2.1 | Rules | SNAX::SMITH | I FEEL THE NEED | Thu Mar 27 1997 11:06 | 2 |
| I understand that there is a seperate/different rules list for subs.
Is this true, and if so, can someone publish it here.

2.2 | No separate rule doc that I'm aware of | ICARUS::tavo.ogo.dec.com::Diaz | Octavio | Thu Mar 27 1997 14:32 | 5 |
| Everyone must play under the same rules, so I doubt there is a different
document for alternates. There is however a list of alternates that gets
published once the roaster is made, but I haven't seen this year roaster yet.
You may want to contact one of the leagues committee members.

2.3 | Ok, let's open the rat hole right up | SNAX::SMITH | I FEEL THE NEED | Fri Mar 28 1997 07:30 | 11 |
| I belong to the Northboro league which plays on Wednesday's, but I'm
considering signing up as an alternate for the MGL. Current handicap
(9 hole) is 9 but I expect that will improve a couple or three points
as I just picked up the game again last fall after a 10 year lay off.
I was told that the rules state that an anternate is "expected to pay"
the regular team member the greens fees for that round if the sub
plays. In plain english, I have a problem with that, and if that's the
case, I'll pass on signing up as a sub.
Can someone clarify????

The regular team member pays $270 in advance for the greens fees and
miscellaneous (tournament prizes, end of year stuff).
An alternate pays $25 to be an alternate.
Do you expect to then play for free? All you're doing is paying the
prepaid greens fees back to the regular team member. Doesn't sound
like a bad deal to me.

2.5 | I guess it's all in the way you look at it | SNAX::SMITH | I FEEL THE NEED | Fri Mar 28 1997 09:56 | 21 |
| When I took up the game again last fall, I sub'd for the Northboro
league. I paid $15 dollars each time I played. Difference is, greens
fees aren't paid in advance. Regular members pay $15 dollars on league
nights also. So I guess I'm not against paying to play.
I look at MGL differently though because the greens fees ARE paid in
advance (a Stow requirement I'm sure). So If "I" joined that league,
I would be doing so figuring I'd be paying for a few rounds I wouldn't
be able to make.
I would also be joining a league figuring myself and my partner are
going to be serious about being competative. So, if I can't make it,
I would be seeking a sub to "help" my team. I would be seeking a sub
so that my team doesn't get a zip for the match (or at least sevearly
crushed). Just doesn't seem right to me to ask for someone's help and
then stick my hand out and say "I appreciate your helping us out and
oh by the way, pay me $15 bucks".
But like I said, I guess it's all in the way you look at it.

2.6 | right expectations | ICARUS::tavo.ogo.dec.com::Diaz | Octavio | Fri Mar 28 1997 11:37 | 3 |
| While some people may not ask for the money, if you join you should do so with
the expectation of paying if requested.

I'd say about 85% of A flight doesn't ask a sub to pay. For me,
I always try to buy the first pitcher of beer right after the
round. Kind of like it's on the guy who wasn't there. That
seems to work out pretty well, at least with the guys you're with!
I agree with Tavo in that they really do have the right to ask
you for the money. Let's just say that as a regular sub, I have
my own reasons for my bias.
No question I wouldn't be pleased to pay if it's raining. Watch
out for stiff necks and last minute meetings on those days... ;)

2.8 | schedules tee-times | PECAD8::CHILDS | Merry Christmas Oscar | Mon Apr 14 1997 13:41 | 14 |

I was under the assumption that tee-times where supposed to be as evenly as
possible distributed amoungst a division. My partner and I are in division
4 of the B flight on thursday nites. Of the available earliest tee-times for
our division we have exactly one which just so happens to be that latest tee
time that our league starts play with. Of the latest tee-times available for
our division we have 5. The absolete latest tee-time (5:16 pm) that our
division uses is schedules 4 times during the season. We have 2 of them
as does teams 3, 6 and 7 while teams 1, 2, 4 and 5 never see this time. Not
very fair in my opinion.
thanks for nothing

2.9 | how about some motivation? | ASDG::TREMBLAY | http://www.ultranet.com/~tremblay | Tue Apr 15 1997 13:31 | 5 |
| Hey Tom,
How about this deal? You lose the match, you pay. You win and you get to
buy the beer. Could bee good for a little added incentive. ;^]

| How about this?
Failure to take more than two points in a team loss, or more than one
point in a team win, the sub pays.

Tom, the greatest SUB in all of DEC, next to me of course!
Tom, it was nice to pick your pocket last year. Matter of fact
the $$ is in a plaque here in my office.
What about this?
I've been hitting about 5 buckets of balls a week now preparing
for the start of this season. I was thinking as to the
person requesting $$$ of deducting the $100 dollars of balls I hit
getting ready, can I do that? This way I'll be up $82 the first time
I play! 100-18=+82!
