Funny, the same "thought" struck me this morning. The flood
gates, seemed to have opened up this week. One wonders why?

| Not too long ago, people were not happy with all the VPs
that we had. Lets don't complain too much that the ranks
are dwindling. I have not seen many names listed of VPs
that leaving that were making a positive impact on the
Digital turn around .

| I'm not so sure we're netting out at fewer VP's. Storage just named 2 new ones
(Rennick and Feresten). And I've been wondering if the SLT hasn't been
deliberately NOT announcing other promotions.
BTW, Feresten reports to Rennick who reports to Charlie Christ. All are VP's.
And the beat goes on.

Yes, but don't assume Ryan was responsible for the success.

What is happening is that somebody, eventually, is going to be left
holding the bag. And the VPs with half a brain are getting out.. that
means one of the brain-dead will get the knocks.
Most of these guys couldn't run a car wash.

3203.9 | VP marketing? to CFO! | DV780::FRASER | Rocky Mt PSC, Gov't Soln Arch | Fri Jun 24 1994 13:01 | 6 |
| What strikes me about this announcement, is the following:
Here we have a VP of corporate MARKETING, that is now the CFO for an
old main-frame clone company. Sounds like he went where his skills
(ie finance) could be used, leaving a job where everyone kept telling
him that we don't do marketing..

| Please stop being so paranoid. All these VP exits have been commensurate with their
announcement of new job opportunities. It takes more than a week (even for a VP)
to find a new job; weeks or months at least. First people complain we have too many
VP's, then they complain when they go.

| Hey Bruce is a real bright guy. Here he has an opportunity to go into
Amdahl who does have a respected name in the mainframe marketplace, put
in his time as CFO, do some good things to improve on their B/S, Income
Statement and Cash Flows, and then perhaps take a run for the CEO's job
down the road. Knowing him, he probably has the first level of
Maslov's pyramid of needs pretty much under control and now he's
working on the next higher levels. Good for him, a young corporate
executive taking control of his destiny before someone does it for him.
Best of luck to you Bruce if you catch this notes file, it was indeed a
pleasure to have you here. You made a very positive contribution to
our firm during its heydays. Now go figure out how to cut into IBM's
margins will you so we can try to square this place around.
Good luck, Good hunting

| Amdahl is certainly a happening company. That's why Mr. Amdahl left it.
And mainframes are certainly the place to be.
I'm sure Bruce will be there at least 6 months.

| Bruce might have been a real bright guy in the finance area. But according
to one of my friend in the industry marketing organization, he had no
clue, what he was supposed to do in Industry marketing ( which now is more
than old Finance CBU ). It seems he surrounded himself with people with
Finance background as much as possible. (Old boys network !)to run many
industry marketing groups, which requires skill sets ( more than
Finance ). I understand that most of his direct reports DONOT have any
background ( Skill set ) in the industry group they are supposed to be
managing. Most of the promotions were handed out based on "WHO KNOWS WHO !
Many key people ( Managers-who knows the industry very well ) have left
or trying to leave the group in disgust !! In my opinion Industry
Marketing needs a new blood who has the right skill set and put in
place an industry marketing organization with the right skill sets.
History will show our experiment with some internal candiates have
failed.
Nobody asked.. Just my opinion.
