This is the first in a series of reports on the World F3B championships in
Israel.
The practice round, round 0, was held sunday, according to team member Randy
Spencer's wife. This unofficial round was won by US team member Daryl
Perkins. Competition should be starting the time this is posted.
I will add updates of results as they are available to me. If anyone hears
any news, please upload it!

I have just received some unofficial results from Carolyn Jolly, wife of Larry
Jolly, team member.
The organizers ran a practice round, which doesn't count in the final results,
to train their officials and familiarize contestants with the contest
procedures. The practice round results were: Perkins 1, Wurts 3, Jolly 6, and
Spencer 7.
Round 1 unofficial (approximate) results are: Wurts approx. 6th; Perkins
approx. 10th; Spencer approx. 14th. Jolly "cut" a speed run (missed the turn
command), resulting in a 2700 pt round, which would be his throwout round if
he scores better on all others. (The worlds are scored less the lowest round
total, so there is some margin for error.)
Apparently some other contestants had some serious problems: Liese of Germany
had a midair with a Belgian pilot, destroying both planes (their number one
ships, presumably), and one of the Kowalski brothers (Germany) lost a model in
speed. No other information available.
Partial round 2 results: the distance task was flown Monday, and Wurts,
Perkins, and Spencer all were beaten by 1 length of the course. This would
normally result in an approx. 950 score out of 1,000. Jolly tied for best in
his round, yielding 1000.
More as it comes in!!!

F3B World Championships Update -- More News From Israel
==============================
During the second round, Daryl Perkins of USA set a new F3B Speed Record of
16.1 seconds, an average straight-line speed of 83.34 MPH! Later in the
round, 1989 World Champion Nic Wright surpassed Daryl's record with a
scorching 15.8 second run, or an average of 84.93 MPH!
The U.S. Team had the highest second round total by a large margin, with
Perkins 1st in the round, Jolly 6th, Spencer 14th, and Wurts 15th. (Great
Britain won the first round).
Already two tasks in the third round have been flown. Details are sketchy,
but Wurts had the fast speed time for the round.
That's all for now. Stay tuned for further developments. (Thanks to Carolyn
Jolly for this news.)

This news from Carolyn Jolly:
All four U.S. Flyers are in the top fifteen, perhaps the top ten. The U.S.
and German Teams are very nearly tied for first and second in the team
standings.
Reinhard Liese of Germany broke yesterday's record with an incredible 15.6
second speed run (this works out to an average 86 MPH, not including turns!)
No more details at this time.
Glad you all find this useful reading! I will try to get more numerical
results, for those of you who asked. Carolyn said she'd have numerical
results tomorrow morning.
