6211.1 | Unknown Protocols? | CUJO::BROWN | Dave Brown | Fri Jan 06 1995 23:48 | 9 |
| The customer has done some more research and now beleives that the
Inbound Error Packet rate has to do with unknown protocols (anything
not IP) and therefore is bogus.
Is this correct?
Thanks,
Dave

6211.2 | what does it use? | NPSS::TAYLOR | | Wed Jan 11 1995 15:20 | 12 |

I suppose the question could be, how does mcc calculate the Inbound
Error Rate?

6211.3 | The PA was fixed way back in 1993. | NPSS::WADE | Network Systems Support | Thu Jan 12 1995 19:02 | 47 |
| The PA FM Use on page F-6 gives the formula which counts
ifinunknownprotos as errors. This is a bug and I remember
bringing this to the attention of Larry Grossman and getting a new
MCC_PA_FM.EXE;4 that had the following fixes -
From: TOOK::L_GROSSMAN "DTN: 226-5318" 23-AUG-1993 16:03:54.27
To: OCONNOR
CC: SCHOOL::RLEBLANC,NPSS::WADE
Subj: A new DECmcc PA image is now available:
I built a new PA that should take care of the following problems:
1) The original fix for durations that exceed 16:00:00 hours
(~ 0.9*65535 seconds).
2) Iconic Map interface not allowing the user to see more past data.
This includes the problem of not being able to graph past historical
data.
3) The UnknownProtocal counter has been removed from error statistics.
This includes:
SNMP Global entity:
Inbound error packets
Inbound error packet rate
Inbound error packet percent
Total error packets
Total error packet rate
Total error packets percent
SNMP Interface Child entity:
Inbound error packets
Inbound error packet rate
Inbound error packet percent
Total error packets
Total error packet rate
Total error packets percent
SNMP IP Child entity:
Inbound error Dgrams
Inbound error Dgrams percent
Total error Dgrams
I can't locate the image and I haven't heard back from Larry yet.

6211.5 | Problem solved | CUJO::BROWN | Dave Brown | Tue Jan 17 1995 23:42 | 11 |

We were given a pointer to a new MCC_PA_FM.EXE image by GIGAswitch
engineering. The image ident is "DECMCC V1.3-02" and the link date and
time is "24-MAR-1994 12:55:42.72"
It works great!
Thanks,
Dave

6211.6 | IfUnknownProtos Valid??? | KILROY::NSDP | | Thu Feb 23 1995 22:10 | 10 |
| Is IfUnknownProtos a valid counter in and of itself? I have a customer that is
using Xyplex 6220 Routers and these are cropping up on a few units. Sometimes
the counter can increment at 40 per minute. DECmcc help defines this as the
number of packets discarded do to an unknown or unsupported protocol. The
Xyplex unit itself has counters as viewed when connected to the router called
IP Unknown Protocols. This counter does not increment, yet SNMP IfUnknownProtos
increments quite alot.
