726.0. "Car with roof rack?" by LARVAE::THAYER_S (Thomas spielt mit der Maus...) Fri Jan 28 1994 09:50

Does anyone have a car with a roof rack which we could borrow for an
hour sometime to transport a ladder from B&Q to Chineham?

We would ideally like to borrow this one evening after work next week
    or on Saturday 5th February.

Please mail me or phone 781 1684 if you can help.

    Thanks,
    Susi

I thought B & Q delivered free within a certain radius that must
	include Chineham.

They do, but for various reasons which I won't bore you with, we'd
(he'd) like to pick it up on a roof rack!

    Susi,

Don't know about B&Q, but Homebase will lend you a roofrack. If B&Q
don't currently offer this service, perhaps you could apply some market
force and persuade them to start!

Offers of help and creative suggestions have been pouring in, but I'd
really just prefer to borrow a car for an hour.

I've had a couple of offers of roof racks, the problem is that my car's
an MX5 and won't take a roof rack!

So, can anyone (preferably living or working in Basingstoke) lend me a
    car with a roofrack?

why not just take the roof down and stick the ladder out the back.

4 metre ladder??? I used that method to drive a 4 ft plant home from
the garden centre once and it was a bit tricky. Reasonably amusing
    though in sunny weather.

    I'll pass on .6, thanks!

726.8Solved - almost!LARVAE::THAYER_SThomas spielt mit der Maus...Fri Feb 04 1994 15:0112
Many many thanks to everyone who has offered to help!

I've had some very interesting offers, of cars, roof racks and even
ladders...! If I get a brown envelope over the next few weeks I reckon
I could make a lot of money writing a bestseller on 'Everything you ever
wanted to know about picking a ladder up and taking her home'!!

Anyway, I've now swapped cars, I've got a car with a roof rack and
we'll try and pick this ladder up tomorrow. Bet they've run out!

Thanks again - for the help and an amusing week!
