It's just you. You should have been here in the early days. :-)
Seriously, this conference like many others goes in cycles. These
days a lot of people are on edge and there is some hostility. But
I don't really see it as much worse then it has been in the past.

| What you are reading in the notes file these days appears to be only
reality to me. Many (most) employees are frustrated by the way they
are being treated, the uncertainty of employment, lack of senior management
leadership, etc, etc. Should I go on? I do however think it is
healthy to "vent". I just wish someone in senior management would
reads these notes and wakeup.

| I agree with the basenote. If you have a different point of view from
the majority, your "stoned" by the masses. I find this note to be
a 'read' only note. I have actually been biting my tongue on alot of
these notes because I march to the beat of a different drummer.
Let us all chill out, everyone has their own opinions, and opinions
don't get it done, now do they?
All is well. Life is grand.

i agree with previous callers too, i think it is all because we work
in cubes, i mean here you are stuck inside a small cube all day,
you become cuby-phobic and your nervous systems gets on its edges
and more intense, i find that people who work next to a window and can
see the outside spaces from where they sit to be a more calmer and
happy people, but those of are on the inside and cant see the air
outside are the ones who scream in notes files to steam off the phobic
feelings inside them.
all this modern closed buildings working environment is making people
like that, if we all worked in close to nature and had fresh air
and worked in the Caribbean like Mr Dick Beldin does, every one will
love each others and be happy and starts stopping to smell a rose
and will not scream at others.

| Yes, most definitely. People are tense and very aggressive
everywhere. Especially here at DEC, where we have the double
whammy of a lousy economy at both our government and our company.
re: .4 Just to clarify, you weren't "stoned" because you march
to a different drummer. It was because YOU were the aggressor.
Having a different opinion is fine. Telling everyone else that
their opinions and concerns make you sick and that this notes file
is a crock of %$*&@ is what did it. If you don't want to be stoned,
don't throw stones.

| Re .5
Not to send this pleasant conversation down the rathole but I
think you hit a good point. I have always's felt the cubicles
forced us to be individual contributors in the true sense of the
phrase. (Anybody else here find it funny that management call us
"individual contributors" while beating on us to develop a team
spirit? but that's for another rathole...)
My group recently decided to move a group of us to a new office
area that is owned by the CC and will reduce cost. The new office
area was brand_spankin_new 2 years ago so what's the first thing
they do? Tear up the offices (somebody doesn't like open offices)
and paint the walls because somebody doesn't like powder blue. I
guess that knocks this year's raise down a notch or two.
Yeah, people are getting more aggressive. I don't know about
everybody else out there but after I write out checks for my bills,
pay my real estate taxes (which went up 14% this year), jump in my 8
year old Chevy truck, pass by a couple of homeless people on the
way to the post office, then drive into work, I am not in a good mood
to hear that a pleasantly inhabitable office area will be torn up
because "somebody didn't like it".
I realize I'm being aggressive here and possibly biting the hand
that feeds me, it is just very painful for me to watch money being
ABSOLUTELY WASTED when there are so many more important things that
need be fixed.
In my not_so_humble opinion...

| Well, Nasser, there's a cure for cubitis. I get up and walk around and
pester other people in their offices at least five times a day. I
never use the telephone to talk to someone in the building, I go to
his/her office. It gives me that change of pace (and lets me look out
the window at the palm trees and green grass)!
Anyway, just 'cause the weather is so nice down here, it isn't a big
deal. I mean, if tomorrow is going to be just as beautiful as today,
why get excited? But, I'll have to admit, when I made the decision to
live down here 35 years ago, I was under a magic spell. Its taken a
long time to get blas about nice weather 365 days a year.

I think you've got the key. Many men (especially, but some women too)
in the American culture think that their work is their life. I used to
think the same way. With age, one realizes that there is life beyond
the work we do for pay. We need to detach emotionally from our paid
work to manage our entire lives.

Yes, this notesfile is getting more hostile, people as a whole are more
hostile.
I attended a stress management seminar and the speaker said it is not
the economy that is getting everyone stressed out, it is each other!
All we do these days is b__ch at each other and complain about each
other! How about a little support for each other as co-workers, from
the CEO down, we are all human beings just trying to do our jobs.
He said we are kinder to strangers than we are to our loved ones and
co-workers. Sure made me think twice.
Let's have a little compassion and support each other in a common goal.

hi, is this like an English language expression? i mean i looked shrew up
and it means:
1. n. 1. A very small mouselike mammal with pointed nose.
now, an elephant has pointed nose off course, but it is not small
mammal, and what does it mean to not close it eyes?
iam sure this is an expression, but never heard it before and i'd
like to know what it really mean so i can add it to my expressions
collections.
does it mean a one who noses around is always looking for trouble?
or a one with smell for trouble has to be careful and have their eyes
open all the time?
thank you,

if our knees were bend up backwards like you say, then we wont need
any chairs to start with, because you will not be able to get up from
bed and walk to get to work and sit on the chair in the first place.
if your knees were backwards, i guess you'll spend all day in bed
moaning and screaming.
