477.0. "NH Boy Transplant - FYI" by ATPS::GREENHALGE (Mouse) Thu Mar 02 1989 09:57

There have been many Digital employees asking about what is or can be
done to assist the Nashua, New Hampshire boy who needs the transplant.

There has been a fund set up to assist Derek. Anyone wishing to
    contribute may send donations to:

    Derek Annese Transplant Fund
    c/o Bank of New Hampshire
    P.O. Box 608
    Nashua, NH 03061

Please Note: This is NOT a request for contributions. This is an FYI
    ONLY.

    Marge,

New Hampshire's Medicaid program will be picking up *most*, but
apparently not all of the cost for the transplant.

Evidently NH Medicaid is planning on picking up the tab for all but 10-15K
of the $150,000 tab. The contributions that have been received and that are
expected are supposed to more than cover the remainder of the tab.

What you say may be true of the transplant itself, however, this does
not cover the cost of the previous medical bills, future care for the
child, transportation expenses to get the child his necessary care,
    etc.

I don't know if you are aware of it or not but the transplant itself is
to take place in Wisconsin. What about care for the rest of the family
during this time? Does the whole family hop on a plane to Wisconsin?
These are just some of the questions this family has to consider.

There are at least two private sources who can arrange for
free transportation. One arranges for the use of empty
seats on aircraft belonging to the air fleets of various
companies that own an operate corporate aircraft. The other
arranges for transport by volunteer General aviation pilots.

Thanks, Tom, I wasn't aware such an organization existed.

I think it's difficult enough for a family to go through such an ordeal
but when people stop and think about everything else that's involved,
it really can make your head swim. Not even considering the financial
aspect of it, the emotional stress itself is enough.

With only a 40% chance of making it, I've been saying a lot of prayers
    for this little boy.
