4841.0. "DTN Access to Vacated/Closed Facilities" by WBC::DOERING (Wash BM Center 339-5213) Tue Sep 10 1996 19:38

    Grettings:

I tried to call a SalesRep today via her DTN (335-xxxx). A guy
answered the phone and responded with "MacroSoft". I thought I had
fat-fingered the phone number. So I waited alittle and dialed the
same DTN again. Same guy answered the phone. Found out his number
is 201-631-xxxx. I later got ahold of the Sales Rep at her home
office number, and found out that her ex phone number (before
the Digital building was closed), was the same as this guy at
    MacroSoft.

Question, even tho the Digital building was closed/vacated,
does this sound like the DTN access is still there and available
    for MacroSoft ??

    Thanks,
    Randy

No.

In many cases, DTN access is simply software in the phone network.

That's the case here. There were no DTN wires into Parsippany.
Dialing DTN 335-xxxx simply translated to a long distance call to
201 631-xxxx (restricted to that range of 631 numbers that we
actually had).

The office was closed, but the software maintained in our MCI private
network and our PBXs has not removed the translation for DTN 335.

The NJO site is essentially closed (only 4 lines remain active).
However, the telephone numbers associated with NJO were not removed
from the software database (as John stated in .1). This is now being
    corrected.

    Randy,

Thank you so much for bringing this to our attention. While the
Parsippany site downsized significantly, it did not close completely
(there are about 4 lines still active). All the appropriate orders
were submitted to the various suppliers, but unfortunately, not all
    were completed.

We are working with MCI this morning to have the virtual network
routing database updated to reflect the correct information.

Again, thank you for taking the time to let us know this problem
    existed in the network.

    Kind regards,

    Roberta Hamilton
    DTN Service Manager
