| OK, for those of you in the arfice this week and who are about as bored
stiff as I am with the lack of activity and noise...let's hear about
your Christmas! Anyone got any interesting stories?
It was a rough one for me monetarily. Spent over $300 on the five
young ladies I'm currently seeing. Got lots in return, however,
including some cool clothes (always let women with taste dress
you...and undress you) and a great art-deco CD rack.
My two good friends in the office, worried about my sexual promiscuity
obviously, gave me a blow up doll with (as it's described on the box)
"Three entrances of love."
Spent most of yesterday alone. That was kind of therapeutic. Finally
rented and watched 'Home Alone' (very appropriate). The last half hour
was freakin' hilarious.
Later.

| 1. The next brother to get married has postponed the wedding. His
future bride is the daughter of the owner of a foreign car dealership
(Benzes and Saabs) and business is off. Since her family cain't afford
the Hollywood extravaganza she's always dreamed of, she's put it on
hold. Actually, my brother didn't postpone it, it was postponed for
him. The date was perfect for me because it was the middle of Memorial
Day weekend but now it will probably be the day the Dolphins are at
Foxboro or something similarly inconvenient.
2. My cousin's 4 year old daughter decided to make a fashion
statement. Daddy's razor and shaving cream were within reach so she
shaved off her eyebrows.
3. Another brother has a new dog. It's a combination of Labrador
Retriever and of things, Basset Hound. In other words, what he has is
a black puppy with a huge upper body and short, stubby legs. In a
couple of years it may not be able to walk since it won't have any
ground clearance. It is the silliest looking dog I've ever seen.
4. My sister's pregnancy is doing well. She's 4 months along and
doing just fine. My youngest brother keeps asking her how his nephew
is doing. Since she was due two days before the original date of the
wedding mentioned in 1. above, there is at least one person benefitting
from the postponement.
In other words, a fairly typical holiday gathering with the clan.

I mean, I've been so busy that Christmas crept up on my like an F-16

Was over my folks yesterday. My brother had to work yesterday, so it w
was just me and the 'rents. I've been fighting off a cold, so I didn't
feel like having a beer even.
Santa did okay by me.

Spent a nice quiet Christmas Eve at home, which was just what we wanted
after all the running around the prior weekend. No television, just
candles, christmas lights, a mess of shrimp, drinks, and Christmas
Music on the radio.
I swear there must be only around ten minutes of carols they play
before they begin to repeat, albeit a different artist.
Christmas Day was the turkey dinner thang at the in-laws. It was good
to get home relatively early.
All in all, only one day off isn't enough.
Looking forward to that 3-lb. lobster I have on order for New Year's
Eve.

| We usually gather at my Aunt's home, as she's he oldest in the family.
So, it was some 25 people there, aged from 76 to 1 1/2. All my kids,
plus my grandson. Had a wonderful time, little Andrew as reallyd
decked out with real shoes that matched his pants, a white shirt with a
red bow-tie and a black vest with gold buttons. Pretty sharp for a
2-year-old.
Lots of good food, like my sisters pork pie, swedish meatballs, cold
cuts, chicken, kielbasa in a sweet-sour sauce, salads, rice pilaf, and
of course the pickles and olives. Plenty of cold beer.
Desserts were chocolate chip cookies and sugar cookies that my wife
made, my daughter Leslie's unbelievable raspberry turnovers, some of
those little italian puffs with cream and pineapple in them, cakes,
etc.
What a feast.
For Christmas Day, we were at home with 3 of the kids, had a great
baked ham and a VERY quiet day. Got some nice clothes, and some new
toys for the workshop.
One negative, though. This is the first one-day Christmas I can
remember. Just doesn't seem the same since I had to come into the
office.
Oh well, I'm really looking forward to New Years Eve, too. We'll have
Andrew over for the night, and my Christmas present from Leslie and her
husband will be a Lobster feast to go along with the Chinese food we're
bringing in. My Son-in-law is a lobsterman, so I'll be getting my
fill, I'm sure.

| My Christmas was strange. For the 1st time ever (since moving outta
Mom & Dads) I spent x-mas at my house, which is 1st time in 11 years.
Anyway, my folks are going thru a divorce, and in the past my mom
always made the holiday dinners (the folks live here in the springs)
and all the family and friends would go over to my folks house and do
the usual present exchange, pig out and veg while watching the tube.
This year the same family & friends, including my parents, call me
and the wife and said "whats going on this year for x-mas". So me and
the wife decided to have x-mas at our place. Both my parents came with
the understanding that "best behavior" is all that will be tolerated,
so let me tell you, the tension was runnin' high, I was drinkin' like I
had nothin' to lose not to mention having to muster up the guts to
throw out the parent (on christmas day) who would get outta line by
saying something wrong.
My older sister and her hubby are going thru a split up as well, so
of course he shows up from Washington state while my sister is here. I
was suprised to say the least.
Well I ended up getting toasted while everything went well. Some
people showed up that weren't expected, while others didn't that were
expected. The DEC turkey came out great along with all the other food.
Me and the wife spents over $600 on presents, and I actually am not to
stressed over it.
This was the least stressful Christmas that I have ever had including
this "D" thing with my parents & sister. I know that may sound
contradictory (sp?), but things went much better than expected, and
since I only had to buy 5 presents, my "mall crowd" attitude was good.
I'm obviously having grammer problems this morning. Maybe another cup
of sludge would help.
Now it's time for HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

| The difficult part of Christmas and Thanksgiving for me are realizing
that 1. My parents are getting older and it's sort of a year-by-year
proposition now as to whether or not they'll be around for the nexted
year and 2. Having all siblings who are either married or living with
someone (ie, they have that special someone in their lives) while I
don't. We generally don't have any behavior problems to worry about at
the holidays, so that's nothing to worry about. I hate shopping and I
can do some of it by mail, so I try to have it all done as early as I
can. Noon on the day after Thanksgiving is my record.
Being with everyone is OK when I'm with them but there's nothing worse
than driving home alone after being with everyone and realizing there's
only a cold, empty house waiting for me when I get there.

sick 3/4 of the way through the mass and we leave...It didn't bother me at all
because I'm not into the trappings of the catholic church anyway....
Nice dinner and present opening. Betsy got me a toy (remote controlled car)
so I spent the evening chasing the cats around the house with it. We both made
out like bandits and felt bad for the less fortunate seeing all the stuff
around the tree for just the two of us.
Xmas day was mellow..slept late...let the wife sleep even later. Had a nice
breakfast, made a few phone calls to the globetrotting extended family (brother
in law in Germany, brother in law in Kentucky, sister in law in New Jersey,
In-laws in connecticut, brother in Tahoe, Nevada, family gathering in
Western, mass and us in Kirkland, washington)
Then went over our friends (also relocated from Boston and an Ex-deccie who
was smart enough to take the first package) for a nice dinner and talked to
him about his new job being a Seattle Cop...
all-in-all a non-stressful time and the last one we'll spend as a couple...Next
year we'll be opening baby presents saying "look what grandma got you" to a 6
month old who will hae no concenpt of what we're talking about....
anybody got any good names for a boy with my last name..we've got plenty of
girls names but can't agree on any boys names.....

Dan'l,
My fathers name is Ray Metzger....but the wife vetoed that...she's also vetoed
Spike Owen Metzger, Cy Metzger, Ty Metzger and Casey Stengel Metzger....
She's possibly agreed to Nicklaus Metzger but wants to spell it the sissy
way of Nicholas instead of the manly Golden Bear way of Nicklaus...
and Dean is definatly out...
She's also leaning toward Kyle but I'm strongly vetoing that...

Dylan or Dillon take your pick. Joseph or James but definately not Mike. Too
many of us already in the world. Always liked Mattew or name him after our own
beloved MrT aka Thomas....
what I look for in a child's name is one with a few nicknames with to grow up
with. you know like Joey, Joe, Joseph etc....

| Metz,
just make sure that when you pick a name, it's gonna sound good when
the announcer says it on a national TV broadcast or in a sports arena.
I really regret my mother vetoing me getting my father's name. I don't
know if I would have survived grade school with a name like Nufrie, but
I think it would have been way too cool to hear:
"...and swimming in lane 3 for Ohio University, Nufrie Medvid!"
Nothing wrong with Daniel, although it just doesn't have that foreign
flare. Plus I get called David a lot. Hate that.

No Dillon...already been nixed by a higher power...I would choose either James
or Joseph but that combination has already been taken by my brother James Joseph.
The wife likes Matthew but I don't for some reason....My father in law has
already suggested every biblical name available...but it's not his kid and he's
already gotten to name 4 :-)...We'd prefer something a little different...He'd
prefer Luke, matthew, peter or John the Baptist.... :-)
but not as different as Nufrie :-)
I guess it's off to the babynames conference...(I can't believe they have a
whole conference for babynames)
Suggestions appreciated at any time....

I just had the SCARIEST thought....
When you come right down to it, theoretical physics is WAY, WAY out there.
I mean quantum theory and the whole 9 yards. You have to have a
phenomenal mind just to grasp what's already been laid down in that field,
never mind think up new stuff...
So, here's Hawk, a tired bartender-dad-student. He's sitting there
drinking a beer one night after working all day at DEC, going to a 7pm
class, and then bartending for a couple of hours. So, he's sucking
on this beer when it hits him...
Nexted thing you know, kids in school are learning about how Hawk
was sitting drinking a beer when the solution to faster than light
travel came to him....
Crazier than Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure....

Probably woulda figured it out already had he not taken communion in

| Hawk,
Yer too much.
I'd like to have had an independent witness in Church though.
Probably went something like this:
Father: Body of Christ
Hawk (way back in line) Oh Father, shoot me one them Hosties down
down here.
Father: Body of Christ
Hawk (still way back in line) C'mon Father, toss me a Hostie....
Father: Body of Christ
Hawk (getting closer) Awww, Father, can't I cut to the head of the
line!
