232.0. "CD Players under #150 ?" by PEKING::GERRYT () Thu Nov 22 1990 13:33

    I am considering replacing my noisy CD, and wondered what your opinions
    were of CD's players for under #150. Any ideas ?
    Might I be better off getting a portable and plugging it into my home
    stereo ? Would the quality od sound deteriorate?

    thanks,
    Tim

	Nowadays, excellent CD players can be bought for 150ish which
	will satisfy the vast majority. There's no real point in paying
	more since if there are improvements in the future it's a question
	of replacement not upgrade.

	I recently bought a Technics SLP277A which I find to be excellent.
	The equivalent Phillips model is well regarded too, and there are
	many others. Bitstream players such as these are better than the
	older sampling type.

	Resist any desire to pay more, the incremental cost effectiveness
	is minimal.
