    Steve,

As you are on a Crescent machine....does this mean that you are
feeling somewhat nervous as to what might happen to you when the
"Hit Squad" come round later??? (we have plenty of permanent red

Whilst on the subject, (Perhaps Mr. Mod should change the topic
name to Comic Relief ) yesterdays BBC local news reported that
several Basingstoke solicitors were rounded up by police, locked
in the cells for a while, then charged at a local magistrates court
with imaginary charges such as consuming alcohol in a private place,
and displaying a large cigar in a public place. All fines were payable
    to Comic Relief.

I also saw two men dressed as rabbits, walking round the ring road
    this morning ( I don't know why, though )

    Steve,

For your information, I paid in 412.00 pounds to Comic Relief on
Saturday, this was all collected at the Crescent. So, you can't say
that having a lipstick nose wasn't worth it!!

118.9A Christmas requestPENUTS::DUDLEYWed Dec 06 1989 20:1019
This looks like the right place for this, but it is a real request.
Over here in the states, I have been looking for a particular book as
a Christmas present for my son. It's title is "The Children's Giant
Atlas of the Universe". It is not available here because of some
stupid political thing. However, I would be willing to put a check in
the mail immediately if someone happens to spot it at Waterstones or
somewhere else. I know it is available in the UK.

Published 1989 by Hamlyn Publisher's Group

    Text by Ian Ridpath
    Illustrated by Oxford Illust.

2 feet x 3 feet a big book, and maybe mailing charges would be
too prohibitive, but if someone might be able to research, my kids
and I would be grateful, and maybe some day I would be able to return
    the favour.

    Thanks, Bill

118.11Ski rack/snow chains wantedBEEZER::ROEMon Feb 19 1990 11:5013
Hi,

Does anyone know where I could beg, steal or borrow a ski-rack and/or snow
chains to fit an E-reg Golf GTI? I am due to change my lease car soon, so
there's little point in buying these items if I can hire or borrow them.

Period of need is 16th - 25th March.

Hope you can help!

Thanks,

Mike

There used to be a place down the alley opposite the Jobcentre,
but that's long since disappeared. You'll have much more luck
up in Reading, where you will also be able to obtain incense,
charcoal blocks, rizlas and all that paraphenalia from shops
	in the Traders Centre.

I am after borrowing, for a production at my wife's school, some theatrical
special effects, specifically and most urgently one of these magic boxes which
produces a flash and lots of smoke, during which time one of the cast can be
magically transformed.

Years ago when I worked in the theatre they consisted of little
more than a piece of fuse wire which very briefly passed mains current
and in the process of fusing ignited some magic 'transformation powder'.
They are probably more sophisticated, and hopefully safer these days.

I realise there are theatrical suppliers from which such items can be hired, but
given the almost non-existant budget for this extravaganza it would be better if
I could borrow one. Anybody with theatrical connections or any other suggestions
please contact me by mail

I try that mens outfitters at the top end of town (near the Halifax
B.S) - don't know for sure that they sell them - failing that perhaps
    Owen & Owen.

    Good Luck
