| Boomer really wants back into the Super Bowl in a bad way. He
knows he choked big-time two years ago and I have the feeling that
next time around he's gonna go out and do his thing and not be so
tentative and play a little mean - 49ers or no 49ers.
At this point, with the huge surge the Bengals OL is providing, the
Bengals look like the AFC's best ticket in the Supe. Either them
or the Raiders, maybe the Raiders with their D, but maybe the Bengals
with their O, but my vote right now goes with the Bengals, although
the injuries could change all that.

| With the Cinci line thinner than last year (Montoya left) and banged up
(Reimer and Munoz both hurting), with the defense at best inconsistent,
with their most dynamic offensive player questionable (Brooks), I don't
think Boomer at his best will make the Bengals anything more than fodder
for the 49ers or Giants.
But if Kelly comes back strong for the Bills (has practiced, but not on
schedule to play this Sunday), Buffalo is the AFC's best shot at the
Super Bowl.
Raiders can't be, unless they get a good QB.

| I disagree with your prediction,i think it will be a close one
no more than 7 points either way.The Bengal defense also are playing
their best football of the season, the key for the Mighty Bengals
to win is getting their running game going, and stopping BO BO
and Marcus Allen who tends to be overlooked.I was wondering did
you enjoy the 2 maulings the Tigers gave the Squeelers,i did.
I agree with your statement the Mighty Bengals are inconsistent
but their still the best in the Central.

A gutsy performance though, they held the Faiders until late in the

good pass rushers for next year because their lacking in that
department. With Sam at the helm and that great offence the Bengals
are one of the most exciting teams in football.

He was a high Jets pick (#2?) about 4 years ago, and as always, the
high water mark for him was seen as a Lawrence Taylor type. Has all
the tools -> speed, strength, played the run, pass, etc. But little
injuries would keep him out a long time, and when he got on the field
he not only didn't make the big plays, but he missed a lot of little
ones. Label him a disappointment for the Jets, who let him go plan B a
year ago, where he signed with the Raiders. Never heard much from him
there, so I wasn't surprised that they let him go too.

| Kev, we weren't watching the same game since you didn't see the series
of events at the end of the game:
- Lofton burns rookie DB badly and rookie does a B-movie grade
acting job to try to get an offensive interference call.
When he doesn't get the call he goes haywire. Sam, convinced
by this kid's act, walks onto the field to confront the officials
in the endzone.
- Sam gets in shoving match with his own assistant coach and
a few of his players.
- Lofton on the ground after a catch, defender taunts him and
then kicks him while he is laying on the ground. Wasn't much
of a kick, but certainly unnecessary and defender gets tossed
for doing so.
- Buffalo kick returner is tackled and while on his back, Bengals
tackler delivers a headbut.
- Lofton walking back to the huddle after a play toward the end
of the game and gets a shove for no apparent reason by two Bengals.
Truly the signs of a team in disarray. Wyche has no control over
himself let alone his team.

First off the kicking incident was so minor it was ridiculous.
Would it have been called against the home team? It appeared Lofton
was also saying something while on his back. The taunting was going
both ways. It was the Bengal player that was stupid enough to "brush"
him with his leg in front of everyone that caused the penalty. A case
of a veteran player drawing a penalty against a rookie.
As for the head tap. It would have barely cracked an egg. That too
appeared to be little more than emphatic taunting.
The bills had a penalty called on them also for shoving so it wasn't as
one-sided as the three stooges in the booth implied. They were so
blinded it was disgusting. Dierdork is the absolute worst, but even
AL MICHAELS, was being sucked in.
No, it wasn't a pretty game, and the officials had to call things close
to keep things under control. But its so easy to bash the visiting
team, especially when their playing the gods from Buffalo.
As for Sam Wyche and the Bengals - at least they have some spirit. They
let the Bills know that they weren't going to play patsie and be
intimidated. After watching my Packers go meekly down to defeat
against da Bears and play with no heart at all, it was a pleasure to
see a good team fighting mad about their 0-7 fate.

Oh, did I forget to mention the 6 yard GIFT on the kick-off which went

But I digress.... the REFS(thingie) made Boomer throw that third down

IMO, the Bengals never had it to have taken away. The REFS(thingie)
merely copied the Bengals ineptitiude to make them feel comfortable

| There is a great difference between being a fighting mad
non-intimidated team and the team Cinci had out there last night.
The Bengals were disgusted with their record, the game, and the refs
and thus let that disgust manifest itself in uncalled for conduct.
There's no room in professional or amateur sports for actions like
those displayed by players and a certain head coach last night.
Also, I agree that the kicking incident and the headbutt were minor,
but still they were superfluous unsportsmanlike actions that cause
nothing but continued animosity and unnecessary aggression. The refs
tried to stay in control by flagging everything, but when the coach of
the team himself is out of control, how do you control his players?
I used to have a bit of respect for Wyche and his innovative football,

I know I have...... Got thrown out of a flag footbal game a while
back for drilling the ref with the ball !!! The guy was making
bad calls all day and told me to shut up or I was out so I shut up.
Then I sent a guy across the middle and accidently miss the reciever and
drilled the zebra in the back of the head, It was pretty funny !!
As for last nights game...... I think the Tigers got a bad shake
from the zebras.... I'm not saying they would have, or even could have
won this game but the Zebras were terrible. The only thing worse than
the Tigers and the Zebras was Dan DeerDork and the other two stooges.
What a bunch of A**holes those the are. I made a vow lasted(TM) night
that I will mute all MNF games from now on and listen to the radio
announcer call the game. I say the Tigers got screwed, the Bill's are
not the best team in the AFC (more like third behind the Soilers and
Chiefs) The Zebras are are as bad on MNF as they are in the Worldly
Serious and the Three Stooges (Al,Frank and the blimp) should be fired
and never allowed to speak in public again.
Good Luck Sam!!!

| Theses two teams went at it like they hate each other or something.
Cincy was way out of controll, specially during the later stages of the
game. But the Bills were contributing their share also. Right from
the opening kickoff, one of the BILLS made a point to bump the reciever
after a touchback. That incident started a pushing match, and it went
on from there.
The penalty calling was very inconsistant. But it must be difficult to
watch the play with fights breaking out all the time.
I'm glad the DB got thrown out. Yes it was a wimpy kick, and yes
Lofton gave him a discrete push in the groin, but the DB had no
business standing over him and taunting either. I wish they would
throw a flag more often.
Buffalo seem like they were deliberately antaginizing a team close to
the edge.

| re MacNeal
My comment was for two reasons:
- During the 1st quarter the Bills dished out as much abuse as the
Bengals. Only further into the game did the Bengals get really
out of hand.
- Both teams did far more extra curicular activity than is normal
for an average NFL game.
As far as taunting/celibrating. My personal opinion is that the NFL
for large part penalizies the celibration (mostly harmless) and ignores
much of the actual taunting going on.
For instance, when is the last time you saw a celibration penalty on the
Defense? Yet from the narrow view availalbe to the TV set, the defense
is doing at least of the taunting. Some DBs seem to live to mouth-off.

Wrong, as recently as last year Tim Harris of the Packers was still
doing a corriagraphed (?) dance after every sack. It was definetly the

I like Wyche. I think he's a breath of fresh air as far as coaching
goes, trying his best to add some excitement to the game by assualting
stodgy coaching practices. I mean, how can you not love a guy who
revenges Levy's hypocritical theft of his no-huddle offense by coming
back with exactly the opposite (looo0ng huddle)! Too bad the offense
wasn't there to score the points, but the coaching was inspired.
But, he probably did go overboard on MNF. Too bad and sad to see.
As far as the Three MNF Clowns, they were disgusting. The slobbered on
and on about how great Buffalo was. The would gush over a Buffalo blocked
pass, after totally ignoring 3 Cincy interceptions in a row (except to keep
saying over and over how Cincy "squandered" their opportunities).
I loathe them, and I'm sick their "how can anyone in the world not
agree with our insightful analysis of that play" condescending attitude.
Buffalo: now, definitively, the smuggest team in the NFL. I can't
wait for New England to pummel them. I may hate them even more than
I hate Houston now, who I'd love to see get creamed by Cincy next week.

Not suprised as the Bungholes mgt is considered one of the cheapest

Cincinnati is a tough franchise to work for in that they are low

Subject: Bengals waive Ickey Woods; sign Brian Brennan
CINCINNATI (UPI) -- Ickey Woods, who scored 15 touchdowns as a rookie
and made the ``Ickey Shuffle'' famous in 1988, was waived Wednesday by
the Cincinnati Bengals after three injury-filled seasons.
The Bengals also signed wide receiver Brian Brennan, who was waived
Monday by the Cleveland Browns.
Woods helped the Bengals to the Super Bowl in the 1989 season with 1,
066 rushing yards, but suffered a serious left knee injury in the second
game of the 1989 season and gained only 459 yards since then. He also
missed half of last season with a right knee injury.
Woods became a sensation during his rookie season not only for his
success as a rusher but for the end zone dance he would do after
touchdowns, called the ``Ickey Shuffle.''
Brennan accepted a $515,000 contract to join the Bengals after
spending eight seasons with their AFC Central rival Cleveland Browns.
Brennan caught 31 passes for 325 yards in 1991 for the lowest yardage
total of his career. His best season was in 1986 when he caught 55
passes for 838 yards and 6 TDs.

put the Bengals in the cellar. Browns and Steelers will probably both
be above .500 and the only way the Oilers will slip down that far is if
Moon gets hurt.

| No comments about the Sincinatti Bengals? 20 players have been named
in a civil suit involving the alleged rape of a woman in Seattle last
year. The woman didn't press charges initially. I think that's a bit
strange and somewhat sad. By filing a civil suit instead of criminal
proceedings she sets herself up for criticism as a gold digger.

| Since it was a civil and not a criminal case, the local press has named her and
given a brief personal history on her (twice divorced mother of 4 and a history
of being a NFL groupie). The local press and TV/radio have also just had a
field day with this splashing it all over the front page and headlining TV
news. They have also played up the racial aspect since all 20-odd named Bengals
were black and the woman was white.
Most scenarios that I've read said that she might have said "yes" to the first
2-3 guys, and then things got completely out of hand. Trying to convince a jury
that she consented to the first few, but the last 10-15 were rape would be hard
indeed.
By going the civil route, her case becomes trying to get monetary damages and
no jail terms. It also changes from the criminal "beyond reasonable doubt" to
"a preponderance of evidence", i.e. there can be some doubt and still win the
case.
The fact is is that some debauchery happened. But there are degrees of
depravity. Immoral and sordid, yes. Illegal, well, that's what the courts will
try to determine.

Ack. My point (and evidently I didn't make it clear) was that the press has
been doing its best to do an absolute smear job on this person.

Again, ack. I was trying to portray what the current climate that exists here
in the press/TV/radio.
Bruce (who has first hand knowledge of both topics since a contributing factor
to him divorcing his first wife was the aftermath of her being raped).

Let's get the pronunciation correct... it's:
"Who dey, who dey, who dey tink gun beat dem Bengals"
"Who dey, who dey, who dey tink gun beat dem Bengals"
"Who dey, who dey, who dey tink gun beat dem Bengals"
etc., etc., ad nauseum.
Seems that I've heard it around the NFL (New Orleans?) but it did originate in
Cincinnati.
