, I'll let them

    After some hesitation, I've decided to sell this one again.  It's picked
    up a small nick in the finish since last time I posted it (lower edge,
    not visible from front) so I've knocked $25 off the price.  Otherwise,
    it's still mint.  Here's the description:

    1996 Fender American Standard Strat, crimson-burst finish with maple
    board.  The crimson-burst finish, if you haven't seen it, is absolutely
    stunning; deep crimson red going from opaque on the edges to transparent
    in the middle, over a figured 2-piece body.  The effect is subtle and
    gorgeous.  I played every American Standard I could get my hands on for
    over a year before finding this one; it's an outstanding player.
    The guitar is in mint, nearly unplayed condition.  With ABS fitted
    hard case, tags, etc.

    New "salvage" price: $425 firm, + shipping if any.

This is the Swiss Army Knife of amplifiers; it does everything!
Three channels, switchable EQ, effects loop.  Switchable from 85

One flaw:  Shaft on Recording Out level has broken off at chassis.  If
you never use the Recording Out, you'll never notice the missing knob.

    I decided to put my tascam 424 up for sale.  I bought it a couple 
    months before I took the 8 track plunge, and as a result, have never
    really used it.  My 424 has seen, at most, 6-8 hours of use.
    
    The 424 is a 4 track cassette deck with a built-in mixer.  You can
    record to all 4 tracks at once.  It has two speeds (normal and double),
    dbx noise reduction, effects loop...
    
    This is the older tan version of the 424, not the new 424 mkII.  I
    think the main difference is that the mkII has two XLR inputs. 
    Musician's friend has the 424 MkII for $530.  I'll sell my 424 for
    $300 + shipping, and I'll throw in two dynamic mikes (an Audio 
    Technica, and a "cable up") and an el-cheapo Radio Shack reverb unit.
