Principal Information Systems Specialist, Customer Services Warehouse,
Westboro (moving to MRO1 in February). Resident of Clinton.
Avid Supporter: The New England Patriots (it's not just an adventure,
it's a job), The University of Massachusetts, St John's Prep (Danvers)
and Syracuse University football (as long as Coach Mac Pherson is
there). Have a strong enjoyment for reading, the music of the Gershwin
Brothers, the late/great Sarah Vaughan, Benny Goodman and Glenn Miller.
Strong Supporter: The Boston Bruins, The Boston Celtics, The Boston
Red Sox, college hockey in general. The only other team I really like
is the Chicago Black Hawks, and that's mostly because of their uniforms
(my favorite in all sports) and their arena and fans. Enjoy the works
of people like Bill James and Pete Palmer but never forget the games
are more important than the numbers and realize there are things that
can never be proven; yet at the same time I realize that these works
have a lot of value and have helped focus and sharpen thinking about
sports.
Lukewarm/Indifferent: Ratholes about the relative merits of college
basketball conferences, college basketball in general,
rotisserie/fantasy leagues, Lisa Olson, most non-sports TV shows, MVP
debates, Halls of Fame.
Strong Dislike: The University of Connecticut, Holy Cross, Notre Dame
and the NCAA. I also don't like autograph hunters and the obsession
with sports collectibles. I also disagree with those who put athletes
on a pedestal because they're human beings, just like you and me.
Extremely Strong Dislike: Boston College
Nicknames: The Ninja, due to my infamous dismembering of a beachball
at Patriots Day, 1990. The Apostrophe Police, due to my excessive
dislike for misplaced apostrophes, ie, Bogg's (sic).
Role in file: Research librarian, argument settler, number cruncher.

Indifferent about: Most college sports, NBA and NHL until the real season

I love comedy, and try to see as much standup as I can, either live

to have it remain a dream than to see just how much work and pain is
really involved!

Likes: Anything to do with Buffalo. Needless to say I like the Bills
and Sabres. I also am hoping that when the Major League
expands, they realize that Buffalo is a great baseball town.
What will probably happen is that they will go with a more
"glamorous" city (Denver, Tampa...). What a shame, Buffalo
shattered the minor league attendance record and have one of the
best ball parks (Pilot's field).
I also like (love) my wife, two children (soon to be three) and
homebrewing.
Dislikes : The Dolphins, Bruins, Flyers, Bears, Bengals, intestinal
disorders and radio announcers who say, "...it's 8:45 AM,
that's quarter to nine in the morning...". NO SHOOT!! I
can tell time.
Duty in life : Keep an eye on Frank (aka 'saw) for two reasons.

Frank has a lot of wool on his clothing, also. It keeps rubbing off

I'm Mike JN
I forgot what the JN stands for, but I'm sure it has something to do
with my love of Sports, and my total hatred of any subject which might
depart from a Sports Topic within the Sports Notesfile.
Speaking of Sports... I ended up having a film festival over the
holidays, and the one's (this apostrophe is for you Ninja) I liked best
were `Total Recall' and `Pretty Woman'.
LIKES: I like it when we put this huge piece of visqueen down on the
floor (it has to be big enough to extend part way up the walls, also).
Then we pour a couple gallons of Mazola oil on it, and all the women,
plus me, gets naked and goes sliding around and generally having a good
time.
DISLIKES: Those little bitty tiny tiny gnats that you can't even hardly
see. And in the summertime they fly around... whole clouds of `em. When
they land on you, if you smack `em, they just make a little black smear,
and they can fly right up your nose and make you sneeze, and they get in
your eyes, and hair, and everything.... god, I hate when that happens.

Well, first I'd like to welcome Sid Snyder and Jim Boyd, two RON's who
have signed in for the first time. Glad to have you guys aboard.
Likes? Detroit Tigers, Celtics, Notre Dame, Raiders, 49'ers, any team
that beats the Jets-Bills-any team from Miami.
Dislikes? Yankmees, of course, any N.Y. team.
Hates? Bo Shmucbeckler for what he's doing to my Tigers and Ernie. Bob
Trumphy for everything he says. Chris Schenkel for his Giant crap back
in the 50's, Bob Costas for his first-hand knowledge of things that
occurred before he was born!
What do I love about Sports-notes? The guys in here who make me do
some things that I don't like, like actually think about certain teams
that DO play above the norm but that I just don't like for whatever
reasons. Guys in here who make me laugh over absolutely silly things,
like Hawk and MJ (them no-see-ems are pure hell). The usually friendly
banter between fans of opposing teams.
What I don't like are ratholes that turn into personal attacks.
What do I miss? Dinz, Hoot, Monty, Jack Hunter, and the sometimes
totally absurd and fanatical Donk notes that used to occur in here.
What do I NOT miss? That damn Jets newsletter that Wardle used to send
out.
Happy noting, everyone.

Well, your Seahawks have a coach famous for that, Choke Knox.
When he used to coach the Bills, that's what we used to call him.
He seems to be able to bring a team up to a certain level, usually the
1st round of the playoffs, then he chokes. He did it for the Rams,
Bills and Seahawks.

Dislike Detroit (in general), LameBeer and his buddies in particular,

What I hate about sports notes files, is nit picking about spelling

What I like most about sports notes file's is ruffling over rated

I try to follow baseball in most of its incarnations, particularly the
National League. In the majors, I generally root for the Orioles and Cubs in
the east, Dodgers and Twins in the west, but I mostly just love the game.
In other sports, I like Lakers and the Bears, although I put up with the
Nuggets and Broncos. I'm also a Capitols fan.
No particular nicknames, although MrT once tagged me with "Cookie" in one of
the fits of hysteria to which he is prone and it stuck.
My only dislikes are the Detroit Pistons and endless discussions about what's
wrong with the Sports notesfile.

Yes, I have.
Viciously fast game, played with a ball slightly smaller than a volleyball.
Similar layout to that of a soccer field.
You can dribble (I think, if I remember correctly), pass the ball, and
the object is to try to get it into the goal by throwing it in.
I saw a tournament once on the SKY Sports channel. Very interesting!
Hugo, can you tell us more?

Re-1
As you say Team Handball is very fast and can be a bit physical also.
I spent 6 months on a Army demo team back in the early 70's. We went
all over Kansas and played games before school kids and the like. The
National team was just being formed, and never did win much . The
Europeans have been playing it for some time and do quite well.
If I remember correctly the team is made of of 7 counting the goalie.
Our coach's idea of a great team would be the following
2 Long Jumpers for Wings
2 Middle Linebackers for Circle Runners
2 Point Guards for the Playmaker
1 Soccer Goalie
I played Circle Runner myself, This guy is suppose to move back and
forth around a half moon outside of the goal. The guard's and wings
pass the ball back and forth and on occassion would drop it into the
circle. The circle runner either returns it back or crashes through the
guys guarding you and dives toward the goalie letting fly with the ball
at maximum velocity. Bounching off those gym floors is sooo much fun!!
The fast break was a goalie's nightmare. These guys get going and once
you get to the last circle strip, they leap forward toward and damn
near on top of the goalie trying to jam it into the goal.

My big love has always been hockey, although I like football tremendously as

tennis, squash, basketball, football, soccer, hockey, and even cricket get
turns when I feel like it.
This is a great conference for me as it helps me keep a little bit up to
date with home so when I visit every year I still have a clue what's going on.
Also, the quality of the junk noting is exceptionally high, and that's always
good for a laugh!

2.168 | Pittsburgh kind a guy | GOBUCS::COOLEY | The Pittsburgh Fan in D.C. | Mon Jun 03 1991 18:42 | 23 |
| Hi,
I'm a software spec in EIS out of the DCO office in Landover, MD.
Nodenames: GOBUCS or GOPENS!
I was raised in the 'burgh so I love all their teams. I don't really root for
any other teams (You can take the kid of out Pittsburgh...).
My main dislikes are Penn State (Joe Pa's lost it), Flyers (Two months of golf
while the Pens were taking the Cup - I love it), the NBA,
and various other Pittsburgh foes - Mets, Browns, Raiders, etc.
I'm also growing a strong dislike of the Redskins.
I went to school in Philly at Penn (Not Penn State) so even though I hate
Philly with a passion, I like the Big-5 schools in basketball. Now in the
D.C./Baltimore area in Laurel, MD. I kind of like the O's (cause they always
lose to the Bucs in the W.S.?). And I'm hoping for a N.L. team in D.C. -
although it looks grim right now.
I'm mostly a read-only noter but will stick up for the 'burgh when needed.
Therefore, I'm signing in due to the recent misguided and moronic attack
on the greatest Sports City and City Of Champions: Pittsburgh, PA.

Hi,
I'm an Indiana boy lost here in Mass. Being from Indiana and
raised Catholic, I have strong loyalties to Notre Dame football and
Indiana University basketball. Of course, I also follow the Colts.
I have many sports interests, watching and playing. Right now I'm
coach/pitcher of a softball team. My team has one more game of the
regular season, and if we win, we end the season in first.
I've been reading the notes for some time now. I own a Fantasy
Football Franchise, and I've been trying to get the scoop on possible
sleeper players to draft. Draft day is this Saturday. . . I'm going
to try to get all the Cleveland players I can!!! ;^)
But, the real reason I'm signing on is. . . I work with Mr
Whitehair, and I would like to get in on the Hal bashing. Is there any
room left on the "bashing team"?

Oh, nice thing for my coach to say Aeeee? He only says that
because Ohio State kicked Indiana's butt up and down the basketball
court last year. Boy, if you guys only knew how many times I saved
his butt in several of the games this year.
As far as the "Hal bashing"....I told him that you guys arn't
bashing me.....its Cleveland your bashing. You guys (especially
Jake) are so jellous of the Browns and Bernie, that you attack
anything from Cleveland or the area.
Anyway, welcome to the Browns Bandwagon Gary. He won't admit
it but he likes the Browns as much as I do.
Poor guy though......getting married next month. She packs
him *such* nice lunches. The guy even gets flowers sent to work.
He looked like a tomato walking down the hall the other day.
He even thinks he can pitch.... :-)

Mark, thanks for the welcome. Sorry you don't care for Notre Dame,
I take it your team loses to them often. :^)
Hal, first time you've made sense today. Yes, OSU beat up on IU,
but like that Carolina team I hear so much about, they still choked
with an excess of talent. Talking about my pitching. . . it's a good
thing you included a :^), cause we both know what happened when "Walkem
Home Hal" gave his attempt at throwing the ball toward home plate.
(notice I never said pitch). And of course I like the Browns. When
you're a Colts fan, you have to appreciate those teams that you can
beat. Besides Hal, we're not realy bashing you. We are merely
pointing out all of your misguided opinions and short comings in an
attempt to make you a better person and more aware fan. Unfortunately,
we have our work cut out for us.
Hawk, bring on the 'cane bashing. . . even though it's not as much fun
since JJ went to lead the Cowpokes.

a few disfunctional synapses! In fact, this was brought out in the

How I spent my summer vakation.....by BoB
Boy oh boy it was lots of fun. First I went to NY NY where we went to
see MAdsion square garden where the NY Rangers not the Texas RAngers
play at. Then we was going to go to Yankee statdium to see the Yankees
play the Rangers from TExas not the ones from MAdison squre garden play
but my friend got sick so we coudnt go. But then there was some
guy running around the subways stabbing people witha screwdrivers. There
was lots of funny people in the subways but none of them were laughing
so I didnt either. THEn I went to Pencilvania where I alsmost got a
hole in one but I had to get a hole in 2 instead. Then we came back here
so I said I would do lots and lots of hiking so I did. But I put my foot
right in front of a rattlsnak. Boy did I scare him. HA HA! But I had to
quit hiking so I could go to LAs Vegas and win lots and lots of money.
I bet on baseball and thought how stupid PEte Rose was because its sooo
hard to bet on baseball. So then we left LAs Vegas but still got out of
town with our shorts. We were in such a hurry to get back we got stoped
by the Utah hiway police but he let us go cause wer were only doing 70
and we said we wouldn do that no more. HA HA! And then I did all kinds
of other stuff two and it surewas a lot of fun so I think i will do
it again some other time like next summer maybe.

How is IU doing in soccer this year? They seem to always have a strong
soccer program. Isn't the Dolphins' kicker( Stroyanovich -sp?) an ex-IU

| The Hoosiers have been ranked in the top 5 in the soccer polls all
season. They won the Big Ten tournament last week, earning a bye in the
first round of the NCAAs. They'll be playing a home game against either
Evansville or Wisconsin shortly (this weekend?) as their first tournament
game.
Evansville knocked them out of the NCAAs last year, and Wisconsin
beat them earlier this season to snap their consecutive games without a
loss streak against Big Ten schools at 67 or 68.

Yes, each spring after my Wahoos wrap up their disappointing hoops season,
I usually settle in for yet another underachieving Virginia lacrosse team's
non-efforts. They've pulled in a coupla lax titles but they're ancient
history. Seems like every year, they finish in the top 5 or so but bow
out quickly in the tournament.
Lax is a fun sport. Perfect for a spring day on a nice college campus.

| Kim Rivers, Sports Bimbo.
(Did I value my own Difference?) ;)
Presently, I work at the Artificial Intelligence Technology Center
(AITC, cleverly enuf) in Marlboro. I commute from CT. My favorite
seafood is crab, I drive a green Samurai DeathTrap, and....
Oh. Right. Sports.
I've read this conference for a while (usually with someone to help out
with the big words), but don't reply often because I can't compete with
the sheer knowledge and literary fortitude of the usual contributors.
But now that I've completed my course in See n Spell, I thought I'd
introduce myself.
My favorite sport is horse racing, in it's varied forms. Not enough
tracks around here, not like (set mode/attitude=snob) California.
I also enjoy baseball, footyball, and even like hockey. No teams
around here I can 'get behind' though, probably because I'm not a
native and also because I live a nice equi-distant way from Boston and
Hartford, and for that matter, NY. I shall never like NY teams,
though. I took an oath.
I tend to favor teams hailing from my beloved city, San Diego, CA.
I hate all LA teams, especially the Raiders.
I like other sports, too. (she said, brightly)
Ice Skating (it's a sport! An Art! Sport! Art! Sport! Art!)
Fencing. (White picket is my favorite....)
Archery.
Equestrian Sports. (Quarter Horse Bungie Jumping)
I love sailboats and sailing, although the races tend to be less than
riveting to watch. ("Ah, yes, Jack, the boat is STILL moving right
along, on the water. Back to you.")
I like autoracing and have a secret desire (not so secret now) to drive
a car really, really fast and not get a ticket for it. Drag racing is
pretty cool. Not too many other ways to get yourself a quarter mile
down the road in 4 seconds.
Bowling. (Some comedian said once that announcers for bowling much be
bored. "So, Bob, what do you think Earl Anthony will do now?"
::pause:: "Uh, I think he'll try to knock the pins down, Will. Back
to you.") I think Candlepin bowling looks silly, but I would never
tell anyone with one of those little balls in their hand that while
standing at the other side of the alley. I seen 'em. They can throw
those things hard. :)
Golf. Harder than it looks, which is nice to say about any gent--er,
sport. 08) But seriously, for a sport where you walk everywhere, it
seems like fun.
Sports I don't like:
Boxing. (Big thugs, hammering it out and making ridculous sums of
money to do so. I guess I'm just jealous.)
Basketball. (Too much scoring. Hmm. Again, must be jealous ;))
There are many sports which I am neutral about. Volleyball. Ping
Pong. Greyhound Bungie Jumping (not to be mixed up with QH Bungie
Jumping which is much more exciting). Yahtzee. Things like that.
There are some sports which I have been known to participate in:
Archery. Yes, I can and have shot a bullseyes, but the farmer was not
happy.
Bowling. I was good at this once. Once.
Fencing. Best left to Musketeers, although for a grand moment, I felt
like an overweight Douglas Fairbanks, Sr. in drag.....
Tetris. My workstation keeps beating me. But I like sadistic GPXs
and I keep coming back to it.....must be my upbringing.
Thus concludes my introduction.

| Thanks for the greetings.
But I still hate NY teams. Okay, NYC teams. Even those that try to
pretend they're not really NYC teams by sneaking over the boarder into
Jersey. It's all the same city, we know it. You can't fool me!
Alas, I have not been in San Diego for years. ::sniff, sniff::
I truly miss it. Balboa Park, the Zoo, Sea World, The Embarcadero,
Mission Bay, the Mexican's making passes at me, the lack of trees, the
F-14's doing touch and gos at Miramar NAS and shaking the windows of my
house....
Didn't see one Tom Cruise or Kelly McGillis when I went there for the
airshows. Do you think maybe it was all make believe?
Anyway, it's been a long time.
So long, in fact, that I don't even know what Foggy's Notion is! (you
could say...I haven't the foggiest notion, ar ar ar Uh, yeah. Stick
to being a bimbo, I know.)
Anyway, it's a beautiful place, and I encourage all to visit, but
dammit, stop moving there. California will fall into the sea, not
because of earthquakes, but because of the sheer weight of the nation
building houses upon it so they can STEAL what we native Californians
so rightly deserve! Just to fix all of you, I packed up and moved
east! Bwah hah hah!
(and if that doesn't prove I'm stupid, I don't know what will. ;)

| I just re-read kim's introduction (again) and I truly admire her/your
style.
I guarrantee that if kim becomes a regular, there will be a radical
change in the way notes are written ::pause:: or typed!
;^)
I also have an opion(tm) that classifying her as a member of a food
group is wrong. Meat is an out of the closet Snuffer main! Kim's
sports preferences (as a group of her tastes) aren't even close to
qualifying (in here) as a munchie so I'd like to suggest that her
intro be re-analyzed for possible nicknames.
Off my (short) haid, I think these might be considered:
U Shoes (or "U" for short) to reflect her Mr. Ed and horsie thing
Nut - She DOES live in Connecticut (the NUTmeg State) and her intro
might be another indicator ;^)
Picket - (or Pick) to reflect her "Fencing" interest
ABABE - (a babe - obviously) and it could be "Anti-Babe" to reflect
a certain Yankmee(tm) and her feelings towards NY teams
I still don't know how to cope with her apparent geographical problems
though. LOUIEEEE and St. John's are located in Queens - a borough of
NYC. I read into her "slight" concession that *Maybe* LOUIEEE and
St. John's would be OK if they weren't NYC and she thought they weren't
(like SorryExcuse or Buffalo).........
I dunno....I'm wondering.....Has Kim spent some time with MrT studying
geography?...Is she a "plant" (or some kind of literary metaphore
appearing to be nice but is the Debil(tm) in disguise?
I remain,
wondering if/when/can she go boating with dan'l

Hey 'saw, so you moved to SPO. I'm in Bld 104/B (right next to
plant staff). You'll have to stop by. I know you're in 102/B but where?

We're in 102-2. I'm way at the end up near the corner of Amory and
State Street, if that's any help....
Stop by!

1. Yes, I'm in CT still.
2. No, I'm not in Enfield. I live in the NE corner of the state,
now, strategically placed in about equidistant drives from Hartford,
Providence and Worcester. However, getting to Hartford takes about
twice as long as getting to the other two places simply because it
hasn't dawned on anybody in CT to build an East-West highway of any
decent length or size. (and yes, in highways, it's the size AND length
that count!)
3. I'm glad I didn't get the job in the old ENO plant because they up
and moved to Springfield too. The plant is OK for an ex-armory, but
the bright 70's decor is a little startling at times. (it's been a
couple years, they may have changed it -- the cubes where bright orange
and brown when I saw them. Yow.)
Cheers,
kimBO

I hear you. That's why getting to Providence can be such a tough thing
for me. When we went to play them last fall, it seemed to take FOREVER
going out Route 6. If you get stuck behind some old lady who wants to
do 30 mph, forget it, it'll take you all day to find a spot to pass her.

We brought our offices with us, so the spot looks pretty decent.
Actually, most of ENO just up and closed, and lots of people got the
package I think.
From what I've heard they still haven't sold the building there either.

Hey 'saw, Bld. 102-2 is locked!! I guess you guys don't want to
give us regualars access to all those high-tech brainwaves floating
about. I checked the directory listing next to the cardreader in the
connector and your name was nowhere to be found. So, what gives? I
try to come by for a visit, and it's like a prision over there.

It's late, I'm tired and I got a ton of things to finish but I felt
this is important.
There a some open req's. in my group, the Competitive Sales Group

Good group, work's hard but it's fun helping the sales force win.
IMO, job security is very good.
I don't think there's relo.

| Over the last couple of months I've been following the public access
conferences over the world wide network (not sure what it's called) and
being in those conferences has made me appreciate this one a lot more.
Those conferences are full of LDUCs, my-team-is-better-than-your-team,
our-fans-are-better-than-your-fans and endless statistical discussions.
This conference has friends and digressions into various other topics
that are infinitely more interesting that what goes on over there.
I've deleted all those other conferences and no longer follow them.
I've seen a couple of other familiar names in there and your mileage
may vary but I think that network is almost a complete waste of time.

introduce myself in case I wanted to chime in.
I am a big sports fan. My favorite teams are the Red Sox, the
Bruins, the Celtics, and the Patriots. I have lived in New England all
my life, so I am loyal to my hometown teams. Look forward to
interesting conversations!

to intelligently complement JaKe in the never ending battle between him
and Hal and Gronowski. Here's a hint: never reply with a sentence that
begins with "Have the Browns ever..." The illogic that flows after one
of those is hilariously tiresome.
Keep the faith, friend.
