84.0. "Get Creative - Mebbe B Seen On TV !!!" by CSTEAM::FARLEY (Have YOU seen Elvis today??) Thu Jan 24 1991 23:04

This is a quickie. Me and MikeC (esteemed Jihad(tm) worshipper)
are gonna be at the CELTIC-Faker(tm) game this Sunday (courtesy
of my 'significant-other' giving me tickets for my 40th B'day.

I'm mulling over a banner to hang over 1st balcony, Sec. 68,
with some kind of "catch yer eye" stuff to get the TV guys to
    notice this special event.

So far I've thought of things related to:

    		Jihad
    		Holy Green Sweat Socks
    		Jimmy Clang

but I know youz folks are more creative than I and I'd like you
    to help me (us) out.

What I'm proposing is a barrage of input of ideas with words,
pictures, special "LDUC" community ideas so you can share the moment
(somehow) with MikeC and I, to be considered for the "banner".

I'd really appreciate ideas and suggestions from each of you on
what might be on our banner and - for those designers among us -
what it might look like (mebbe a format?)

This is a VERY special event for me, as I have not been to the Gahden
since 1983 and in my whole life I've only gone to 2 Celtic games.
     :^(

For 2+ years I've enjoyed following this conference, occasionally
obtaining true sports facts (:^)) and in a small way, I'd like
to do something to balance the scales. We have developed our
own private lingo et al and I'd like to solicite your ideas
to (somehow) dazzle the TV guys to get the banner shown and
have you, the unfortunate tv audience-who-can't-be-there-while-you-
wait-for-the-super-bowl-to-start, feel that you're a part of the
    fun at least in spirit!

I'll only have part of Saturday to make the banner. Therefore,
by the end of the work day (Friday), this thing's over. I'm sure
that because it IS a Friday, you lunatics will do a good job providing
    me (us) with great ideas!!!

Anybody know what network is doing the national tv broadcast??

High probability that if NBC has the game and the banner has CBS
or vice-versa, the banner will be avoided.

Assuming I get permission (according to DEC P&P) from MikeC, I think
you'd like to see the exchange of messages between Mike and I, whereby
I extended the invite to accompany me to the GAME, for your enjoyment
I'll put them here too. They are cute...

NBC has the game, not CBS. I don't know where your section is in
relation to the TV cameras, but I haven't seen many banners at Celtics
games lately. I think they may be banned.

I would definitely try to work in some (if not all) of the following:

	Film at 11

	SPORTshrooms

	YU R TOO BLAM

	Chainsaw LOVES Kelly Bundy

I want a James Worthy Lunch Special

	America: Leave it to Beaver!

That should provide the seeds of a fine banner....8^)

Honestly, if ya think about it Holy Green Sweat Socks would get
ya camera time. It has a fervid message, yet is delivered on a
    boyish platform.

I'd strongly recommend against using the word "jihad" anywhere in
the United States right now (outside of a Nation of Islam meeting,
that is). You're gonna have trouble getting air time cuz the networks
are trying to outdo one another with the triumphalism theme and that
means WAR SIGNS (did you see those Buffalo fans? I didn't, all I saw
    was pro-war cardboard).

Here's a_idea: Operation Celtic Storm. Or maybe: Celtic Patriots Down
Incoming SCUDs. Or: Operation Parquet Swarm.

On the peace time front I suggest: Old Magic... or Laker Faker?

ABC has the SuperBore so you cain't do any logo baiting.

Good luck, I'll be looking for ya Kev.

well the banner looked great unfortunely the confiscated it before we went
in. Reasoning: We can't have pro-war banners in here because then we would have
to allow anti-war banners to be shown also. Like hey Big Brother as soon as
you arrive you better step on the people Big Brother and negate their minds.

 anyway it said

NBC and we salute the troops
            and the
        NEXTED(tm) WORld Champions
	Boston Celtics

and on the sides where a bunch of lumninaries from in here's name with the
leader of the BIRD Jihad JD at the top ;^)

 the back side said

		Suddam Hussien
                U' R' to BLAM(TM)...

too bad you guys would have know it was us for sure....

we still had a great time even though the wrong team won....

84.26Kev and Mike's Great Adventure.....CST17::FARLEYHave YOU seen Elvis today??Tue Jan 29 1991 09:1476
Without going into a description of the not-nice game (except glenn
might disagree:*(, here's how it went.

First, Mikey showed up at my house :32 minutes late! We arrived
at the Gahden around 11:00 and parked in the rear, had a libation
or two ($3.00ea inside!!!!) and then went inside to see the players
    shoot around.

I had my carefully made, super duper banner all ready to go and
carried it in under my arm. After 3 days of planning, remembering
to bring string and other stuff to attach it, inside we went. No
sooner had we gone through those 3 armed gate thingies, the Gahden
gestapo had us in their grasp. "NO BANNERS ARE ALLOWED, sir!!!
and may I see what's in the bag?"

"But", I said, "it isn't offensive, it's just a banner", as I proceeded
to unfurl my 5' x 5' recycled mattress sheet. "Look"

    There, the GG observed a magnificent banner which looked like this;

   			 N B C + W E |Kev
    		      S A L U T E O U R |Mike
                    T R O O P S A N D T H E |MrT
                   N E X T E D (tm) W O R L D |JH
                  C H A M P S R B O S T O N |Nazz
                         C E L T I C S |RCaso
    				              |'Saw
    					      |Chris

(Also had other names but don't remember them right now and the
order of names here may/may not be exactly the same)

Top-half was in BRIGHT flourescent orange and the bottom + names
    were in green.

While impressed, the GG confiscated the banner mumbling some crap
about equal points of view and opposing messages. Then they took
away our masterpiece and told us we could have it back after the
    game.
So, with tears in our eyes........

We got all the way down to the parquet and watched McHale and Stoyko
and somebody else I don't know just shoot. Security was all around
the floor but I stepped onto the holy ground and called to McHale
to come over but he didn't hear me so I called over to Stoyko and
gestured for him to come over for a picture. He nodded, stopped
shooting and came over. I gave Mike the high-tech point and shoot
no brainer camera and stood next to Stoyko. Sheesh, that is one
tall dude (especially from my perspective). Mike (almost) did what he
was supposed to do but he somehow turned off the flash so we had
    to repeat the pic.
FWIW, I think the top o' my haid mebbe made it to his bottom rib!

We hung around the floor for a while, hoping that maybe lady luck
would allow us to stay on the floor and see the game but as it got
closer to gametime, the GG started "escorting" folks outa there.

Mike wasn't orgyastic about sitting in the nose-bleed seats and
recommended that we got to one of his favorite spots where, he was
sure, we could park and see the game undisturbed. He was right.
Without telling *exactly* where the seats were, lemme tell ya that
they were ~19 rows above the court.

And the rest y'all don't wanna be bored wif.

As a side comment, while this was a very special occasion, and I'm
glad Mike was with me, I gotta say that for most of the game, I
thought I was in a morgue! No electricity, no (really very little)
cheering. It was a bit of a downer....
I'm glad that my love of college BBall was justifiably re-inforced.

    either.
