198.4 | Try the council | CURRNT::GREEN_K | Happiness is a signed timesheet | Fri Aug 11 1989 15:02 | 12 |
| We had a large number of cardboard boxes etc when we moved house
a couple of years ago. We just rang up the council (ours is Newbury
District) and they came and took it away, free of charge.
The only condition was that they couldn't say when they would be
calling, on that it would be in the next ten days, but we just told
them where it was and they took it.
Might be wouth you giving your local council a ring.

| Be a good greenie and take it to the recycling centre in Wade Rd
on the Daneshill Industrial estate. While you're going you could
also take all your papers, cans and bottles too instead of just
throwing them in the bin.

Thanks for all the advice - Took the damned thing to the
Household Waste Disposal Unit in Wade Rd. (Though why they
don't just call it a dump beats me!)

| Why won't the Waste Disposal brigade take away Garden Rubbish (
even when its in plastic bags ) . Some areas seem to do this but
the Basingstoke dustbin brigade always leave it behind ???

198.9 | Two routes | UBOHUB::SANWELL | | Wed Aug 16 1989 17:00 | 5 |
| You have two routes:
1. Hide it amongst ordinary rubbish (that the one I do)
or
2. Ask for the special green bags, that are for this specific purpose
|
198.10 | Third route | COMICS::WEGG | Some hard-boiled eggs and some nuts. | Thu Sep 28 1989 08:52 | 12 |
| Well you now have another alternative if you perpetually have garbage that
the dustmen won't remove. Move to Petersfield.
Now our dustmen will take anything that will fit in the bin. Boxes, garden
refuse, old T.V.'s. How do you get it all in the bin? Easy! East Hampshire
District Council supply every household with a 240 litre dustbin, complete
with hinged lid and wheels. I have mine parked on the front lawn right now.
Mind you, an estate where every house has a 2' x 2' x 4'(high) bin out
front is not a pretty sight - they don't fit in the dustbin cupboards!

198.11 | It depends! | SHAPES::STREETR | uncontaminated by cheese | Fri Sep 29 1989 12:34 | 12 |
| I am in Petersfield (well Steep Marsh actually), and get our
'wheelie bin' next year sometime.
As we live 250 yards up a track from where the dustbin is collected
today, I am NOT looking forward to the 'w-b's!
The dustbin I can get in the car, the 'w-b' no chance, not even
the smaller version. So what do I do? Leave the bin on the road?
.... how long before it is 'borrowed'? .....I am considering a letter
to EHDC.
Anyone else using 'w-b's??

198.12 | I love my wheelie-bin!! | BELLY::WILLIAMS | Garfield loves Pooky | Mon Oct 02 1989 14:33 | 12 |
| I live in Andover and have had a wheelie bin since I moved there. You don't
have to bother with plastic bin liners and there is loads more room in the
w-b than in conventional bins - you can even put garden rubbish in them - they
don't seem to object.
The Council put a sticker on ours with the relevant address on and none of them
seem to go missing.
I think they're a really great idea and I'm sure it must be cheaper for the
Council to run than supplying bin liners every week.

198.13 | They should come up your street... | SUBURB::PARKER | | Mon Oct 02 1989 18:37 | 15 |
| Re .11
Ray,
The rules say that the bin will be collected from the edge of your
property. If the _track_ is yours, you have a problem. If the track
is effectively the road up which you live, they will have to drive
their dustcart up the track to your house. Presumably they do this
now anyway.
A well place bottle of scotch this christmas, with the promise of
seasonal repetition, would probably provide the incentive otherwise!

| re .12 Bin liners? They don't leave bin-liners!
re .13 The 'drive/track' is not mine, it is owned by the farmer.
I don't believe they would collect from the 'edge of my
property' although its a nice idea, and I will pursue it
when I query whether I must have a w-b. Currently they
collect from where the track meets the lane. The lane is
council adopted. I suspect _that_ is the difference.
Actually, a bit of humble pie.... the small bins are actually
not much bigger than a dustbin, so it might fit in a car boot.
I will have to wait and see!
Ray.
