Yes - you put it in-line between pre-amp and power-amp.
If you are interested, and can sort out how to power it (its 110V) I have
an American built equaliser that has a tape moniter output - you plug it
into a tape socket on your amp and then if nec. attach your tape recorder
to it - that I'm not using, that I might be prepared to part with.

| I have a Graphic Equalizer in my HiFi system. The way it is setup
is the EQ is connected to the TAPE play/rec on my amp. The tape
deck is then connected to the play/rec sockets on the equalizer.
To use the system I have to leave the tape monitor on (As if i were
going to play a tape). Then there is a switch on the Equalizer that
says soething like Tape/Source if it is switched to tape you can
play a tape or if it is switched to source you can use the
CD/Tuner/Record deck.
I hope this explains how a EQ works in a HiFi system.
