732.0. "V1.6T Console Port Hang" by BSS::LIND (Jim Lind; 592-4099 CX03-1/N14 CNMC-West) Fri May 12 1995 16:46

    SUBJECT:	V1.6T Console Hang

    VMS VAX V6.1 w/PCM V1.6-001 FT - 6620 w/128 meg - 195 systems

    For unknown reason, console response to a system terminated.

    One system would no longer log console data to PCM. Console Connect
    would not function (no response from system).

    Checked therminal server (DS200) and shows proper remote process
    connect, no XON/XOFF - all looked OK.

    Rebooted terminal server, no joy.

    CONSOLE SHUTDOWN, stopped Console Notify process manually (see separate
    note) and restarted PCM.

    Console connectivity works OK now.

    Have not noted any RWMBX problems.

    This type of problem never happened in V1.5 of product, unless it was
    associated with terminal server prot XOFF.

Jim,

  You didnt happen to send a BREAK signal just before this happened
  did you?

  If so, this is a known problem and will be fixed in the next kit.

Cheers,
Phil

732.2BREAK hangs consoleBSS::LINDJim Lind; 592-4099 CX03-1/N14 CNMC-WestTue May 16 1995 23:1412
    There appears to be a connection between the isue of a break and
    the hang of the console port.

    Happened two times now.

    WORKAROUND - shutdown PCM (CONSOLE SHUT), manually STOP /ID on the
    console_notify process, restart PCM with SUBMIT /USER=SYSTEM
    SYS$STARTUP:CONSOLE$STARTUP.

    This is a real bad situation!

Jim,

 Have you tried the latest kit announced today?

 We have done some work around BREAK and ports hanging.

Cheers,
Phil
