checked logicals and parameters but this seem's ok.

There *must* be a message of some sort when the system starts up.

Can you have the customer watch the workstation while it boots and capture
the message that DECwindows is giving during the startup?

Do they hav the logical DECW$IGNORE_DECWINDOWS set to TRUE? Just
an idea... Also check to see if after a boot they have the
DECW$LOGICAL_NAMES table built - gives an indication if anything
	ran at all...

    I don't doubt that you've never header DECW$IGNORE_DECWINDOWS, but
you might have heard of it (or seen it) if you looked in
    DECW$STARTUP.COM.

Make sure there's not a $LOGOUT in SYSTARTUP_V5.COM. It should
finish with an $EXIT.

I got stuck on this one when I took over a system from an
incompetent system manager.

	From SYSTARTUP_V5.TEMPLATE:
$!
$! Once you have removed the comment delimiter from one of the above commands,
$! insert a comment delimiter after the dollar sign in the command line below.
$! The logical is only required if the DECnet network has not been started.
$!
$  DEFINE DECW$IGNORE_DECNET TRUE
$!
$! The following command should be used only if you do not wish the DECwindows
$! startup file to be run. The DECwindows startup file should be run on all
$! types of machines, even if they are not using a DECwindows display. If
$! you wish to run the DECwindows startup file at a later time during system
$! startup remove the comment from the line below.
$!
$! DEFINE DECW$IGNORE_DECWINDOWS TRUE
