    In an effort to keep this notes file alive, here's my 2 cents worth on
    Petra.
    
    I have been following Petra for many years and have the following Petra
    music:
         
                                                                
    
          Petra
          Washes Whiter Than... 
          Never Say Die
          More Power To Ya
          Not Of This World
          Beat The System
          Petra Praise
          Petra Means Rock
    
     A friend that has been a faithful fan of Petra for years, saw them in
    concert and said that they had gotten so high tech and flashy, that he
    wasn't going to buy any more of their music. That was around the Beat  
    The System album. I wasn't crazy about the style of that album either,
    so I didn't buy any until recently, when I got Petra Praise and Petra    
    Means Rock. After listening to some of the songs that I don't have, I
    think I might get the albums that I'm missing.
    
     Sometimes it just doesn't pay to listen to friends.

    Whoops! In the last note I meant to say that I never saw the newer,
    high-tech version of Petra. I did see them in the old days. I also
    forgot another Petra album that I have called "New And Improved".

Petra is high tech and flashy...at least thats what they were everytime I've seen them.
But thats not necessarily a bad thing.  Some people may not like it and thats ok too.  They
put on a good professional show and its done with excellence.  I've also had opportunity
to meet most of the guys and they are real and sincere.

The thing I don't like about their concerts is that they are so well rehearsed that they
sound like their CD.  Personally I like some ad lib stuff once in awhile...guitar solo,
bass solo (of course) etc.  But thats how they are and you know what to expect when you
see them.

BTW...They're comments comparing their old praise CD to the new one is that they held
back too much on the old.  Hmmm, gotta hear that new one. 

    personally, i thot that Beat the System was a very good album; i also
    thot that the band fell directly into the formula rut with the
    departure of GXVolz.  i liked schlitt when he was with Head East, but
    the Petra stuff is too canned for me anymore.
    
    basking in the Bay area (this week, anyway) ...

    The Elefante brothers were the best thing to happen to Petra.  I
    haven't listened to them since they stopped producing them.

    not to rathole, BTW, but i *hate* the new john E album.  talk about
    insipid ... Barney does xtian pop ... {gak}
