1583.0. "Looking for a name. " by 24353::JETRGR::EATON (Dan Eaton St.Louis,MO,USA, 445-6522) Mon Feb 14 1994 12:52

A friend of mine needs some help naming a plane he's designed. It's a large bipe
that he designed with the goal of ending up with a big airplane he could take
to the field, quickly put together, and fly. Some of his previous bipes weren't
so easy to assemble and disassemble.

He'd like to call the plane the Big Easy because it's big and its both easy to
build and assemble. We don't know about the flying part being easy yet. While my
friend likes the symbolism behind Big Easy he also looking for something
different in a name. He'd like to see what Big Easy translates to in several
different languages. Can anybody help?

Thanks Joe,
I'll pass that along. Now if I could just come up with a French and Italian
translation.

    French (kinda)

    "Le Facile Grand", or maybe "La Facile Grande".

    Any self respecting frenchman will probably be barfing in his wastebin
    now, but I think it looks ok! 8^)

1583.4FRENCH CORRECTION!POLAR::SIBILLEWed Feb 16 1994 13:2412
    No it does not!

    EASY IS "FACILE" or "AISE (with an accent on the e, prononced like azay)"
     IN FRENCH BIG CAN BE " GRAND " OR "GROS" so litteral translation would be:

    "LE GROS FACILE" OR "LE GRAND FACILE" or "LE GRAND AISE" OR "LE GROS
    AISE" although it does not sound very well
    in french "LE GRAND AISE" would probably be the closest to the english
    if you want to keep the same meaning.

Thank Nigel for the attempt.

Thanks Jacques for the correction. This gentman's origianl request was for a
French translation. I think he might go for LE GRAND FACILE.
I'll let you know.

Anybody know Swaheli (sp?)?
1583.6Yeah, well, ummm.....BAHTAT::EATON_NPersonal Name Removed to Save CostsThu Feb 17 1994 08:0114

    Knew it. Knew it!

    Sorry for the mutilation of the french language, but I couldn't resist
    the provocation!  8^)

    By the way, a Welsh friend of mine offers "Y Papsi Mawr", this
    apparently relies on some Neath slang, so may not be acceptable to true
    Welshmen!

    Cheers

1583.7big easy: italian, french, spanishFRUST::HERMANNSiempre ChvereThu Feb 17 1994 08:4319
the big easy,

in italien a straight translation would be:

Simplicemente Grande, but this would not be used, better:

Accidenti - this brings up some other associations......

my french translation would have been:

Simplement Grand

and to throw in my spanish also:

Simplemente Grande (see the similarity between the roman languages...)
or: Enorme, or: Gigante.

have fun,
joe t.
1583.8I think he's settled on "LE GRAND AISE"24353::JETRGR::EATONDan Eaton St.Louis,MO,USA, 445-6522Thu Feb 17 1994 12:529
I talked to my friend last night. He really liked Jacques' translation of
"LE GRAND AISE". I'll pass along the translations from Nigel's Welsh friend
and Joe T.'s translations but I think at this point the big bird's going to
be known as "LE GRAND AISE".. My friend was amazed at the way I came up with the
translations for him and asked that I pass his thanks along to everyone who
helped.
