1271.0. "Do these DBs run on these platforms??" by DOD2::PARKER () Thu Jul 15 1993 23:01

    Hi Gang....

I am putting together a competitive matrix and I am trying to
figure out which competitive products run on which platforms. If you
can fill in any of the blanks that I have, I would really appreciate
any and all help. I am looking at 3 different platforms:

VMS VAX VMS AXP OSF/1 AXP

I need to know about the following combinations of products running
    on the above hw platforms:

    INGRESS -	OSF/1
    EDA/SQL - All platforms
    PROGRESS - All platforms
    SQLBASE - All platforms

    Thank again

    Hi,

    Ingres 6.4 @ Alpha OSF/1 = NOW
    Ingres 6.5 @ Alpha/VMS = Q3CY93
    Ingres 6.4 @ VAX/VMS =NOW(never used it)

    Ingres 6.5 @Alpha/NT(!) = Q3CY93 Beta

all info came from Ingres, I've got Ingres 6.4 on OSF/1 up and running.

    regards,

Nothing to add as info is concerned, but would appreciate to see
the outcome of the 'competitive matrix'. With the budgets for
marketing almost gone down to zero, anything that is compiled by the
field is welcome as amunition in the continuous battle against some
    3rd parties.

    Thanks,
    Henny

Sybase runs like a dog on Alpha - slower than on VMS. They've got data
alignment problems which will be fixed in the next release...

Joan Scherer @KYO did a competitive matrix early this year.

I see that she's not in ELF, so...

    Re: .5

You are correct, Bruce. Joan has left Digital and is now working for a
Wall Street firm. Elaine Greenberg @NYO (DTN 352-2384) was her manager
and may know where you can locate the document.

The document covered Rdb V4.1, Oracle 7, and Sybase System 10 with
information that was known as of December 1992. You may be able to get
a more up to date document (done by different people) on Rdb V6.0,
Oracle 7, and Sybase System 10 from Evan (NOVA::EBAUER) Bauer (DTN
352-2385) or Hal Berenson (NOVA::) Berenson (DTN 264-3404).

    <GETTING UP ON SOAPBOX>

Unfortunately, these are ad-hoc (i.e., midnight project) efforts and
should in no way be confused with any funded competitive marketing
within Digital. If you think this kind of information is useful, you
should inform the appropriate CBU technical director.

    <STEPPING DOWN NOW>
