Golden Eggs are a collection of wonderful drawings explaining in
one picture all the options and all the parts you need to build
    a Digital system configuration.

the quality, the precision, the completness, and the usefulness
of these pictures are outstanding, many thanks to Matti.

To give you an idea, it even gives you the reference of the cables you
    need!

There's a survey floating around on the usefulness of the Systems and
Options Catalogue. If you've got the survey, and haven't seen Golden
Eggs, have a look before you return the survey. Then consider whether
this kind of stuff needs to go out with the SOC, and reply accordingly.

Where do I get a copy of the survey about the usefulness of
the Sys&Ops catalog? GoldenEggs is very impressive, but the
Sys&Ops catalog is indispensible when you need to browse over
    a general category, IMHO.

Question 7: "When do you find GOLDEN EGGS as it's best?"

A collection of responses to this question is
attached. Very interesting and valuable feed back.

54.000 hard copies:
Only ONE single Rev of GOLDEN EGGS hard copy was
printed in FY95. Reason for this "late arrival" was
lack of funding and my limited time for this
                  "endless information chasing" and Art-work.

	 	  Rev 16 12-Aug-93 6.000 copies, Europe
	 	  Rev 17 12-Jan-94 9.000 copies, Europe
	 	  Rev 18 12-Apr-94 9.000 copies, Europe
                  Rev 19 01-May-94 10.000 copies, North American
	 	  Rev 20 06-Mar-95 20.000 copies, Universal
                                   -------
                  Total Hard copies 54.000 printed

Rev 21 & 22 At this moment there is No Solid Funding,
No manpower and No timing planned for next GE
                  revisions 21 and 22.

Thank you for Your Co-operation in this highly
                  important selling tool project,

    Answers to question number 7:
    ----------------------------

    7. In which situation GOLDEN EGGS is the most valuable tool for you?

Answer: ... .. . ANSWERING CUSTOMER QUESTIONS ABOUT WHAT GOES IN
                           THE BOX.

         Answer: NEW PRODUCTS
                 some details
                 quick view
                 cables
                 options, ...

Answer: ... .. . VERY USEFUL FOR OUR VARs

         Answer: writing proposal

         Answer: ... .. .
                 - for correct Offers
                 - for HW-Design
                 - for all projects

Answer: ... .. . To visualize the system the customer is going to
                            get

         Answer: ... .. .
Explaining to product management how their products
ought to be structured, what part numbers to request.

Answer: When I need to know how something can be assembled.

Well, I know that you've heard this before -- but when is the EGGS
going to the WEB? That would help at least in the OFFSITE Centers
if they pages could be retrieved that way -- then the updates would
        be there.

Answer: One is when a customer calls and is having a problem and
they tell me what they have on thier system I can look at Golden EGGS
see what the proper config would be and what the valid options are.
Also QRL does not always show you the right cables.
Since we are a remote office we have limited sales coverage so we in
MCS are the customers first point of contact when they want to add to
thier systems. Golden Eggs gives us the info we need to help them.

Answer: .As a quick reference guide and a fast solution on a question
                  of a customer.. .. .

Additional comments: .For my job it isn't detailed enough, but
as I said first line questions I can answer them with this tool.

         Answer:
Most often it is the best source of information for
                cabling questions.

        Any final comments:

Well, in this time of diminishing resources, this document
does a superb job of providing little known knowledge while
trying to configure or upgrade customer's systems, and of
course helps to reduce the amount of time needed to find
        answers!

Answer: finding the right option, the right mem-configuration,
finding the differences between systems, etc, etc

         Answer: WHILE CONFIGURING CLUSTERS

         Answer:
         - STORAGEWORKS configuring with SCSI CABLING
         - when seldom issues have to be answers quickly I always find
a general overview then mention to the person the GE page.

Good work and happy to work with, Matti.

         Answer: Quick configuration check

Additional comments: Matti, I wish you all good there in Tundra !

Answer: ... .. . Giving to our partner to help him.

         Answer: ... .. .
I have used GOLDEN EGGS to support engineers in the field. There
is a wealth of information in the document.

Answer: __In configuration's analysis for SBU/ABU Customers

Answer: QUICK OVERVIEW OF POSSIBLE CONFIGURATIONS

Answer: Looking for specific info for example on buses, interfaces

Additional comments: I would like to see excact performance ratings
for various operating systems (SPEC, TPS) also in GE.

Answer: I work in the OMS Business Protection Services Market and
I find the tool very useful as a reference, especially for part
         numbers.

          Answer: Network products configuration

Additional comments: I should like GOLDEN EGGS as much again if the
reservated part to network products configuration it was more
         importan+
(Ex: DEChub,DECSwitch,Network interface cards and other network
         products)

When a "GOLDEN EGGS" INTERNET SERVER ?

         Answer: Expansion of existing system
                 Building of new, complex configuration

Additional comments: It would interesting to have something similar
        for networks

Answer : approximate price/proposal for fast answer

The SOC survey deadline was 19th December (I hadn't noticed that). In
case replies are still welcome, here's the survey. It's quite lengthy
so press Next Unseen if you don't want it. As you will see I got it
because I told Reader's Choice I'm in Sales (which I'm not, really).

Subject: Systems and Options Catalog Survey 1

From: Joe Costa, MROA::COSTA, DTN 297-4351

The WW SBU Communications Group is assessing the production and
delivery of the Systems and Options Catalog (SOC) to Digital's Sales,
Partners, and Customers. We would like to enlist your help in
evaluating the effectiveness of this tool. We would like you to tell
us what works, and what doesn't. Is the information and format clear,
concise, and consistent? What delivery methods would be best for you?
How can we improve this tool to make your job easier? The results
will help us to improve the SOC. Please include feedback from your
Customers and Partners when completing the survey.

We will also use this survey to create a distribution list for the SOC.
We are only going to produce the number of catalogs that are actually
requested, and not just print quantities to store in the warehouse.

THEREFORE, IT IS TO YOUR BENEFIT TO RESPOND TO THIS SURVEY IF YOU
WOULD LIKE TO RECEIVE A CATALOG.

The survey below will take about 15 minutes of your time. Please
say as much or as little as you would like about each questions
and return the survey to me MROA::COSTA NO LATER THAN FRIDAY
  DECEMBER 19, 1995

  Thanks for your participation.

  -Joe
