    Hi Jacques, must be nice of your wife to buy you airplane kits for Xmas,
    most people get socks or ties. The only thing I can offer is the use
    of a workbench (and facilities) to build your kit on. I'm still working
    on Brendalee to get me a telemaster though.

    See you next week, Keith

1383.2use pinking shears to cut your balsa.POLAR::WHITTALLThu Nov 21 1991 21:387
    Boy, are you ever a spoiled, rotten kid- a plane and motor for xmas ! I
    have to work overtime and save just to buy a new propeller.However I
    would suggest using flour and water for glue,kleenex for a covering and
    water paints for colouring (unless your wife lets you use your crayons.
    (food colouring works too but Mom wont let me use it by myself.
    All kidding aside, if I do know of someone who's built this kit, from
    my club, I'll get some pointers from them.
1383.3Finally started buildingPOLAR::SIBILLEFri Mar 26 1993 11:5522
    I finally cleared most of my other rpoject to start building the Cobra.
    At first glance I realised that this is not a project for beginers. Two
    sheet plans showing side view of the body and top view of the wings.
    Thats it. At the bottom of the plans there is a step by step assembly
    expanation, comprising of a dozen drawing with the airplane at
    different stage. Not to much explanation there. If you never build a
    kit before don't try this one.

    	I whas equally deceived by the quality of the parts. The body sides
    are awful. They don't match the plans and look like they where cut on a
    band saw in 2 second. All the wing spars are bend one way and will have
    to be straighten out before I can use them.

    	Other wise the kit seems complete with the hardware for the wheels
    and all. All the plastic parts are well molded. The plane look like a
    heavy design. The sides are made of thick balsa and the engine mount is
    two one foot long piece of hard wood. The elevator is made of one piece
    1/4" balsa. I whas tempted to redesign it but decided to build the
    airplane as is.

    I will keep you posted of my progress.

1383.4More on constructionPOLAR::SIBILLEWed Mar 31 1993 13:2622

    Hi again,

    The wings are now 80% completed. In doing them I found the first
    missing part of the kit. The instructions calls for two wing attachment
    block made of hard wood. They where both missing from the kit and I had
    to make them out of an old piece of oak I had. Beside that It went very
    well. Parts where well cut for the wings and did not need a lot of
    adjusting. Be sure you figure out all the parts that you need before
    starting because there is no list.

    The body is still in two alfs. I found that so far the body is very
    heavy and I wonder how much this kit is going to weight when finish. It
    seem small enough for a size .40 engine but the wing area/weight ratio
    suggest that you should not try it with anything smaller then a .60
    I expect this model to be quit fast and I'm not sure I'm really
    preapred enough to fly it yet.

    Regards

    Jacques
