I hope to be visiting Basingstoke in the near future and as this is my first visit I would be grateful if someone there could give me the directions from Heathrow ? I've already looked through this notes file so I know about buses but I may drive ! It depends on timing, etc. Thanks in advance, Mike Dawkes @GEO

You can either make your way round the perimeter road directly onto the M25, or get onto the M4 and then the M25. Either way, go south on the M25 until you reach the M3 junction. Basingstoke is off J6 of the M3. An alternative route, which is probably better during rush-hours is to go West on the M4 to Reading (J11) and then take the A33 south to Basingstoke.

>An alternative route, which is probably better during rush-hours is to go >West on the M4 to Reading (J11) and then take the A33 south to Basingstoke. The increased mileage and slightly smaller queue of the M4 at J11 plus the queues of the A33 will gain nothing. To avoid really bad delays getting off the M3 take the M3 and get off at Hook, take the Hook (Reading road), straight on at the first roundabout, left at the mini roundabout to pick up the A30 into Basingstoke. Even this may take just as long! Dave.

No, forget the M3 altogether! Get off the M25 at Egham and go down the A30, it's nearly always quieter between Egham and Bagshot than the M3. Just remember to get back on the M3 at Bagshot if it's rush hour as Camberley gets a bit nasty! Mark |
