99.0. "Christian Songs for Children" by CNTROL::JENNISON (Get a *new* life!) Tue Apr 06 1993 18:14

I wanted to start this note last week (lest Markel think he
	was the inspiration!).

How about entering the lyrics of some good Christian songs for
	children ?

It'll serve to refresh my memory for those I knew way back when,
and to give me ideas of music to buy for those I don't.

99.1he made the stars...AYOV11::EWHITEWed Apr 07 1993 08:4124
This one usually goes down well....good actions....good words....
....and most importantly.... dead easy on the old guitar.
(not quite the "king of the jungle" but here goes....)

C F
He made the stars to shine (twinkle twinkle) [hands up and twinkling]
F C
He made the rolling seas (splish splash) [hands down and splashing]
C G
He made the mountains high (so high) [hands up together to make mountain /\]
G C
And he made me (boom-titty-boom-titty-boom) [hit/punch your chest like a baboon]
C F
And this is why I love him [cross your heart]
F C
For me he blead and died [hands wide apart]
C G
The Lord of all creation [move hands out in circular radius]
G C
Became the crucified [hands wide apart again]

     hi,

I don't have the time to type the lyrics in, but i love everything
by PATCH THE PIRATE.. (Ron Hamilton), Get a tape, they come wiht
words and they also have alot of music/music program type books you
can get. They are wonderful for kids (and adults). My personal
favorite is "Patch the Pirate goes to the Jungle", it has the songs
"Tender Heart" and "how can i fear" on it.. they are fantastic.

    Hi,

Here is a silly song my daughters Sunday School teacher taught her
    about 4 years ago.

I love Jesus better than ice cream, and ice creams
    		        pretty good..
    			Scoobie-dooobie-doo.
I love Jesus better than ice cream, and ice creams
    		        pretty good..
    			Scoobie-dooobie-doo.

and lyrics such as "Skin it sticks with me through Thick and Thin"

    :-) :-) or

I love Broccoli its such a tastey sight
    and liver makes me quiver
    in sheer delight
    I always clean my plate
    morning noon and night
    I'm thankful for each Bite
Eat 'em up, eat'me up YUM YUM

    or

    Pigs don't live in houses
and pigs don't make their beds
    pigs don't wash their faces
    they love the dirt instead

so if you're not a piglet
    clean up that messy bedroom
    and show your Christian clean!!!

God reached into His crayon box
And He put the blue in the sky.
    He made the sun yellow,
    The Grass kinda mellow,
And the trees to grow so high
(Yes, the tree to grow so high)

Ev'ry Spring you can hear birds sing
Of the beauty of God's creation.
    The animals prance,
           and jump and dance
    As they join the jubilation
    	(A Creation celebration)

God reached into His crayon box
And He put the blue in the sky.
    He made the sun yellow,
    The Grass kinda mellow,
And the trees to grow so high
(Yes, the tree to grow so high)

It doesn't look like much but it's not too shabby when all the kids
join in. I wish you could hear it.

    Markem,

Do I sing over the phone? Certainly, sir. I will sing to honor and
praise God anytime, anywhere. He is always worthy of praise, even if my
    voice is not.

And now for your listening pleasure, here's another Gil original.

    Good morning, Father.
    Good morning, Son.
    Good morning, Spirit.
It's time to have some fun.
It's time to roll out of bed,
Shake all the sleep from my head,
Time to share in the day that's begun.

    You're with me, Father,
    All through the day.
    With Your Son, Jesus
    You show me the way.
    And with Your Spirit inside,
    Always there as my guide,
I know that we'll be together come what may.

    Good evening, Father.
    Good evening, Son. (yawn)
    Good night, Spirit.
The day You made is done
It's time to crawl into bed (<-- slows down tempo)
Lay down my weary head... (<-- through this part)

Until the next day You make has begun! (<-- picks up tempo again)

Good morning, Father.... (and so on, from the beginning)

TO THE TUNE OF "PUFF THE MAGIC DRAGON"

God's love is like a circle
        A cicle big and round
And when you see a circle
        No ending can be found
And so the love of Jesus
        Goes on eternally
        Forever and forever
I know that God loves me

C'mon, guys, ya'll will make me blush - not that anyone could tell
beneath all the facial fur I carry about. :-)

Markem is too kind in his note. I'm recovering from laryngitis and
don't even have half of my singing voice back yet. (Note to MCF'ers -
yes I still whistler His praises a lot!). I probably sounded like I had
    gravel in my throat.

My vote is that Markem learns the tune and sings it for folks. I'm
told he has a very nice voice.

BTW, does anyone know if you can forward voice mail messages? I hope
    not.

    Really? How?

It would be improper to forward without permission, though. ;-)

Who said I had a nice voice? I enjoy it and attribute it to my
    Song Evangelist Grandparents.

Also, one FYI: I'm the one who is known in my church as singing all the
OLD songs with piano accompaniment (while others have recorded
renditions with various styles of music).

But I did fire up the church with Psalty's "This little light of mine!"

Advent tells us Christ is near; Yes, and Christ ascended, too,
Christmas tells us Christ is here.      To prepare a place for you;
In Epiphany we trace So we give him special praise
All the glory of his grace. After those great forty days.

Then three Sundays will prepare Then he sent the Holy Ghost
For the time of fast and prayer, On the day of Pentecost,
That with hearts made penitent, With us ever to abide:
We may keep a faithful Lent. Well may we keep Whitsuntide.

Holy Week and Easter then Last of all, we humbly sing
Tell who died and rose again: Glory to our God and King,
O that happy Easter Day! Glory to the One in Three,
"Christ is ris'n indeed," we say On the Feast of Trinity.

Lamb of God, I look to thee; Let me, above all, fulfill
Thou shalt my example be;               God my heav'nly Father's will;
Thou art gentle, meek, and mild;        Never his good Spirit grieve;
Thou wast once a little child. Only to his glory live.

Lord, I would be as thou art; Loving Jesus gentle Lamb,
Give me thine obedient heart;           In thy gracious hands I am;
Thou art pitiful and kind, Make me Saviour, what thou art,
Let me have thy loving mind. Like thyself within my heart.

I shall then show forth thy praise,
                    Serve thee all my happy days;
Then the world shall always see
Christ the holy Child in me.

I worship thee, Lord Jesus, I worship thee, Lord Jesus,
As children did of old, Who in thy love divine,
Who sang within thy temple Art hiding here thy presence
Hosannas manifold. 'Neath forms of bread and wine.

I worship thee, Lord Jesus, I worship thee, Lord Jesus,
Once slain upon the tree, And kneeling unto thee,
Now pleading at the altar As thou didst come to Mary,
Thy sacrifice for me. I pray thee come to me.

                    I worship thee, Lord Jesus,
                    My King and Saviour mild:
                    Thou hast blest other children;
                    Bless also me, thy child.

I sing a song of the saints of God,
Patient and brave and true,
Who toiled and fought and lived and died
For the Lord they loved and knew.
And one was a doctor, and one was a queen,
And one was a shepherdess on the green:
They were all of them saints of God--And I mean,
God helping, to be one too.

They loved their Lord so dear, so dear,
And his love made them strong;
And they followed the right, for Jesus' sake,
The whole of their good lives long.
And one was a soldier and one was a priest,
And one was slain by a fierce wild beast:
And there's not any reason--no, not the least--
Why I shouldn't be one too.

They lived not only in ages past,
There are hundreds of thousands still,
The world is bright with the joyous saints
Who love to do Jesus' will.
You can meet them in school, or in lanes, or at sea,
In church, or in trains, or in shops, or at tea,
For the saints of God are just folk like me,
And I mean to be one too.

I don't have the lyrical ability that some of you have, but have found
a great resource. For at least 4 years, our kids have gone to sleep to
tapes. The most popular has been the GT series - there are probably 10
of them now. They're basically Scripture memory tapes, and really well
done. There is a story involving kids and an angel named GT. They
regularly break into song, and the songs are good, original music. The
words are key verses, word for word, with the reference. You'd have to
hear them. The project was started by two frustrated parents who were
having a hard time getting their kids to sleep and getting their kids
to memorize Scripture. So, they killed two birds with one tape (sorry,
animal rights contingent). And they've made a business of it. The
tapes are available in any Christian bookstore or from a distributor.

Does anyone have the lyrics for "I'm in the Lord's Army"?

Something like...

 Shoot in the 'tillary
 Ride in the cavalry

 I'm in the Lord's army

etc

The tune's been buzzing 'round in my head all morning.

99.33The Body of ChristWROS01::SHALLOW_ROEphesians 6:10Wed Jan 26 1994 14:0151
The Lord gave me this song recently, in showing me the personality
of Jesus, when He was on earth, and His vision for the Body of Christ,
here on earth now. The musical past of this song has not yet fully been
revealed to me, other than the chorus. When the Lord gives it to me, I
will be happy to share it with all.

                              The Body of Christ

Full of the Holy Spirit and truth,
Full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom,
Full of the Holy Spirit and knowledge,
    Full to overflowing,
    Full to overflowing

Full of the knowledge of God,
Full of the compassion of God,
Full of the Righteousness of God,
    Full to overflowing
    Full to overflowing

Full of life, full of love
    Full of peace from above
Full of hope, full of grace
We will always seek your face

Full of goodness and good works,
Full of mercy and good fruits,
Full of light and faith and love,
    Full to overflowing
    Full to overflowing

Full of life, full of love
    Full of peace from above
Full of hope, full of grace
We will always seek your face

In writing this, I asked the Lord why He didn't include full of joy. He
seemed to say "Have you read of where it said Jesus smiled, or
laughed?" I only remembered where it said "Jesus wept" And so it is
today, as Jesus looks at His body, shattered into dis-unity. It is not
to remain so, as God pours out His Spirit on all mankind, and The Holy
Spirit works the wonders He does, in bringing unity to the Body of
Christ, and as we allow, He will fill us all to overflowing.

    In his Love,
    By His Grace,
    I will always,
    seek His face.

Cast your cares

I don't care, cause He cares for me,
the love of the Lord has set me free,
He's the one who said cast your cares,
so turtles can run as fast as hares

I don't care if I'm right or wrong,
I trust in Him who is oh so strong.
and if I'm wrong he'll set me straight,
so I'll end up at the pearly gate.

I don't care, cause He cares for me,
the love of the Lord has set me free,
Free that I may worship right,
and do things pleasing in his sight.

I don't care if the end is near,
cause he took away all my fear
So that perfect love may reign
and I'll be ready when He comes again

I don't care if I'm dumb or wise,
cause I'm the apple of His eyes.
He is to me the life I am
The mighty King, the precious Lamb

I don't care cause He cares more
than I ever thought I could before
I love Him cause He first loved me,
by taking care of sin on Calvery

From Cecil Frances Alexander's "Hymns for Little Children", 1848

Once in royal David's city              For he is our childhood's pattern;
Stood a lowly cattle shed,              Day by day like us he grew;
Where a mother laid her baby He was little, weak, and helpless,
In a manger for his bed:                Tears and smiles like us he knew;
Mary was that mother mild, And he feeleth for our sadness,
Jesus Christ her little child. And he shareth in our gladness.

He came down to earth from heaven And our eyes at last shall see him,
Who is God and Lord of all,             Through his own redeeming love;
And his shelter was a stable, For that child so dear and gentle
And his cradle was a stall;             Is our Lord in heav'n above;
With the poor, and mean, and lowly, And he leads his children on
Lived on earth our Saviour holy. To the place where he is gone.

And thro' all his wondrous childhood, Not in that poor lowly stable,
He would honor and obey, With the oxen standing by,
Love, and watch the lowly maiden We shall see him; but in heaven,
In whose gentle arms he lay;            Set at God's right hand on high;
Christian children all must be When like stars his children crowned,
Mild, obedient, good as he. All in white shall wait around.

The tune for the previous children's hymn is "Irby", as follows, with each
letter representing an eighth. "C" = middle C, "c" = C above middle; in
the key of F, which means Bs are B-flat by default:

CC EE FFF F FE FG GG FF FF aa ccc a aG FE GGGG
Once in roy-al Da-vid's ci-ty Stood a low-ly cat-tle shed,

CC EE FFF F FE FG GG FF FF aa ccc a aG FE GGGG
Where a mother laid her ba-by In a manger for his bed:

dd dd ccc f bb bb aaaa dd dd ccc a aG FE FFFF
Ma-ry was that mother mild, Jesus Christ her little child.

    Looking for a song:

Nathan needs to learn a song for Cub Scouts that could be
used as grace before a meal. My mind has gone blank -
any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Kids always seem to like to sing this one. (Me too.)

Oh, the Lord is good to me.
And so I thank the Lord
For giving me the things I need.
The sun and the rain and the apple seed.
The Lord is good to me!

It's sung to a catchy tune.

    Hi Day_C!

I've never heard this song and for hte life of me can't remember the
    Johnny Appleseed song. :-(

Our Intro topic is #4! Welcome!

Hi Nancy...

I don't remember where that song came from; and, because I'm pretty nearly
musically "illiterate" I can't really represent the tune here. Maybe
there's someone else here who has heard it and can. It's just a very
cheerful tune.

I guess I really ought to introduce myself.

99.42well, it isn't sheet music...CUJO::SAMPSONWed Aug 31 1994 23:0821
Okay, I'll try to figure out and communicate the tune,
if no one minds... The rhythm sorta works itself out, I think.
Anyway, here's my best try. Notes with zeros after them are
the ones below middle C.

99.44A new song!N2DEEP::SHALLOWI am just a child at heart.Tue Sep 03 1996 15:2532
This is a song The Lord gave me in the shower the other day...

                           Open their hearts Oh Lord

Open the ears of thy people Oh Lord
Open the ears of thy people all over
Open the ears so that they may hear Grace
Open the ears of thy people Oh Lord

Open the mouths of thy people Oh Lord
Open the mouths of thy people all over
Open the mouths that they may speak Grace
Open the mouths of thy people Oh Lord

Open the eyes of thy people Oh Lord
Open the eyes of thy people all over
Open the eyes that they may see Grace
Open the eyes of thy people Oh Lord

Open the hearts of thy people Oh Lord
Open the hearts of thy people all over
Open the hearts that they may know Grace
Open the hearts of thy people Oh Lord

I had a melody for it, but didn't have the guitar with me
(ZZZZZZZZTTTTTTTTT), for obvious reasons. So I've asked God
to give you whatever melody you like to go with the words.
Feel free to improvise, as you fell led. For a heavy_metal
kinda guy like me, it was mellow, and soft. It's really what
is in the words that count.
