| Van, the first thing you need is a MadeupName to 2-5-2 translator. I have
never heard of any of the three products you mention! If you CAN get the
2-5-2 number, I would use VTX PRICE to see if it's still in the price book.

If that's what I think it was, they're all gone, some to TFSO
and the rest to better opportunities elsewhere. But if it's
crucial, I can probably recall a manager's name or two.

environment for multi-document display and VR-ish manipulation.

4258.4 | VTX IR | A1VAX::GUNN | I couldn't possibly comment | Wed Nov 08 1995 19:13 | 8 |
| While not guaranteed to be 100% comprehensive, searching the
Information Repository (VTX IR), all categories using the particular
product name as a keyword, should turn up references to the product
if it still being sold. This would be the quickest way I know to find
the kind of information you are looking for.
(Now standby for a DECtechdroid to rathole this whole string with a
tirade on the VTX UI 8-) !)

| Hi Van.
In general, some good on-line sources to use for leads are:
Digital internal WWW full-text index:
http://src-www.pa.dec.com/cgi-bin/dwi
[found Workscape the SI/MAYA project mentioned previously]
COMET (search NOTES, STARS, QAR databases, etc.):
http://www-comet.alf.dec.com:8032/
[found tokenWORKS - token ring network interface products; and WorkScape
mentioned in connection with TeamLinks, WorkScape the predecessor name
to TeamRoute (formerly DECflow), and Workscape the 3D document
visualizer/desktop for NT (same as above)]
SPDs:
http://www.digital.com/info/SPD/home.html [no luck]
Main WWW server search:
http://www.digital.com/www-cgi-bin/textit?/info/forms/search.html
[found tokenWORKS (last mention 1/94)]
DECdirect search:
http://www2.service.digital.com/DECdirect/html/search-form.html
[nada]
There's no search on the Systems and Options catalog yet, I don't
think.
And then the ones that include external sources:
Alta Vista (experimental)
http://altavista.pa.dec.com/
[found "DEC TOKENWORKS ISA DT204-AA" and several "workscape"s]
And if it's really tough to find, the arsenal at:
http://www.see.tay.dec.com/WWW-search-engines.html
[don't bother looking for PowerFactory]

4258.7 | Search price file product names for specific text | BBPBV1::WALLACE | UNIX is digital. Use Digital UNIX. | Thu Nov 09 1995 06:25 | 19 |
| If you'd like to search the _UK_ price file, to find a word in the
product name, you can do so (as can digital's UK business partners),
using a Web-based service which the outside world can find at
http://www.digital.co.uk
Or internally at
http://www.bbp.dec.com
In both cases follow the links to PartnerWeb. External users require a
username and password from Digital to access sensitive information such
as prices (!).
There are differences between what's sold in the UK and what's sold
elsewhere, some deliberate and others accidental, but it may be a good
starting point. If you find it here, it's available for sale here.
Probably.

>VTX CEO won't tell you if the product is still sold.
VTX CEO will tell you this:
- NO OPTION, BUT A SERIES NAME
0 PROJECT CANCELLED (NEVER BUILT)
1 IN CONCEPT STAGE, SUBJECT TO CHANGE WITHOUT NOTICE
2 IN DESIGN
3 CUSTOM BUILT OR LOW VOLUME
4 RELEASED TO BUILD (HARDWARE) OR PRE-RELEASED (SOFTWARE)
5 RELEASED TO PRODUCTION (HARDWARE) OR AVAILABLE IN THE
SOFTWARE DISTRIBUTION CENTER (SOFTWARE)
6 OBSOLETE BUT CAN STILL BE CUSTOM BUILT
7 NO LONGER MANUFACTURED, BUT SERVICED
8 NO LONGER MANUFACTURED OR SERVICED
However, it says the Avanti I'm typing this on is still "IN DESIGN", so maybe
this isn't all it's cracked up to be.
