1277.0. "NOTES and pending delete" by MU::PORTER (still life with prawn cocktail) Tue Aug 15 1989 10:57

Since upgrading to DECwindows V2 FT, it seems to me that NOTES's
pending-delete behaviour has broken inside dialogue boxes.

In the "notes:read" window: select the "notes" pull-down, then
select the "read" pull-right. From that menu, select "note-id...".

Now, a dialogue box appears. The input field is pre-set to the
current note number, highlit in reverse video. This, as far as
I know, means that the field is set up for pending-delete, and that
if I hit the DEL key then the whole field will be erased. And I'm
pretty certain that it used to work that way under DECwindows V1,
although I can't be certain I'm remembering correctly.

Now, it doesn't work like that. The initial field contents needs
to be explicitly deleted.

Is this a DECwindows V2 bug, a NOTES bug, or user error?

I'm using VMS T5.2-1, and NOTES V2.0 from a kit dated 15-Mar-1989.

My memory is that it always worked that way, and always bothered me.
I suggest taking this up in VAXNOTES_BUGS first.

I just tried under V1 of DECWindows. The expected behavior occurred.

(ie. delete key cleared the input field)

1277.3Already QAR'dGOSOX::RYANDECwindows MailTue Aug 15 1989 16:087
	I QAR'd this against the toolkit in one of the early V2 baselevels.
	It sometimes works, but mostly doesn't in Notes, and has gotten
	worse with later baselevels. It also happens in Mail, but only
	occasionally.

1277.4Works ok by me HOONOO::PESENTIJPMon Aug 21 1989 10:175
I'm using VMS V5.2 with the supplied DECwindows, and NOTES V2.0. And it all
works as you might expect.

Would someone point me to VAXNOTES_BUGS - or perhaps they already know why
NOTES on V5.2 (SSB) and DECW V2 FT - goes away whenever I try to print anything.

This is a known bug and will be fixed in the next DECwindows V2 update.

1277.85.3 and NOTES still dies, what now?JHNTHN::SARENTue Sep 05 1989 19:397
    I am now at 5.3 and NOTES still dies on print.

    Now, I have been a good little boy and submitted and submitted and
    submitted it to VAXNOTES_BUGS but apparently no-one is ever home.

    What now?

    I suggest that you submit a QAR. Developers are under no obligation to
    acknowledge a problem that has been "unofficially" reported through
    notes. If you QAR it, then the problem will more than likely be
    addressed (don't read addressed as the same thing as fixed - they
    aren't).

Boy, we've really taught people to sing this song right, haven't we?!

Keep up the good work.

1277.11Problem with NOTES startupTBLADE::GEEHANInquiring Minds Want To Know...Fri Oct 27 1989 19:1515
Has anyone seen this problem with VMS T5.3-462 (w/ DECw V2) and VAX Notes V2.0
(or X2.1a):

 X Toolkit Warning: Widget class Svn version mismatch:
   widget 7001 vs. intrinsics 11003

This occurs during Notes startup either through FileView or from a DECterm. At
first I thought it was related to the print problem, but looking through the
X2.1a Release Notes made me realize it was a different problem.
