YO gang, Im now alive & well and kicking in France. The relo (finally) happened at the end of January. I now work out of the EVRY office (for the moment). I got the ANTHEM shipped. The rest should follow at the end of March. I have a place to stay, phone, car etc. I'm now looking fro a club and trying generally to link up wi the glider community here in France. There is a glider association name EOLE (name of the greek wind god, in French) that functions a lot like the US LSF. I got a contact to follow-up on. I am now looking to get my hands on some radio gear that will do the job for the ANTHEM. For you glider fans out there - I haev a request from Judy Slates @ RCSD to send her article recounting my tribulations and discoveries. I'm looking forward to this. Keep in touch marc

Welcome back, Marc. We look forward to hearing about your experiences in here and in RCSD. It's always good to see names you recognize in print. I know there's a few of us in the Acton group that would be interested in some observations on the Anthem as well.

Marc, Welcome back! Glad to see your getting into gliders, I remember reading an old note where you were interested was in ducted fans. Did you ever pursue this? I have read that aerotowing(F3I) scale like gliders is quite popular in France. Please let us know what the gliding scene is like in France. Regards, Jim
1494.3 | I switched - | COWBOY::DUFRESNE | Fri Feb 26 1993 11:32 | 26
I pretty switched to gliders only over the past couple of years. One reason was simplicity. Not having an engine was one less variable to deal with while trying to gain flying competency. The other was that glider behaviour was closer to my temperament. And the whole tyhing appealed to my "environmental/aging hippie" cultural bias. I also have a Pulsar and an ORCA to complete. I'd hope to get back to ducted fans in the future - when I'm satisfied I can fly well (and fast) enough. F3I appears to be quite popular here indeed. Min glider size for the event is 3.5m. Towing plane has a altimeter built-in the cuts power at 200 m, which is the max launch height. No zoom launch on this event. My first impression is that here, big gliders are favored and that the Germans build the best one. re the Anthem - I bought the last obechi pre-sheeted kit. Still in its box. (no workshop yet). First impressions are that its basically an LOVESONG with an SD7037 airfoil. with minor updates on control surfaces. Will keep u posted. md |
