1473.0. "Charge Tx and Rx from 12 volt?" by CSC32::HAGERTY (Veni, Vedi, $Cmkrnli, Rebooti) Mon Nov 16 1992 08:07

I am planning to do some flying in the desert next spring. I will
not be near a power outlet, and I am looking for some way to charge
my Tx and Rx batteries. Are there any commercially available (or for
that matter, just a schematic) chargers that work on 12 volt?

1473.1Quick chargers or diyLEDS::KLINGENBERGMon Nov 16 1992 09:2516
Quick chargers are designed to work off a 12 V car battery. I guess you
have 8 cells in your TX, unfortunately this already puts you in the
higher priced group (they need a DC/DC converter to charge more than 7
cells out of 12 V, that's why). There is plenty of discussion on
various models (and price categories) in here. If you don't want to
take a chance of ruining your batteries, you might be in for quite an
    expense... Start saving.

Some people here at DECRCM have a charger built in their car. Charlie,
wasn't that a design of yours? Are schematics or even complete units
    available?

Can someone point to appropriate note numbers, please?

    Best regards,
                  Hartmut

If you talking about charging your standard 9.6 volt TX battery and
4.8 volt RX battery, there are at least a couple of units available.
I have one I got for Christman last year. It's made by Litco. They
advertise in RCM. It was $60 or $70 dollars. It quick charges your TX
and RX packs from your car battery. A completely flat pack will
recharge in 30 minutes. Typical recharge time is 15 to 20 minutes.
ACE RC also makes a similar unit. Not sure of the price but it's about
the same. I'm happy with mine and don't know how I got along without
    it.

I use the Hitec Multi Charge-a-Matic. Love it! I can charge the Tx and
Rx in about 15 minutes each right off the car battery or any other 12
volt source. It will also cycle and give you visual display of the your
    battery's efficency in %. Charges 4-10 cells (4.8-12volts) 270-1800mah.
Auto cut-off with trickle and plays chimes to let you know its done.
Picked it up for $69.00. See page 24 of December issue of RCM for
    details.
