| Hi,
The last time I enquired about this, (a month ago) the shop
wanted the surname to send away to see if 'one' was entitled to
a Coat of Arms. If the answer was yes, it was going to take six
weeks.
Perhaps someone knows a quicker way?
Regards

Hi also,
Just checked a shop called Papersmiths at 10, Winchester street,
B'stoke. (B'stoke 24468)
They research names and produce what I understand to be an ornate
card with the research they have done on one side, and the relevant
coat of arms on the other. Cost is about six pounds and takes (they
say) ten to fourteen days.
Think its just the name though, can't see it being blood lines and
descendants for that price.
Hope this helps

127.3 | Some research has been done. | 32151::CARPENTER | Exiled Canard | Tue Mar 28 1989 14:16 | 8 |
| Well, the gentleman in question (last name is Overlock) has done some research
into his family's background. I understand the family is related somewhere to
General Howe and others I don't know about. But I would assume that we have a
good chance of him being 'entitled' to one. But then again...
Thanks for the information so far. Any other inputs will also be welcome.

| There is a reference book that details (in several volumes) all
coats-of-arms in existence. It even had one for my name, which
surprised me. The book was in my local library.
I guess these places that do them for 6 just reproduce the relevant
page of this manual for your family name. O.K. for me, there was only
one page, don't know what happens if your name is Smith though.
As .2 says, I doubt if you get any research on your geneology (is
that the right word!), just a coat of arms associated with your
surname. I don't know what is classified as 'entitlement'. I know
arms are 'granted', but what restrictions are there on anyone using
a coat-of-arms or any other personal 'logo'?
