Anybody ever built, flown or seen flown an ACE All Star Bipe??? Curious to hear from any of you with any experience with the plane. Thanks, Will

1330.1 | A little Bipe goes a long way | GRANPA::MLANHAM | Mon Jul 15 1991 13:36 | 12
I have built two of the little, foam winged .15 size bipes. I had no luck at all with conventional takeoffs but had a lot of fun hand launching them. They were very twitchy little bipes and one had to be careful to toss it exactly into a headwind in order to get airborn. Easy kit to build since the wings are foam. I did put ailerons on the bottom wing and it was a real pure pleasure to fly after that. Mike L.

Thanks for the reply Mike. What size engine did you use and what kind of performance resulted. Did you have adequate power for loops without diving to gain airspeed? What was the deadstick glide like? Thanks, Will

I always used the O.S. 15s for power. I did dive for decent loops unless there was a decent breeze which I would head into and use the wind for assistance. The deadstick glide was always panic time because these little puppies need some half decent airspeed in order to come in with control. No matter how sweet my landings were the wire main landing gear managed to always mangle. Mike L. |
