857.0. "...N days to go " by COMICS::SHELLEY () Fri May 26 1995 14:07

What is it with these notices "June 5th, N days to go" that appear
on every notice board in the CSC.

It appears that someone is actually changing them every day.

Is it really worth the effort. I've heard the BIG event it that we
are getting recycling bins or have I got it wrong.

    Royston,

If anybody were to answer the question in detail I think it would spoil
the surprise. However, it is certainly bigger than just recycling
bins. At least, Nelson Mandela is personally involved so you could
read something into that if you wanted to.

IF you want to know more, keep an eye on those O so lovingly changed
notices - somebody certainly wants you to stay interested.

I hate teaser campaigns. They are annoying.

    :-)

But if you want to follow in the traditions of all teaser campaigns,
let out more info and people will stay interested. Change the poster
so that a little more info comes out.

Oh and it is obviously soemthing to do with the UN cos that's the
    Symbol of the UN.

What ! You missed the announcement that we should all turn
	our monitors off at night?

	I bet you're disappointed.

I had reason to call in to Viables last night at 22:30.

It was a very warm evening and, in certain areas, it was warmer inside
    the building than out.

I personally switched off at least one dozen small heaters, which
masquerade during the daytime as monitors. None of these had been
    powered down by their owners.

Six of them were in one particular zone in the building where the
occupants have been complaining of heat problems for the last few days.

I am at a loss to understand why people can not connect the circuitry
inside their heads so they can comprehend this simple truth: monitors
convert electrical energy (which costs us money) into heat energy
    (which makes us uncomfortable).

Why don't we save money and make the office a nicer place to be by
    turning the monitors off overnight?

    OOHH!

So that is why I've had so many calls on blown up monitors then.
    I was wondering about that....
