I want to buy a stuffed bear or rabbit. I know lots of
places sell stuffed animals but I'm looking for a "special"
animal to be my friend when I go to a workshop in a few
weeks. I would like to shop in the Boston area but do not
want to run all over town looking for the place that sells
the right animal.
I'm looking for recommendations for brand names and places
where you have bought your special animal.
Thanks,

Joan Fortmiller, a friend who used to work for Digital, now runs a small
stuffed bear specialty business from her home in Hudson MA. It's called
the House of Bears; she can be reached at (508) 562-4849.
Although her business is mostly mail-order oriented, she will deal with
you in person if it's convenient. I've never visted her operation, but
from what I've seen of the catalog it appears to have just what you are
looking for.

When I was expecting my first baby, I bought (thru my secretary, who
dealt with Joan) a GUND Snuffles (white, too soft to describe, squishy)
bear and Larry the Lamb (adorable, large, wonderful). They both cost
just under $20.00 apiece....... I only waited a week for them, too!

Nancy,
What about trying a "Google"? It's a new type of huggable stuffed
animal that conforms to your hug! It has these two warm soft-looking
eyes, a large soft bill, and two flipper-type feet that will cover
up its eyes. The fur is a shake-out kind and can sit around with
its eyes covered looking like a big fluff ball. It also comes as
a dog shape. I got the biggest one that Unlimited Expressions in
Marlboro, MA had for $28. It is soooo much fun to look at and play
with and cuddle. It's washable and shaking it out is sooo much
fun. It's so unlike any other stuffed animal I own. It took me
several months to decide to invest that much in a new friend but I
am glad I did....it really reminds me of my long-haired cat curled
up. "Google's" are imported from Canada.
It really is hard to describe the appeal of a "Google" but once you
see one, you will know what I am trying to describe. It really is
"special"!
justme....jacqui
ps....another place to try for Gund animals at good prices is Marshall's
or TJMaxx....also, Rachell's (a children's discount store...whether
there is one other than Westboro on RTE. 9, I don't know but maybe any
of the real active mothers of this file can help out there)

worn off to reveal -- white plastic. Sigh. Now when I shop for
bears and such I look for durable noses made of leather or
heavy embroidery. My Gund Truffle-bear's leather nose is wearing
quite well.
