I wasn't sure how to report this, so I'll put it here: Last night I saw a Sear's commercial for a VAX. It really turned MY head. It's a vaccum. I thought it may be an illegal use of the VAX trademark. Is it? If it is, how should it be reported? Bob

This has been discussed before. No problem. The manufacturer of the VAX vacuum cleaner (it isn't Sears) isn't in the computer business and DEC isn't in the vacuum cleaner business. -Andy | |||||

I have set this topic /NOWRITE for two reasons: first, this conference is NOT the right place to make allegations that someone is breaking the law. Second, discussion of the proper use of trademarks belongs elsewhere -- probably in the MARKETING conference, where the VAX vacuum cleaners have been discussed MANY times in the past. (Use SELECT or KP7 to add NODEMO::MARKETING to your notebook.) There is a wealth of information on the proper use of trademarks in the VTX LAW infobase. I encourage you to read the guidelines that are there. If you have questions or concerns about the use of Digital's trademarks, get in touch with your group's legal department representative, or contact the persons listed in the LAW infobase.
