    The intent was great, the people doing the moderation and logisitics
    were great but the content was sadly lacking. Training should be more
    then just dumping information.

    We are on the right track, but meeting in a hotel for 3 days and
    throwing so much data at folks and expecting that to change the sales
    force is pretty naive.

    For myself, I need more hands on and more value demonstrated. How does
    this help customers? Why do other customers buy C/S. How
    does my customer get started? What application SW is available in C/S
    form? What are the pit falls? Etc.

    I hope we find better ways to train our sales force, but I am so glad
    we at least are recognizing that just putting information out in Sales
    Update doesn't cut it.

    By the way, what happened to the hardcopy Sales Update. This really
    hurts getting watered down Sales and Business Partner Sales Updates,
    way after the fact and the Vol numbers don't match up with the On-line
    information. New note coming on this subject.
195.2Boring...RIPPLE::CORBETTKEMon Oct 11 1993 18:116
    Just finished the one at SF (10-6/8). Too long, redundant and boring
    messages. It seems as someone said that the training had to last 3
    days, so they made it last 3 loooooong days. Could have been done
    quite well with 2 average days.

I haven't attended myself yet, but the reviews I've heard range from 'useful'
to 'totally worthless', so I'm pretty much undecided on whether I should attend
this mandatory training...

Somebody must be listening. We were just told the training this week in
Ct. has been cut to two days.

Well, I just came back from the "new and improved" 2-day version and

thank goodness it wasn't 3 days

what a waste of time

195.6Wasn't bad for me!KHUFU::EVENSONDon Evenson @MWO DTN 446-2470Fri Oct 15 1993 00:067
    I guess it depended on how much (or little) you already knew. I thought
    the two day version was reasonably informative. I went to the Chicago
    class and got a much better veiw of what our C/S story was. It was
    fairly "skim" the surface stuff. If you want real "meat", this isn't
    the place for it. But if you don't know CORBA from COSE, then it wasn't
    too bad. My cut is that it covered our open software strategy from a
    50K' view.
195.7POCUS::OHARAHit the return, Sundar... BOOM!Fri Oct 15 1993 13:235
And it probably depends on who delivered it. In Ct. the guys who gave it
made several substantive mis-statements of fact, and left the audience
with many misconceptions as to what can and cannot be done in the c/s space.

I truly believe the audience came away more confused that when they started.
195.8The test...NYOS02::BUONOMOTue Oct 19 1993 15:508
    Ah... But have you taken THE test...

    I didn't attend the train but took the test for grins... Just looked
    for the most long winded market babble answer...

    57 out of 60.. figures.

Ah, come on Lou, it ain't fair that you software geniuses get to take this
test and put us sales types to shame. ;')

...come to think of it, care to take the test for me?

    I went to a CBU training session last week that was EXCELLENT!! Our VP
    made a presentation and asked for questions. I commented on how good
    the CBU training was but that the Client/Server training over 3 days
    was terrible. He was aware of the problem, said that Lucente was aware
    of it and they are addressing it. Possible resoulution is outsourcing
    all sales training or hirong from the outside a proferssional sales
    trainer to make sure that this does not happen again.

    In the 5 years i have been in Digital there have been ZERO training
    classes that impressed me. Poor quality, minimal content, some nice
    slides but a massive waste of time.

195.11Where's it at?NEMAIL::MCDONALDJWed Oct 27 1993 10:171
    Can anyone point to where the test is online?

Re: -1

You need to get into a system that's running DECmentor. This varies by
geography.
195.13Where are you at?RIPPLE::CORBETTKEWed Oct 27 1993 13:274
    It depends upon the region you're in. You should have a contact there
    who can tell you.

    Well, I was told what it did and why it was better but....

    It would be nice if I knew what some of those products looked like.
