2668.0. "DCU gets greedy (again)!" by MVDS00::FRASER (Mobius Loop; see other side) Tue Sep 14 1993 19:13

Seems that our Digital Credit Union board (with a couple of
notable exceptions) are at it again.

In spite of a clear mandate from the electorate against "user
fees" in the last special meeting and subsequent election to
oust the old board, it's reported that user fees are being
        imposed on a selective basis - so-called "relational  banking";
a closed session decision, unreported in the April minutes.
This in spite of having exceeded profit goals. It's also
rumoured that the fees are designed to cover monetary rewards
or bonuses to the DCU staff - I don't know the truth of that
one, but it does seem to be time to add SMAUG::DCU to your
notebook and make your voice heard if you use the DCU and care
about being levied with "bank"-type charges.

You'll find the stuff about bonuses for the DCU employees reported
in the minutes of one of the board meetings. I think it was the June
or July meeting. The minutes are posted in the DCU notesfile in note
    2.*.

Unfortunately the board seems to believe in keeping the membership
in the dark. The discussion of imposing fees on the membership was had
at the April BOD meeting. But apparently the whole item was redacted
from the minutes. I personally find this reprehensible action by the
Chairman of the DCU BOD (Lisa Demauro Ross). Maybe they thought that
they shouldn't let members know ahead of time that they were going to
    try and reimpose fees again.

In late 1991 there was a Special Meeting called by the membership and
one of the resultions that passed was a resolution banning checking
account fees (I thought for ever). The DCU conveniently seems to have
forgotten this resolution passed by the membership, and worse than
that, has explicitly acted to hide the fact that it was going to impose
fees for a period of 6 months (ie April until now). If you care about
the DCU tune in to the DCU notesfile (SMAUG::DCU). I expect things to
    get lively in there again.

By the way if anybody would like to make their views known to the DCU
board of directors you'll find a distribution list containing their
electronic mail addresses in note 5.1 in the SMAUG::DCU notes
    conference.

I'm already working on my letter. Before sending it I'm waiting for
my "you're a relationship member" through the post though.

Gee, I'm not a "relationship member", just a "valued member". Is that
cause I only have a mortgage with them ?

I member with either a large loan or deposit or a sold mortgage with the
    DCU.

Probably correct. Relationship members should have received a letter
from the DCU by now. Others will be seeing something soon.

I'm not particularly happy with the new fee proposal, but I
feel lisa deserves a lot of credit for hauling herself out of bed
at those hours to sit by her DTN and make herself available to folks...
